Ayumi Hamasaki
I was listening to her music, I think she's very interesting and different. I've read on many sites that she's the "Queen of J-pop"...is this so? Are there any fans of her music here...? How did you first hear her music?

Hello. :D
I've also always wondered. Is she really popular in Japan?? Like, Brittany Spears popular (but in a non-slutty way). Well as for me, I first heard her songs from the anime Inuyasha, she has a couple of songs played on the endings. So one day, I was on this site, and I saw that someone had requested the song EVOLUTION, so I figured, if someone out there is requesting it, it should be good. So I uploaded the one from the request. Turns out I really really liked it!! So I decided to get more and more of her songs. And now I guess you can call me a fan? lol.

The queen of j-pop debate will always be there between utada hikaru and ayumi hamasucky i mean hamasaki.
queen of j-pop? maybe.. but i'll be damned if people were to label either of them "queen" of japanese r&b or anywhere near that genre..

I think she more popular outside of Japan for examble even I know many guys who likes Ayu's music including me. For me she is the queen of the J pop.
EVOLUTION is my all time favorite song and the only Song that I know from her.

Utada doesn't even come close in terms of record sells. Time Article - Ayumi Hamasaki
I first heard about her when I found a website with thousands of her old pics (when she still looked japanese). I never payed much attention, until I saw her Concert Tour 2000 DVD. I was hooked (on the Vogue performance).

doesnt everyone know that?
its pretty lame to compare talent with record sales numbers anyway imo.
I can say that I really like a song from her now...I really like "Born To be"..it's very anthem-sounding...and loud (but in a cool way). In all honesty, I don't care about the record sales...I care for the lyrics, the beat, and the voice...I think Ayumi is good..( as far as I've listened to her music)...but I'm tied between Utada and Ayumi...and their songs..specifically Ayu's "Born to be" and Utada's "Travelling".
Well, selling more doesn't always mean they're better ^^;
Comparing Utada and Ayumi, I'll definately choose Utada. I own... 2 albums of Ayumi and I like the song "Moments". But Ayu has that typical high pitched voice like most japanese singers nowadays do ><; (I don't like them), listening to her for a long period is just annoying and makes my ears hurt X__X But I still think she's an okay singer >_>;

OMG same here! But before evolution, there was seasons cafe remix |D I love that song. I absolutly love her songs they're so catchy, and the sounds are deep. I like the beats and the instuments choosen. (My story:synphonic version) X#D
But right now my Ayum Hamasaki song of the month is 'Beautiful Fighters' Last month it was Startin' , and the month before it was Rainy Day^.^ My Number one favorite song though; has to be Naturally. I always listened to it when I was looking up info on the 4th Inuyasha movie, and the song with the poster just made me even more excited about it's release!
I have an Ayumi Hamasaki song for almost every occasion coming up for me. For Graduation it's Beautiful Fighters and Blue Bird To me Ayumi Hamasaki IS The Queen of J-Pop. But I do agree that Utada Hikaru is coming up close behind her.
Well i only have one song off her, and thats No More Words.
I don't even remember how I got it.
If anyone has any suggestions what other songs I should get off her, reply to me kk!
Thanks guys!

She's too overrated. There's only a few songs out of all her list of songs that I actually like. She's okay, but I much prefer some of the other lesser known female singers like Yuki Kimura.
I love Ayumi Hamasaki's Music. I recently got her album "(miss)understood" Its really a cool album! Not so long ago I became a fan of hers... But If I had to choose between Ayumi and Utada, I'd choose Utada. Utada has a lot of passion when she sings.
