anime it's for adult or kids?
When people askes me what's my hobby i tell them that i like anime they tease me and say that
it's for kids.... i know it's not true but how can i tell them that anime can be for adult or teen to...
it's so annoying cause anime is cartoon and i can defend it.
what do you think how can i explain them?!

I know how you fell, but the funniest part of all of this is that you can't explain anything from anime to people that never have seen anime, maybe they think that anime is just for kids because they think that its like the cartoons from US.
I'd say that some anime's are for kids and some are for adults.
Anime is totally different from cartoons the only thing they have in common is that both are drawn. Maybe if you tell them there are more adult stuff in it like violence and junk they might understand.

Anime: animated film or series, that has a variety of storylines and Action sequences for all Age groups, not only for kids. There are Animes for every kind of person and genre...
Cartoon: An animated show which the majority of the foreign countries understand as .... Kids' Stuff!! And because of that most Anime that become licensed will always be treated as such Kid Stuff...

It is for both. Anime is a medium all its own. Thats like asking, "Movies: For kids or adults?"
There are genres: Children, Sci Fi, Action, Romance, Gay/Lesbian, Ponographic, ect.
So, it is for both. :)

There are several genres in animes
Anime is like movies, there are movies for kids and movies for adults. But the important part here is: do you really care what they think about anime?. Personally I don't give a damn they think it's for kids. If you want to make them realize that anime is not just for kids, try explaining to them that since anime is made in Japan, they don't have the same estereotypes that we do. Hence there are anime for adults and anime for kids. Anime in Japan is like TV series [Friends, 70's show, etc] in the USA. Besides, american's have cartoon for adults too, like The Simpons, Family Guy, American Dad, Ren & Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead, Daria. If they still think anime is for kids, then it's probably not worth the effort of tryong to convince them otherwise.

You know what I think is really funny... They show anime on adultswim, then people tell you its for kids... Maybe some are, like Yu-Gi-Oh (Dont worry I have nothing against yu-gi-oh) and you can tell they're mainly aimed at kids because they show it on Cartoon Network, which is aimed at kids. But when people think anime the first thing that comes to mind is DBZ or Yu-Gi-Oh... Because thats all they know of. If you asked them about Blood + or Chiobits was, they'd be like what are you talking about you freak? Some people are just really small-minded...

Depends on the series you're talking about. It's just like american television, there are shows for kids and shows for adults. Though, overall, I'd say there are more adult and teen anime shows than shows for children.

Many people think that Anime is kid stuff But think Anime is for us as we gro up to be Adult's.
Tell them to see Elfen Lied, and see if they still say the same thing.
Genshiken on 1 or 2 chapter said something about why some people can't like anime...something about don't have enough creativity ..XDDD (so that mean that anime fans have more creativity that people that dislike it (i love myself))
i don't think theres a way to explain ignorant people why you like anime...
if they think anime is for kids all i can think is . show then some hentai , gantz or berserk (bloody ones more or less) elfen lied could work too since that one is short , tenjo tenge also have some blood on it...XDD
well and for those angry-mothers who think anime isn't for kids watch Girls bravo , Dears ,FLCL , D.n.angel or Mahou Sensei Negima (nothing angaist this ones i like then but they don't have any blood at all so thats why they are "for kids" XDD )

There are mature animes for adults, and light-hearted animes. And as some had mentioned, anime caters to all. It's not restricted in one age group only. Take Monster, Berserk and Elfen Lied for example. These are the adult animes that 7-year old kids won't really appreciate but most adult would enjoy watching because of its depth and mystery. Well, hentai is obviously for the adult.
