Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

Well, a lot of people may think that the average price of $29.99 is a lot, but think of it this way. In Japan, a single DVD for an anime title, with only TWO episodes on it, can cost you $40-$50. Here in the US, we get an average of 4 eps per DVD, and generally at least TWO viewing options, dubbed or subbed. I don't think we're paying too much at all when you think of it in relation. Now, you DO have your options though. A DVD that is regularly $29.99 CAN be found cheaper if you shop around, sometimes as low as 40% (though you probably won't find it for below cost, obviously they are sold to make a profit).

I think buying the individual volumes on DVD would cost way too much...

So what I do is wait for the complete collections/thinpaks to come out ne~~
They're a lot cheaper and you get the whole series at once^^

Of course sometimes you may lose the special features that would come with the individual DVDs (if your buying one of ADV FIlms thinpaks that is, cuz Bandai gives you all the original features) but I don't think that's too much of a loss...

The other catch is that you just have to be patient...the full series collection usually takes 1-2 years after the final volume DVD has been released, to come out >.>

Whenever I want to buy a an anime DVD, I always want to allocate $22.00 per DVD, since I usually buy from Suncoast the volumes I want. I usually get my funds from allowances, and redeeming recyclable goods. I think the price for those DVDs are reasonable, because of the time it took to get everything the way the comapany wants them to be, times mass producing them.

All in all, I think the current price for Anime DVDs are reasonable, but I suppose bootlegs are cheaper. I personally don't support buying those, though, but I digress. Again, $22.00 per DVD ($19.99 plus taxes). It's a cardinal rule I use when heading to Suncoast.

Well a dvd in portugal is about 20€ (a bit more than 20$US)... I don't think this is cheap because the lifestyle here in portugal is lower than in the UK and most cds and dvds cost the same as there...
Some times I have to go to Spain to buy a dvd for a lower price (anime dvds in Spain are abou 14€)

I don't think that Anime DVDs here in America are too much. Now with series such as FLCL, that only have 2 episodes per disc, then I think that $29.99 is expensive. But as has been said, for $29.99 and 4-5 episodes including special features, then I think that's an acceptable asking price. Some of the complete collections lately, have been devoid of special features, so I get them individually. If they've got an artbox, I pick that one up. If you go to places like DeepDiscountDVD.com, you can get discs for a very reasonable amount. Especially if they've been out for a little while.

I'm working on getting Initial D, and instead of paying $20 per disc, you pay $12 per disc there. You just have to shop around for the good bargains. :)

As mentioned by other members, $30 in the U.S. for anime DVD's is alot cheaper than it is for the Japanese originals which go for $40-60 each. But then again, it depends on what you get when buying anime discs. Most domestic DVD's have 4-5 epsodes each discs, so $20-30 is reasonable compaired to Japanese discs that usually only have 2 episodes (three on the outside). Maybe production costs are higher in Japan than in the U.S. which might account for the extremely high prices.

If you love that series, the price does NOT matter.

i have the bootlegs, the fansubs AND the official Love Hina DVDs, movies and the OVA.

...

Even though the OVA isn't worth it... -_-;;

Since I'm from Greece and anime is sth very far to us I buy from the Internet. And what i have to say is this.
That Amazon and other internet stores doesn't worth it. I prefer Animecollector.com. The prices are good and the shipping also. That is if you like your anime subbed!
I believe that 20 euros or 20$ for a DVD volume are too much. And that is because think about how much you pay for a movie DVD and how much for an anime Volume!
Do you see the difference?

New movies can cost $20 and we get around the same thing as that so the price isn't to bad.
