I love anime, and most of the anime that have been dubbed over the years have been of high quality. However there are a couple of titles that I would like redubbed because of the mediocre or poor quality of the original dubs.

1. Karin (Chibi Vampire)-This was really a cute anime series,however the dubbing was mediocre at best, I would like to see this title redubbed to bring out the true quality of the show.

2. Crest of the Stars- This anime had a great story and characters, but marred by horrible voice acting. This is another title that deserves a once over to get the top-knotch dubbing it truly deserves.

Naruto - When I saw it was dubbed it was quite a shock, maybe it was just the channel I was watching but there was NO blood, none whatsoever and the voices didn't match up at all

Dragonball Z, Sailormoon, Initial D are the big ones for me

Both Crest/Banner of the Stars because of the terrible voice acting. I loved the story from these but the voices kind of ruined it. Stick with the subbed version or your ears will bleed.

Rozen Maiden. Where's the DESU DESU DESU DESU DESU spam? :(

To be honest I am not impressed with the Death Note dub.

Onegai Teacher - When Kei consistently refers to his wife, Ms. Kazami as "mam" something is wrong. That and Maho's voice wants you to burn your own years out. Oh don't forget Mizuho speaks in that horribly monotone voice.

D.N. Angel - Not that the dubbing can save this terrible anime to begin with but the Dub was just flat out AWFUL.

Sister Princess - Now I can understand why it's hard to et good dubbing on this one since there's around 15 main characters, but they didn't nail ONE good voice. Fanboy over Greg Aries all you want, he's not that good a voice actor and hearing him do Yamata made me want to cut my ears off under a paper slicer.

DeathNote - Yeah they uh could have done better casting calls for it really. The voices sometimes just don't match right and makes the dub awkward to watch.

Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat - Refering to what I said in D.N. Angel, although the anime will always suck, the ENTIRE sub and dub need to be redone. The dub was like going out back and having a sniper blow your ears off only to pee on them and burn them alive and finally nuke the area with it's surroundings to make sure you couldn't hear any more. The sub was not even that much better as it sounded like they pulled every 30+ years tobacco user who had a hole in their throat try to speak in Japanese.

I find this question kind of pointless. Please by no means do I mean to offend anyone but this question is heavily opinion based. For every person that says "This was done horribly done" there will be a person that says "This was excellently made". Plus take into consideration that sometimes due to translation differences of the languages, there is no choice but to change dialogue. And I don't mean cultural jokes either. For example:

You know what the term/word "desu" in Japanese means right? Desu (pronounced "des") is a subject marker that is used constantly in Japanese sentances, especially when establishing a subject. It makes very little sense (or is too difficult) to include a word or the meaning of a word that has no use in another language. I know that it was meant to be a joke in the original Japanese, but it doesn't really work in English. Now they could have kept the word "desu " but at the risk of alienating audience members that know little to nothing of the language. It would come off as the show was meant only for the real hard-core fan by keeping such a term with no explaination as to what it means or how it is used.

Not many people know (or choose to acknowledge) this fact but the English voice of Naruto was hand picked by the Japanese staff. They wanted that voice to be Naruto's in English. So in a way you can blame the Japanese for the voice selection. Oh and the "no blood" bit was probably because it was aired on network television which is forced to abide by broadcast restrictions.

I'll agree that some of the before listed anime could have been dubbed better (half the cast of Crest of the Stars had little experience in voice acting) but for those that just complain without thinking why changes occurred really take the fun out of discussing. Oh before I forget "Karin" was dubbed in Singapore, I believe, so that would explain why the dubbing seems so "off".

True, however there is usually a majority rule over particular dubs thus saving the topic from being watered down. The topic title does make the thread a listing but with some tweaking and such it could surely pass off the next time around.

The Naruto dub I thought was done fairly well. Yet I agree that Naruto's voice is painful to listen to over and over...and over...and over again. It's almost necessary to take some Tylenol or Advil before watching. However, the same goes with the Japanese voicing which is equally, if not more, irritating. Basically, they both balance out. It's not so much the dubbing but the character being fitted. Naruto is just that type which needs a voice like that. If you want change then his personality needs to be tweaked to be less...explosively annoying.

Keitaro's voice in Love Hina was also particularly vexing to bear through. They could have picked a better one with a lower pitch yet still capture the upbeat hopelessness.

At first I had a problem with the voice of Shinji from Evangelion but after a while I found that it fit in well enough to grasp the entirety of the character's mental and emotional states. So that became a pass for me. I'd readily watch the new Eva movies if they recast the original actors for the dub.

Haruhi Suzumiya. The only anime I strictly watch subbed. Mikuru and Yuki are good but Kyon, Itsuki, and Haruhi were all wrong. Kyon sounds too old and there's special emphasis on Itsuki and Haruhi's voices. Bosch is more suited towards characters like Ichigo (brazen and act uncaringly cool) or Renton (which was a suprise) but not Itsuki whose light-heartedly philosophical. Wendee Lee is a great voice actor and fairly flexible with her ranges. She's done tough girls like Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop), Kiyone Makibi (Tenchi), Suzuka (Outlaw Star), Tatsuki (Bleach) as well kind-hearted ladies like Fuyutsuki (GTO). But for Haruhi, I'm sorry but it's out of her league. I'm positive that if they expanded their search they could have nailed Haruhi's voice down.

DNAngel is a toss up for me. I liked Risa. Riku was...here and there like Daisuke. Mio and Towa were perfect.

On the opposite scale, the best voice matchup is Yukino Miyazawa from Kare Kano. Absolutely on the dot. Fitting to the core. She sounded familiar and it wasn't a suprise she voiced Ash's mom in Pokemon but it was a major shocker that she voiced Ash as well!

Agreed, in the end it is a matter of opinion. But I find your inputs interesting. I watched the dub for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and I rather enjoyed it. However, I can see why 'mcz928' might find Crispin Freeman's part as Kyon was out of place because he sounded older than he should have. I thought this at first, but as I continued to watch, I liked Freeman in the way he reacted to what happened during the course of the show. Wendee Lee is one of my favorite voice actresses, and I personally thought she pulled of Haruhi's role very well. She comes off abrasive, but then again that's Haruhi Suzumiya's character, brash and impulsive. Again, it's a matter of opinion, but I look at this way. With dubbing, like anything else, if you're going to do it, try and do it right.

They could append a "right?" or ",it is." to the ends of her sentences. You know what? Nevermind, that'll be weird. I can't see her doing Yoda speak either.

Another 2 I'd like to see redubbed: Negima and Elfen Lied. I hated both when they popped up on Funimation and my downloads, respectively.

Heck no I thought her voice was horrible. In fact that's probably an anime that needs redubbing, or just re-doing in general. An anime that has the best dub is probably El Hazard. It's kinda hard to say no to that when the original makers of the show said the American casting of the voices was superior to the sub casting they did.

Personally, I liked the Suzumiya Haruhi dub. I guess the voices do grow on you after a while, like Kyon's. Eventually you get used to it, and now I simply can't imagine anyone else besides Crispin Freeman doing Kyon in English; it's pretty spot-on, actually, and Kyon does act older than his age sometimes anyway, especially with his sarcastic comments. At least they kept those, and managed to dub them well.

And I might just be a bit biased towards him because he did an excellent job with Haji in Blood+...yes, I know Haji is older than Kyon, but yeah.

As for animes that need redubbing...well, there are animes I've seen on Animax that have been dubbed in English by people who seriously need lessons from the pros, like Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Jigoku Shoujo and Black Jack. Seriously, Enma Ai (JS), Pinoko (BJ) and Sakura's (TRC) voices are done by the same person who doesn't even bother to change her (or his; who knows, it might actually be a guy XDDDDD Heh.) voice to suit each character better. They're all different. *sigh* Plus, Fai sounded like...Kermit the Frog. I mean, in the Animax dub.

But Tsubasa and Jigoku Shoujo have been licensed by Funimation in the US, and I don't know too much about whether Black Jack has been dubbed by an American company. I wish Animax could just import the foreign dubs instead, because they sound much better. I've seen the trailer of Jigoku Shoujo on the Funi website and watched a few Tsubasa episodes dubbed in English; Funimation beats the Animax dubs any day. Or maybe that's just because the former is American, but what the heck.

And I'm glad they decided to redub (or at least, continue dubbing) One Piece. I've heard much better feedback for the Funi dub than the 4Kids dub.

Nami was voiced well by both actors (Kerry Williams then Luci Christian- who also voiced Ringo in Air Gear). I was suprised they did the change but it was a good switch though I tend to resist change halfway through since you get so used to one voice and hearing another feels odd.

Sakura's voice in TRC is done by Monica Rial who also did Towa (DNAngel), Simca (Air Gear), Misuzu (Air), Kirika (Noir), and Lumiere (Kiddy Grade)...among a multitude of others. I liked her acting as Towa and Misuzu, never thought she was Kirika and Lumiere which just shows her range though her sound is still distinct, and was mixed with Simca. It was disappointing that she was Sakura's voice in TRC. I was hoping they would have brought Carly McKillip (who was the voice in Cardcaptors) to do it but alas they didn't. After a while you sort of get used to it but still she doesn't fit Sakura at all.

And that brings me to another anime that needs to be redubbed...badly...Chrono Crusade. Hilary Haag as Rosette... ...They should have chosen Colleen Clinkenbeard who voiced Esther in Trinity Blood, even though she's more softer sounding atleast her voice is that more suited.

I hate to break this to some people (not all) but even in the Japanese audio there are voices that sound older/younger than they should be. For example in the Japanese version of Hikaru no Go, the Character Kurabawa sensei sounded like he was in his 30's and yet the character is supposed to be this aging gentleman of 60-70. It was horrible to hear a voice so young from a character so old. And yet nobody complains about when the Japanese mess up. My only guess to that, is people aren't skilled enough to decipher age and tone of voice in foreign languages. The English dub did a better job of fitting the character with his age.

Here's another one. The producers of Outlaw Star thought that the English dub was of superior quality than their own version. Kinda cool huh?
