Cyberisation
Cyberisation is a very real prospect. Some people unfortunatly require mechanical limbs due to loss of their own or for any number of reasons, and the ability of mechanical body parts is constantly being improved. In the future there are likely to be more and more of these available.
This brings to mind the discussion of cyberisation. My discussion was somewhat inspired my ghost in the shell. I know that some areas like brain cyberisation are still far off but would anyone consider cyberisation?
Many of you I would imagine would be infulenced against it by personal beliefs and religion etc, some of you may welcome the Idea of a mechanical body.
So say weither or not you would and why!
I'll give my opinion later ^_^

It would have to be pretty advanced and proven safe. i want to be able to still look human but ya, i think i would. there are so many things you could do that you can't in a regular body. my fear would be losing too much sensation, i know i would probably have sensors and i would see the world in a completely different way but it wouldn't be worth it if i had to give up being close to those i love. i would definitely have to see what the pro's and con's are first. of course, if i had some sort of jet pack then maybe it would all be worth it ;P
I would only do it for a loss limb or arm. Never just to be super human or something. This is making me think of robocop.
I would like to be a cyborg to be able to live it eternally is all!
I don't want weapons, nor of super power but just the eternal life to be able to benefit from the life as much as possible and to decide of when I die.
but it will be when last recourse naturally! ^_^

It would depends of the benefits and losses. If it were safe, would allow me to live longer and relatively normally, then yes. Flesh or metal, it would be the same.

If I had my way I'd duplicate the automail from fullmetal alchemist into an aluminum substance cause it's one of the lightest moldable metals... plus there's this guy named kevin warwick that developed a chip that responds to the electircial pulses that your brain sends to the muscles that make your arms or legs move...
he implanted the chip into his own shoulder and attached the receptor (the thing that recieves the compand from the chip) into a mechinised arm and when his arm moved the the fake arm moved along with it.
I think if I had to have a fake limb or two I'd want something like that...

I say bring it on. I will go full cyber. because if it is like ghost in the shell you can almost be imortal. That and obtaining information will be easyer because it can be like the matrix. also it will be cool as hell!!!!
yeah
yeah
Cyberisation is cool, I like the idea of replacing one of the eyes with a artificial one that have zoom and night vision. Although I doubt something like that ever will be reality.
If it would give me far superior human abilities, stamina, and strength, why not? I need that to really practice Parkour, as a sport, instead of just several floors, if I can jump like 10 or so, with these advanced cyberization on my body, advanced pieces of limbs, why not? Plus, I would not worry too much if it was a cyborg body, for me, the most important is not the sport of health, more like, the fun which involves, i would not worry about having broken limbs either since it is regeneratable, endlessly repairable, and so on. Why not?
as some of you may know, the practice of parkour involves jumping off ledges and windows and walls, so it involves some amount of risks to really practice it, hence I would settle for some of that, the thing is that I need it, at the very least I can prevent injury from using robo limbs.

For me, no way! Of course as a few have already mentioned, I would be "comfortable" with mechanical limbs if say i lost a limb or something. But i wouldnt replace parts (or whole) of my body with cybernetic parts if i were completely normal, even if there may be benefits like extra strength and so on.
I think I would rather stick with my bone and flesh body, unless I lost a limb or two like the person above said. Personally I think there will always be problems with cyber part no matter how advance the technology is, and I would feel much more comfortable in my own body instead of mechine parts. Well that's just me I guess...
I'm not too sure about going full cyborg, but I'm all game for getting fully wired in. It's the 'connected; aspect, rather than the uber artificial body, that holds the most appeal for me. The prospect of being always connected, with the ability to access any data at any time, that's really exciting. It'll also let me do a lot of other things besides sit in front of the computer - remember how Motoko was actually chatting in cyberspace while driving in autopilot? (SAC 1st GIG) Coolness. Not the driving in autopilot part, the part about being in the net and in RL all at the same time.
Cybernetic limbs and implants? Definitely a yes for medical reasons, but not for the sake of super power or anything like that. Going full cyborg is a bit of a thorny issue, the prospect of living eternally in a body that never ages has got me thinking; an attractive prospect, but the implications are not trivial - in effect, mortality woild have been overcome. And as thewoundedsoldier already mentioned, there would be all sorts of religious and other opposition to this.
What about physically dying, but to have the conscience remain floating in cyberspace? Is that possibly more acceptable than eternal life in a mechanical body?

That was deep, I think if that is the case, we have something like eternity in life and death, that would be good actually. However, we can also be easily wiped out, cause if the physical us dies, then we exist nothing as mere digital data, easily deleted...my only fear.
I would like to be connected all day, and still walk around, just imagine, I am on my usual bus trip (or by feet) I am talking to my father 6000 miles away, or at the same time, without any hassle, ordering an extra large sandwich from the halls space, while handling some last minute homework checking along the way.
Of course, with my Satelite Positioning system, my wired body, cyborg wise, allows for control of my walking, I don't bump into anyone or any traffic, or better yet, I am riding along with automatic skates or something similiar.
While all this time, I am doing nothing more than running through my head thoughts that activate the machines.
Now how cool would that be?
I could not care less of religion or whatever...to me, religion is the only thing wrong that is holding man back from advancing further...for example stem cell research...

I'd go full cyborg if I still look somewhat human and nothing like those in Texhnolyze. It would give me far superior mental and physical abilities. However, I like the idea of existing as pure consciousness more than having a cyborg body. I wouldn't mind losing my entire physical existence and exist as part of the wired kind of like Lain. There's so much more freedom to living like that than a physical existence since you're still attached to the physical world.
I'll go for half cyborg I wouldnt sacrifice my whole being and become a mech I dont want to waste myself and become a mechanical person
