Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

Ok i found out someone stole my ssn and DES knows who they are and where they live.

I went to the police to file a report and they said they cant get the name from DES.

The guy is working with my social security number.

Basically, someone knows where he is, who he is and the SOcial security office cant do anything...

so he stole and is gettin away with that,

What would you do if this happened to you?!

Not really familiar with Social Security but I believe it should be somewhat similiar to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) as well as the Pension Scheme Fund in my country.

Does the Social Security mail you any updates on your SS account? The EPF sends me my quarterly statement to show how much I have in my EPF account. That is the strongest proof that you are the valid account holder and that the other person is a fraud. With that SS Statement, just show it to the officers at SS.

I don't think SS issues fall under the jurisdiction of the police. Just like corruption cases goes to the Anti-graft agency or illegal immigrants issue falls under the Immigration Dept., I believe this case should be appropriately handled by any Ministry/agency in charge of Social Security or Human Resource. The police can only act when there's an official request I believe.

Check with the Social Security officers first and if things don't work out, then bring your problem to the relevant regulation authorities.

That's the most proper and logical procedure IMO.

I would hunt him down myself, hold him at gunpoint, and then call the cops. Handcuffs wouldn't hurt either :P

I will find that person myself and unleash my angre on that person.
I know that's wrong, but that person stole something, the cops and the social security people can't do anything about it even though they know who it is. That's just wrong.
I'm just saying that I'll go crazy.

As I have already mentioned earlier, the police are not responsible for Social Security problems.

I went to the police to file a report and they said they cant get the name from DES.

Taking action without having proper authority is overstepping the boundaries of the powers accorded to them in the Constitution. The police are only responsible for violations of the Constitution (i.e. taking away the life of others aka murder, taking things from other people aka theft or robbery, etc). Social Security comes under the Social Seccurity Act which does not fall under the responsibility of the police. Information stored in Social Security is private and confidential. To actually gain access to such information, they will need a valid reason to request for a court order to instruct the Social Security to release such info. The police cannot just waltz in there and rummage through the server whenever they feel like it. There are proper procedures to everything.

Basically, someone knows where he is, who he is and the SOcial security office cant do anything...

01. How sure are you that the people at Social Security or the employer know that identity theft is occuring? Someone could have impersonate you and got a job with that.
02. How sure are you that it is the work of insiders? You could have gotten scammed.

Unless you can provide evidence (which I have yet to see in this thread), it can all be construed as unsupported allegations and assumptions.

And here's a site that have some relevant info on how to handle identity theft:

1 I would file a report with the police that your SS has been stolen.
2 Tell the SS office about the fact that your SS# has been stolen and being used elsewhere and that you have already filed a police report.
3 The SS office should take care of the situation if not contact your mayor's office as there should be a citizen's help line or something like that.

LOL at stupidity and not reading.

ok, anyway, as I know, I too while in england have a number like thing I carry around as a form of my identification.
You should know that, the best way is ask your bank, your bank should have details to all your numbers and etc. Bank account numbers, bank numbers, phone numbers adresses.
By offering them your identification card or any proof of ID, you should be able to obtain relay information through them.
Also, keep in mind if your SS# have any other uses, say use to proove employee privileges, credit card usages, and tax payment schemes, you can approach these people and offer to tell the respective departments and understand the importance.
If they do use your number, they should have a safe copy with it.

Let me say by there is no Private Number, all things are monitored by the government and there must be some officials out there who would hold proof to your SS# details and such.

always with the guns......you batter him with a cricket bat and say it was in self defence when the cops show up. far more enjoyable.

In the United States, Social security # are a way of identifying a person. We use it on a lot of stuff in our daily life. When a person steals that # for the purposes of idenitiy theft its a crime. So its a criminal matter for the police to take care of.

so therefore it is an ID then?
then the best way is to approach the government office responsible for taking care of this to settle this identity crisis.
Like the Malaysian government side, we have an office where you get your ID done, and recorded on card. this card is distributed from that office and they have all your details, fingerprints and etc.
Should not be too hard to get any of that right?

Even if it is identity theft, there are still relevant authorities which you must refer to because they are responsibly for handling such cases. The police cannot usurp the authority of another enforcement body. In the case of SSA, the authority with the power to investigate and take action would be Office of the Inspector General (OIG).

You should have checked out SSA's website on how to handle such matters.

> How to report fraud
> Penalty for identity theft
> What to do in the case of identity theft

Just like how it applies to AP, reading the GUIDE (and stickies) helps a long way.
