Increase Your Computer Speed
This isn't a hack nor anything illegal. It is a simple process to make your computer go faster.
Remember, this is for only Windows XP users only.
Just right click on "My Computer" icon and select properties. Then click on the "Advanced" tab and click on "Settings" under the performance tab. On the pop-up, choose "Custom". Now un-check every option except the last 3 options. Click "Apply" and wait for 3-4 seconds for it to load. (DO NOT DO ANYTHING IN THESE 3-4 SECONDS). Click "Ok". Under the "Advanced" TAB, click on "Error Reporting". On the pop-up, disable ERROR REPORTING but keep the one and only option selected. Finally you press "Ok" and again click "Ok".
You'll notice that your computer will be able to load programs alot faster and such. This will NOT damage your system whatsoever. Enjoy. ^^

Jaja... become WIN2K........
Just turns off all the crap most of us won't notice. i find moving the page file and splitting the windows install to its own partion also helps to keep the speed up.
also turning off all the crap that turns on when you turn on the pc help. go run type "msconfig" go to the startup tab and turn off all the crap you don't need. also handy for getting rid of spy crap.

There are many additions that help to increase the speed of the computers, at this moment nonmemory the one name.
WOW, that's so coool.
My PC is so fast now, I don't even realize when a window comes up, it's that fast.
thanks a lot, you are true genius.

To bad it doesn't work for me, turning of those options messed up my customized looks.
But thanks for sharing your tips with us.

That would be the point. The steps suggested free up resources that are otherwised used to make windows look prettier.

Same here, using those options ruins my customised look and there is no significant performance boost at all :S
Luna on newer PCs doesn't cause a performance hit because it's mostly 2-D acceleration anyway. On older PC's I could probably see switching to a classic theme, but it wouldn't be too noticable on newer ones - in the kinds of performance gains you are describing.
I have all those options unchecked at work to free up memory from explorer.exe and a couple other processes. I think the difference between all options and no options is approx 14 megs of memory.
Speeding up computers in a purely modern sense would be to buy more memory. The diffrerence between 1 gig and 2 gig is immediately apparent. Alt-Tab for instance happens in an instant.

I haven't really noticed any sort of performance increase in seperating OS with a new partition. (I'm using 2X raid0 74gb raptors)
In addition to what everyone said, you can try going to the services manager by typing services.msc in the run box. Here you can disable useless services like error reporting service (by right clicking, pressing stop, then going to the dropdown menu and selecting disabled. I might add that this is for more advanced users and that stopping some processes will mess up your computer (although you will probably be able to reverse it)
