Asus as really good motherboards then choose an nforce4 if s939 or nforce 590 if AM2 and you'll be satisfied.

Laiostoo, if you're more specific with the kind of computer you want to accomplish, we can pinpoint much better (and more accurate) motherboard suggestions to you. If you know what kind of processor you're looking for, then you'll narrow your motherboard choices down a lot. Asus is known for its quality motherboards and top-notch customer service. Though their motherboards rarely break down or arrive DoA, in the case that something bad does happen, customer service is there for prompt service and perhaps replacements.
Biostar is also a pretty decent motherboard manufacturer. My old computer's been using a Biostar motherboard for as long as it could remember, and it still works fine.

I would recomend you to go for an AM2 platform. you can get an AMD X2 for just 150 bucks, DDR2 isn't expensive nowadays and ASUS has a nice 500 series N-Vidia MPC mobo for about 90$.
Conroe it's a good option of course but I like AMD, hehe.
But really, if you want a good advise put your budget or some data about what are you looking for.

I agree with what the people above said. You need to let us know what are your requirements. A gaming pc and an office pc have specific requirements. And the processor you are choosing will define the board you want. There are lots of criteria which you must consider. E.g. Are you building a future-proof pc? What are your requirements? Need things like SATA, PCI-Xpress?
But whatever, you won't be too far off with an Asus.. I also like Abit boards.

The new 4 core jobbie from intel is looking very intresrting you might want to hold off for a few more weeks.
Yea, if you really want a good processor and if you are interested in some overclocking. Intel's Core Duo2 6300 Allendale can be a good choice. As saka said , ASUS motherboards are pretty decent and the 965 and 975 chipset ones used for the 6300 are good ones too.

If you are interested in AMD processors (mainly the athlon 64's which are getting quite old) DFI is a very VERY good overclocking board, but it is incredibly picky about RAM and powersupplies. THEY will not perform well if you plan to use a powersupply that comes with a case (my friend busted his DFI board by doing that, and had to spend a lot of extra money getting a new PSU and mobo) and may not work with brand of RAM like Kingston (check dfi-street.com for a complete guide of what the mobo likes and does not like). Plus the entire board is UV reactive and glows under UV light, very good looking for cases with windows.
If you like to tinker around and overclock, this board is for you. Otherwise stay away, it will just cause lots and lots of headaches.

What TYPE of processor are you going to be using?
Are you going to overclock it?
What type of Graphics Card are you going to be using?
And what are you going to be using it for? (by it meaning playing games, using it for office etc, etc.
Each of those are questions and the answers point to the right motherboard for you.
