Suzumiya Haruhi - God Knows...

Hey there, this is the first wallpaper I ever made and I thought I should post it here before just adding it to the gallery.
No need to go easy on me tell me exactly what you dislike and what should be better ^^

Black and red is a pretty nice combo. I think that the patterned red is kind of bad i'm not sure why.

Maybe in the black space you could put the lyrics of the song.

Black and red do look really good on Haruhi, and the potential is good, but it kinda feels empty. I agree with Rei; put in something more to fill it up! Song lyrics is a good idea ^^

Okay, I added the lyrics to fill in the empty space and since rei0zero said that the red looked kinda bad I changed it too. I chose the english lyrics since I dislike Romanji ^^

Critique please

Looks good, but I see extraction left overs.

I like the textured red part, and the big H looks quite nice :D I would suggest a less scripty font for the background lyrics, something simple like Avant Garde; and maybe you could place the lines closer together so there's less blank space behind Haruhi.

Also, the lines going behind Haruhi and down the "God Knows..." text are too bright, and take attention away from Haruhi herself D: So please lower the opacity of those. And to make her brighter, you could duplicate her layer and set it to "Overlay" or "Soft Light" (assuming you're using Photoshop or PSP). It's one of my favourite techniques and should help her stand out a lot more :D

Please upload your next image to ImageShack; generally, Photobucket tends to compress images, especially wallpapers ^^; I look forward to seeing the next version~!

Like ~mumpo said... Imageshack is best. I generally loathe outer glow in walls... the glow on the upper part of her body, being white, ends up looking like it was poorly extracted (at least, I hope it's just a glow gone wrong... easy to fix). As for the actual extraction, I cannot comment properly since I can't full-view it.

Text is generic. I always recommend this site for fonts.

First of all I fixed the lil extraction leftovers, should be fine now. Then I lowered the opacity of the lines and dublicated her layer and set it to "soft light" as mumpo suggested, it really does look nice. Took me a bit to figure out how, since I'm using the german version of photoshop xD
Last but not least I changed the font. I don't have Avant Garde and couldn't find it for free anywhere so I went with Monotype Corsiva in the end, hope it's good >_<
And thanks shigemitsubaki for the font site, was looking for a good one.

Is it good like this? Critique please ^^

I can't put my finger on what bugs me a little about the composition...but then again, everybody has preferences when it comes to layout. so i'm gonna just leave that.

so first, the quality of your haruhi scan is really rather low... i don't know if you've noticed but she's all blurry and stuff, next to the crisp and sharp bg. AP is tough on low quality things so either you vector this or get yourself a higher quality image of her. and could you please remove the glow? generally, don't use default effects on scans. and i also feel that she's somehow not completely tied into the bg...as if the bg isn't perfectly suited to that image of her.

monotype corsiva...mm, i dislike that font being used here because it doesn't work for your wall. i can totally see it on some formal invitation card, but there are other situations (including this) where it doesn't work. for those lyrics, i'd recommend something even closer to your regular typing font. well, you don't have to go as generic as times new roman, but there are plenty of nice, clean, simple fonts out there that'd serve you better than monotype corsiva. try something out and see if it works (because i can't promise anything, lol). but it might mean having to choose a different font for "god knows..." in order to create a style consistency between all the text.

another thing about the text is that the way the lyrics are laid out just makes me think you put it there to take up space, especially since the font is quite large and then there are even bigger spaces in between the lines. careful with that. and see if there is any way to improve how you use the space in the bg.

anyways, just dropping some thoughts. hope something helps you in some way and good luck with your work. =]

Ah i don't like the outer glow. And the scan is not a good quality too..
Well she already got you in it *points up*
yeah true the fonts are really bad, you should change that with simple and good fonts and make the opacity about 50-75%.. I think that should make it ^^

Ok, the quality of the scan....
I got the scan in EXTREMELY high quality (2mb file) and replaced the old one, it's razorsharp now. If you plan on telling me that there are extraction leftovers anywhere then prepare to get a knife rammed in your back! xD j/k
I removed the glow, changed the fonts and highlighted some of the words in the background.
I have to say I myself am quite satisfied with it now ^^

I dunno whats wrong with the paper..
but it just doesn't qualify to be a wallpaper at my desktop even if I love haruhi.
