Anime similarities
1 Page: [ 1 ]
Do you ever notice a similarity between you and characters from each anime you have chosen to watch? ^_^ Does this influence your decision to keep watching, or is it not really a big deal? Why or why not?
For me, I notice that I can find 1 character that I share a few qualities with in each of the series I watch ^_^. Usually it does influence me in someway as I can relate to the character and it gives me a sense that I know how the character is feeling and I can see how the character progresses later on ^_^.

Um, I do a lot of roleplaying gaming, so I can essentially have a dozen different personalities floating around in my head at any given time; each with their own set of goals/morals/abilities. And to me they're all still "me" so the answer to your question is yah, I can relate to almost any male character in egsistance. Women are harder because I don't have their viewpoint.
I don't think it influences me any though, I may quote anime or learn things from it or philosophize or whatever but it's not directly affecting me on that sort of scale.

Well, everyone sort of has a stereotype character they enjoy most. It can be some one fun and eccentric like Akira Toriyama's main series character Goku or someone a little more reserved like Death Note's Light.
It depends on the favorite genre of the viewer but generally for me, there isn't a specific type, since an anime that gets my attention usually does so by having an enganging storytelling. Altough some very annoying characters do eventually turn off the appeal of some shows, for me especifically, the Azumanga Daioh's Charge of Class teacher... (i dont even remember her name)

I think it makes it more interesting when you can compare characters across series. Sometimes I think about how two characters may get along if they share the same ideals like Light from Deathnote and Leouch from Code Geass. I think it would be awesome to see those two together.

I love comparing characters across series.
My fav. anime characters are usually those with more brain and less crazy ass heroism (naruto), I like characters like Lelouch in code geass and Raito in death note. Then I compare them (woot), and find out what I like from each.
ALso, xiao lang in Tsubasa and Suzaku from code geass are so damn alike, I realy hate both of their "justice" type feelings and they even look god damn identical.
I don't quite compare these characters to my own personalities, but I like to think of what I would've done in their situations. Like if I get a death note or something, how I would carry out my own plans.

Well, in animes and rpgs... alot of the time the main characters are very similar and even the storyline if ya think about it... cuz honestly why change something that works... ever hear of the saying 'why try to fix something thats not broke?'
and plus, how many different ways can ya make main character... he is usually the leader from arise, the base of the team, the one in love, the one at feels he/she must save the world... all things that interlink ya know

Lol actually many anime share similar characters. There's only so many ways to draw an anime character.
You might also wanna think about the fact that sometimes characters are made to be like some other character...For instance, You can trace the origin of the "Young character with white hair" trait to Gato from MSG0083. He was the first, the original, the perpetrator of all characters with white hair on a young man(this doesn't mean others haven't had very light blond but theres a definite difference between the two).
So of course some people are going to look similar.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to reply to my own message after a while, but I noticed a lot of people misread my post, hehehehe. I was talking though about how the personalities of certain characters might reflect your personality, and if you ever continue to watch an anime based on the fact that you can relate to them ^_^.
Like for me, Rino Randou of Gokujou Seitokai reminds me of myself a lot of the time, as I tend to be very polite and happy to people and seem a bit clumsy, hehehe ^_^.

Hmmm...i would be similar to the anime character who is:
the typical otaku
no girlfriends
crazed and mind only filled about anime, and games
loser
NERD
HAHAHAHAHA
so pretty much im the minor character in all those anime "school life" series which show guys who hang out with the main as the "dorky" friends XD

Well i never come across many characters that reflect my personalities. Maybe it s just that i don't watch too many anime. After all anime are supposed to appeal to as many peopl as possible, not for an individual. My choice of anime is based on the graphics and the contents.

It happens to me all the time. For example:
Hakuoro (Utawarerumono): Caring
Sakura Kinomoto (Card Captor Sakura): Nice
Shino (Naruto): Quiet
There are more, I just can't think of any. Still, it happens to me a lot, I'm not sure if it happens to everyone though.
I will still watch an anime even though I'm not similar to the character. It does help as you mentioned to be similar so you know how the feel.
