Expensive Things... Does it really give you status?
In ages of all kind, we have seen it all, governments want us to purchase the originals, the originals creators wanted to slaughter us all with prices that will guarantee absolute exclusivity... Tonino Lamborghini wallets, Mercedes Benz/Brabus/AMG tuned Kompressor super sedans, Gucci designed handbags, Versace shirts that cost a fortune, Original editions of CDs from original artists...
In the age where inflation means the world to all of us, from the prices of fuels, to the prices of raw materials, we have seen it all... and yet, in blinding conformity, we must buy... regardless it be service, or product, creature comforts that calms the physical need, but profoundly weakens the soul and the mind slowly as it rots away our little available ability to save money...
I know... I know, you are a rich little brat, spending all your parents money on anime... figurines, etc, did you know money doesn't grow on trees? Well... now you do, have you understood the concept of saving and spending? Have you know, your parents did not want you to spend like a maniac not because they are stingy because they are funding your way to a college education? To a fine career so one day, you will sit on your big chair and see how your employees worm themselves through every speckled dust of life to support whatever meager lifestyle they may have... for themselves and their families?
Well... so true. So what do you do then? Do you think that expensive things, cars, anime, whatever that strikes your fancy, as an adult, and as a adolescent to become a young adult, as a person, does capitalism capture your attention? Do you think buying things expensive and wearing them really afford you status as you should be having?
Is it really that it affords you status, even if you are able to afford it regardlessly, knowing that you have much to spare in your 7 digit account.
What do you think?

Governments? Its a large conglomerate of privately owned corporations that run the world. Government is a structural term used to delude Humanity into believing that "Paper or Plastic" is freedom. To answer your question simply, yes expensive things give social stature in suburban and urban communities.

People tend to be cattle, particularly as it relates to celebrity endorsements. Take a short stroll through any makeup/perfume section of any store and you'll see many products with the moniker of one retard celebrity or the other. It amazes me how people will let their purchase decisions be affected by some bottom-feeding slag who is a talentless hack but happens to have money. As an aside, ANYONE who assumes the title of celebrity should be summarily executed, and any celebrity who uses their name to promote a political agenda should be drawn and quartered.
"Designer" items are another that make me livid. My boss's daughter, who is a pretentious bitch, HAD TO HAVE a Prada purse (it was around $1200). Why? Because all her rich, spoiled, useless friends did.
My only "rich" concession is my Corvette, which I can barely afford. Also, I use it as a work car since it gets 26mpg and can hasten my travel from one job site to another.
Personally, I'm utilitarian. When I need some clothes, its because my other clothes are falling apart. To replace said clothes, I'll go to Wal-Mart, Dollar General, and Hot Topic, or I'll make my own anime shirts. Cheap is good!
Short answer: expensive shit doesn't make you special.

Yeah, it gives you a stupid status of being a fat rich pig on a convertible having all golds and silver passing by poor children who hasn't eat for days. too much that is
either having expensive things make you a hard-working poeple. an intelligent person, sophisticated, well mannered and all with the package. something on high standards. but you can't really say like that since many are just social climbers just to get that stats

Of course, I would say social climbers are quite the lot, but I am talking about you, the ordinary layman, who has a simple job, a simple personal thing, do you always endorse yourself to big brands you can't afford to show you have some kinda status? I think we should think twice before we spend, but that doesn't seem like the modern example to follow.

I usually buy stuff that i like and yes im proud to say im not part of the bandwagon that goes buy all the stuff thats in style or shows that you got money cuz its sells really expensive.
And to be honest, my first and always reaction to brands that are expensive (clothes usually) are "ehhh...thats 30 pounds for a shirt that looks crap...lame" and just cause people have this and that i dont particularly get the pressure to go get a part of that.
Besides...expensive "branded" stuff arent worth it for me cuz i got a lot more stuff that i want to do with money when i get a job (donate to websites, purchase figurines!)
and my allowance is so small that i would normally complain but i dont spend it XD cuz i got nothing to spend it on so its nothing to me.

As it pertains to myself I absolutely believe it. I've been conditioned from birth into believing it and I think everyone here will not say otherwise, as for liking it ... that is different story, it I hate being this way.

I'm not really loaded with money but once in a while, when I can afford, I do tend to buy stuff from the high end brands or original DVDs, manga, games and other stuff. It's not because I'm a social climber and like to flaunt my branded and original things but because I like to spoil myself. Doesn't really matter if people notice my branded stuff but being the materialistic person that I am, expensive things do not give me status but they relax me, in a way. They give me the satisfaction of knowing that I saved up for them enough to actually buy them for myself. It is sort of like: I worked my ass off, I deserve something good to reward myself.
Besides, I tried buying the "cheaper alternatives" and they just don't cut it for me since they don't last that long and/or their quality is just too poor to tolerate. I learned my lesson when buying those stuff and I'm just wasting more money on them.

Personally, i think that expensive things may give us a status; however, it make people to become more materialistic and money minded. Of course, expensive things always have their brand and goodwill. To me, i also like those things with brand, because i believe they have good qualities and high standard, but normally they are very expensive. So, i always have a look only. (Because still studying and haven't started working)-_-
I'm quite materialistic and love to buy expensive things for myself, but I mostly do it for appearance. Just because I tote around a Gucci handbag doesn't mean I have a high social status; I do it because no one else around here has one, and for some reason or other, it makes me feel good about myself.

I do agree in rewarding yourself every now and then, that is quite acceptable really, and science in social studies tells us if you do not reward yourself, it is quite agonizing to go through life.
But to expect everyone to be proud of you that you can spend, is something I would definitely not do, and definitely do think is NOT right to do. Nonetheless, I can't change you.

For me expensive things are worthless... XD you could buy something a lot cheaper that can look like it was an expensive thing and work the same or much better than its expensive counterpart... also, living in a poor country will make you realize how many people you could help if you were to donate all those excess money you used to buy an expensive thing...
