Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

Learning to Like Bad Anime Music

I felt that it was more appropriate to post in the anime section because of experience with this...

So, everyone knows that there is some incredible anime music out there, but what about the mediocre or even flat out bad music? For me, it seems that I grow accustomed to the music and eventually like it because it reminds me of the anime and scenes from it (primarily for better anime series). I begin to listen to some music that I would never normally simple because it's from an anime series I've watched. Since that's all kind of vague, here are some extreme examples:

<<warning - example might not work if you music tastes isn't like mine>>

Death Note, second intro
I'm not the heavy rock guy, and a ridiculous song such as Death Note's second intro would not fit my taste NORMALLY. However, watching the scenes that they synced with the music makes it where I would even watch it several times! I do know people who simply did not like it though, so...to the next example!

NANA, basically all their music
I've been exposed to all sorts of Asian music, and I'd have to say, singing in English doesn't work for them. The first time I heard the music for the series, I thought it was terrible. After 45 episodes though, I've definitely grown accustomed to it and might even groove unintentionally.

Lucky Star

Can anyone relate or is it just me? ^^

Bloody hell... Konata picks only the most hardcore of mecha fans would choose... all those are classic stuff you ain't never seen before!

and that said, the best anime songs always have a catchy tune to it.

The reason why I have now the CCS collection is cause at least 3 of the 10 songs have a good tune to it, but the rest is flat, it is mundane and overly kiddie voice just makes me wanna cringe in most cases, but then, you have the album you learn to like it.

The other being stuff that they tried to copy happy hardcore hip hop like the opening theme "Bomb a Head" in Tenjo Tenge, which I think was frankly ridiculous, you can't hear a single word from its rhyming, much less dance to it, what the hell was it all about, I hear nothing "Sheyyyyyiiaaaa! bummmb a hhhhead bummmb a dead..."

I didnt use to like j music cuz i couldnt understand a word but now...seeing as a lot have a reallly good tune...i rarely listen to any english songs. It probably came from listening to OP's and ED's of animes.

And due to that...went to forums and stuff, found Touhou (j game).

I didnt use to like Techno/ Hardcore music but now im a mega "hardcore" fan of "hardcore" cuz "hardcore" is just so awesome and "hardcore" cuz the album compilation torrent of touhou (8.3GB) consists of lots of techno hardcore songs which are just pur pwnage.

I guess i changed a lot with my musics of choice

Well the only Anime which comes into my mind right now considering that fact is none other than the famous legendary Cowboy Bebop:

The Anime's main score was about Jazz. I usually do not listen to Jazz music because I prefer New Metal like Linkin Park. I am not a Jazz fan,... but now that I think back to my days as a Cowboy Bebop fan I totally agree that this type of music has made the Anime world widely famous among International Anime fans. Only Jazz fits in Cowboy Bebop and no other type of music. That's the way it is supposed to be...

A minor thing... I do not listen to kids songs normally like Pokemon, Digimon. Beyblade. I think those types of music are too childish for my age, but sometimes I can't help it but listening to them when I feel that this type of music fits into the Anime type.

My conclusion: Like any other components of a good Anime,... the music that fits to that type of Anime MUST match or otherwise it will fail to catch the viewer and causes the wrong feel throughout the entire series...

If I don't like the songs then I usually just skip them. Forcing myself to like them is just silly imop.

You may not like a certain kind of music in daily life,... BUT if it fits to the movie type you're gonna like it automatically anyway,... that means in some cases like forexample in Star Wars.

I usually do not listen to classical music or choirs,... but imagine what would a movie like Star Wars be, if there is Rock'n Roll OST Ála Elvis Presley,... how does that make you feel as a Star Wars fan even if you favorite music preference IS actually Rock music??

Every type of Anime or other motion pictures has a certain set of music which would fit into the movie's environment, or otherwise it will fail to reach the audience. Music emphasis the drama of Action, Thrillers, Beat'em ups etc, etc... You will like some, you will not like some,... but you will adapt automatically to it if you really enjoy the Anime...

It actually kind of depends on what kind of person you actually are. for me. I am so into anime that the songs that i listen are 80% anime songs. My friends actually became kind of afraid to ask me for my opinions about songs. as for the ending of lucky star, i find it rather interesting of that the songs are being re-sang in another anime, thought i do wish that i could see them singing instead of just looking at the door. i rather like pardys when certain stuff of an anime is brought into another anime and made fun off. it is kind of nice for me. Though there are come anime songs that i dont really like, like those really heavy metal songs. else there is also the opening song for Tsukuyomi Moon Phase. I just could not get what the hell is going on. but i am rather ok with them...
i guess that sometimes when the music don't fit in it does seems kinda of out of place. but sometimes they are rather nice on their own... but if you still don't like them, then just skip them. save time for you also.

My experince is that you just have to listen to anime music for a certain period of time, and then you'll like it to some extinct.

Neon Genesis Evangelion intro is a good example of a song that in the beginning might be a nuisance, but if you heard it enough it has a catchy tune..

For some reason, I can dislike a show, but think it's music is fantastic...

I remember when the Happy People ending for Bleach came out and people, [my friends, especially] complained how sucky it was. [I think that this was also because it came after the much loved Houkiboshi.] I hadn't caught up at the time, so I hadn't seen the animation, but I downloaded the TV rip from somewhere, and thought "This song is upbeat. Kinda catchy, too." I think that the problem with my friends was, along with the bad timing, was the accompanying animation. Sometimes, the animation rocks, and the song sucks, or then the song's awesome and the animation sucks. It's a grab bag, people.

BTW, heck yes, Zetsubou Billy rules. The animation totally fits that one.

I remember when everyone was waiting for Geass 24-25. The opening theme, Hitomi No Tsubasa, came early because it was in the artist's album. I remember listening to it and thinking, 'wtf are they thinking?! stick to Kaidoku Funou dammit! User posted image

but after seeing it in the actual opening, it kinda grew on me. Now it's #2 on my CG playlist, after Kaidoku Funou. Jinn is awesome >;3

I often download songs of the anime that i've watched. OP, ED, insert songs. But i don't download some bad anime songs. As an anime fans, over than 60% of my songs i enjoy are anime songs.

I guess Higurashi's songs feel bad in my ears. But please don't take this as an offense. Hey... i too am a Higurashi fans, i just don't like the song, that's all.

Lucky Star ED, especially Konata's part is special, i guess, since it's about Lucky Star characters in karaoke room. It's a unique concept of ED i guess. To make this realistic, they used "bad quality" (noise, ambience) to make the karaoke scene "real". But we're talking about the song, and they're very bad... The old mecha anime songs...

DN Angel is another case for me. When i heard the song for the first time, i can't really enjoy it. Something is missing, i guess... But after hearing for several times, i kind of used to it, and enjoy it normally.

Hmm... I would tune out the bad music like a flicking out a light. No I'm kidding, if the music fits with the theme of the anime then it's "good music". There's just some music that I like better because it suits my taste. But it's not really "bad" music if it fits the anime series' style. I wouldn't listen to .hack//sign OST but it definitely fits the style and theme of the anime so it's a good listen when watching the anime.

Only the really awesome music like Air Gear Original Soundtrack and the 2nd ending for Gundam Seed (River by Tatsuya Ishi) will catch my attention. I don't like Techo music like most Gundam series but simply because it matches the anime so well that I don't mind it (but I wouldn't listen to it on my music player by itself).

Music plays a huge part in anime. So if I dislike the music, mostly the OST, bad openings and endings I can live with. But if the OST is bad, it kinda ruins the mood of the anime for me.

Yeah, I can think of a few cases when a new season of an anime started or I started watching a new anime and thinking to myself, "holy cow, this theme song sucks!" After a while though, they usually end up growing on me and I add them to my ever-growing music library :P

Of course there is also anime music that doesn't necessarily suck, but there would have been no way that I would have listened to it before watching the anime series. A good example of this is most of the Eureka Seven soundtrack... the animation pretty much made me like the music, if you know what I mean.
