Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

I suppose that by my title, im implying that the ones who reply are those who have watched anime at least 3 years

but by all means, any opinion is welcomed (well, except lamers flamers)

Anyway, on to the topic:

Re-watching anime after 3-5 years. Do YOU find the anime better or possibly...worse

So why ask such a...i dunno wierd question?

Well, the topic just entered my mind after i was rewatching some anime that was dated somewhere at 2000-2004. 3-5 years ago (id say i was about 15 or something) was when i got addicted to anime and went more hardcore than usual (but i have been watching since i was like 9 or something). Anyways, found some DVD's, which were some of the very first anime's i watched in the computer (all the anime i watched when i was below 14 was on T.V. and was pretty much the "west" anime titles...if you know what i mean) and decided to watch them again, cuz i was bored.

Back then (3-5 years ago), if someone asked me what i thought about "that" anime, i wouldve said "It was pretty good" or something along those lines. But if someone asks me what i think about "them" now, i would say straight away..."Its a masterpiece".

I dunno why, maybe because when i was 15, i was such an immature punk that basically just watched anime for the action . But after 3-5 years, i guess my view about things in life changed (well i "did" go through the "teens" stage) and i started thinking...more mature?? and actually gave a damn about the plot (meh im being too emo now am i?).

I still like action but somehow...i got bored of it?

PS. So what were the anime i re-watched? Its
-Gunslinger Girl
-Gunparade March
-Starship Operators
All of em? A++ rating from me
And what are the pretty recent anime (1-2 years ago) that i would give A++?
-Kanon 2006
-Hitohira
Mmmm...Drama :D~

EDIT: OMG new layout...i havent been on AP for months. If anyone knows how to transfer a thread, PM me :) I think this should be in the "Past anime series" section instead.

It's been a long time since I've been around this old place. It feels good to be back. As far as watching old anime goes, most I have enjoyed. Stuff that I consider masterpiece material like Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, or Berserk, are good every single time I watch them. Other shows can be hit or miss. For example, I used to love Noir, but I recently rewatched it, and was nearly bored to tears. I think rewatching old favorites can be a lot of fun, but don't be surprised if you wind up changing your opinion about a series.

I usually watch my the animes I have at least once a year, unless it's a REALLY good anime (Kanon, Gurren Lagann, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Air, Initial D...) I usually watch several times over a year. I can tell you right now I've watched Kanon 7 times since it finished airing. I don't even know how many times I've watched Initial D. The first season of Higurashi I've watched 3x, and the second season only once, and I plan to watch the second season (Kai) pretty soon. Gurren Lagann I'll wait for another month or two. Sometimes even if the anime doesn't stand out, I'll still watch it anywhere between half a year and a year later, just because there are things in that anime that I miss (usually the characters).

My thoughts on the animes I've watched several years ago haven't changed, even though the animation quality and audio may have improved over the years.

I think it's funny to see how your tastes may have changed over the years and/or how dated something you loved years ago really is. I remember watching Speed Racer years ago when I was just a little thing, thinking how much more interesting it was compared to almost everything else on television. Then being in love with the Americanized sentai series Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and of course in my pre-teen years being obsessed with Dragonball Z. Although re-watching series like Dragonball Z and Power Rangers leaves me a bit more unsatisfied I look back on my youth.

Now there are some series that you can never really get enough of, and I probably will continue watching and re-watching them until the files/DVDs are incapable of playing anymore. A few series that I can never get enough of include: Matantei Loki Ragnarok, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ouran High School Host Club, Chrono/Crono Crusade, Le Chevalier d'Eon and Welcome to the NHK.

somehow I find it funny to watch past anime like Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon when I was still in elementary school, back then I always watched those kind of anime several times. but looking to the new quality and storyline of the new anime make me feel that the past anime might not be able to compared with them. well...there's a difference preference in the age and also some kind of bored maybe

I always rewatch most anime series I have watched so I don't forget the story/characters and other stuff. Also I rewatch the funny/extreme scenes. I recently rewatched Tenchi Muyo. One of the first animes I've watched and boy it was nostalgic.

Whenever I rewatch an anime, I tend to notice things that I haven't noticed the 1st, 2nd, or even the 3rd time that I have re-watched it. Its pretty fun watching anime that I have watched in the past few years, since you usually don't have a vivd memory of how the anime went along, and also there are new discoveries that I find of the anime. I have re-watched Fate/Stay Night and Shingetsutan Tsukihime during my spring vacation, and I thought it was real good!! These anime that are real good, I give a rest to for months or years, than re-watch it to find that the anime is awsome.
But sometimes if the anime was real good to begin with, or something that gave you a huge impact, let's say something like Death Note, I would remember what would happen, so the anime wouldn't give me a huge impact that I have received before, and it would feel as if the anime has become more junk, but I guess it has to do with the genre, since it's a mystery type, but if you already know what's going to happen the anime wouldn't seem as good. But that's if you remember it, so I plan to rewatch Death Note after few years have passed, so I would love the anime all over again.
Some other type of anime, like a comedy type, I would tend to re-watch frequently and still able to laugh my head off, like Pani Poni dash, you just got to love Himeko!! Woa! That was a long rant(^3^) emoticon

I found that if I watched something I absolutely loved when I was younger I look at it differently the second time around, I'm in a different place in life so something I loved isn't as influential and it loses some of it's value. I don't find alot of the things I used to funny either. I re-watched slayers, and thought... wow I laughed at some random stuff. But it was because it was random at the time that it was funny, and the one-liners didn't hit me as hard as they used to.

I'm rewatching Record of Lodoss War. I don't remember why I was so crazy about it besides its music, but it's good memories anyway. And it's a classic, so...

The only anime I tend to re-watch again are short ones.

Mostly movies and OVA's. I've never had the time to watch an old series again cos I have a few new titles to watch so I never think about watching them.

many of the ones I watched as a child I tend to watch again and again, one of my favourites being Devilman. I've watched that countless times and only just watched that last week. Still enjoy it and everytime I re-watched it I notice a few times I never noticed the previous time I watched it.

There are two anime series which I'm going to watched in the future and that will happen when I've caught up with watching everything I have and those two are Cowboy Bebop and Urusei Yatsura.

Both are timeless classics but Urusei Yatsura is 195 episodes long and worth every moment spent but that I'll probably watch in say 10 years.

The only stuff I tend to rewatch all the time are movies. However, I sometimes rewatch series when I can coax someone to watch them with me. My sister likes some anime (but is not really an anime fan) and there are times where I can get her to watch something I've already seen. Also, my mom is pretty open-minded about stuff as I got her to watch Cowboy Bebop and she usually seeks out anime movies on TV.

I've actually been on a kick lately where I have been rewatching Old anime mainly because 90% of the new anime sucks. I recently bought Birdy the Mighty, Sailor moon (all except one damn dvd) and rayearth season 1 and the OVA.
I find old anime to be better. and i mean old as in 90's, late 80's. When it wasn't mass produced and was all about the story and characters, as opposed to now where it's 6 girls, one guy, and the question of "which one will he end up with OMG!" like kanon, clannad, air, EF, etc. I actually enjoyed air, but if you asked me to compare it to something like karekano, or escaflowne or something, i would say it doesn't compare in the least.
I'm sick of new anime...so I've just been retreating to the old.
I've recently been rewatching star ocean EX (not even a good anime...but better than the crap out now) and like I mentioned above, birdy the mighty and rayearth.
i think it all depends on when you got into ti, and what you originally saw. A lot of people can't stand the older style.

Watching anime 3-5 years later is awesome. You get to relive it all over again. You get to get excited, angry, sad, happy, and much more. You remember things that you forgot and that is awesome.

Rewatching anime after a 3-5 year period is nice but to top it off, having the anime of around the nineties vintage makes it even better. Animation style of around year 2000 onwards IMO isn't really too different from now (other than being more sophisticated due to advancement of CG technology). There's the heavy use of CG and other whatnots and the anime offerings...well, the ones in the later years seem to be more of manga/game adaptations (at least the more mainstream ones).

I do miss the old-school days of The Vision of Escaflowne, Saber Marionnette, Evangelion, Rayearth, The Slayers, etc. Their story plots are truly a class of their own. Heck, even Fist of the North Star was so macho cool with its funky outdated animation style.

Come to think of it, my Fist of the North Star has been sitting idle in my CD folder half-watched for months now. *brushes off dust*
