read it.
It resulted me saying...
what the f*ck has happened to this anime loving world?
Has we gone mad?
I facepalm.jpg at this monstrous fad consuming people.
and she is twelve I know, imagine what happens when she is 18?
FACT, there are people who are over 22 and still are like this.

Well, it could pan out in a few different directions. Either she could gradually grow out of it as she gets older, or the obsession could get worse as she ages.
I find it especially humorous that the mom knows exactly what's going on, but really doesn't seem to care. She didn't seem worried about her at all or really expressing any concern.
I guess, in my personal opinion, is everyone needs a hobby. Stuff like fanfics she enjoys to do now, but most likely she'll move onto something else when she is tired with that. Though, that is rather alarming, and at such a young age too. Alas, what happened to parenting? I suppose they feel it's harmless and technically it is, but gah, that just doesn't seem healthy to me.

If she's a smart 12 -year old girl, she'll know that school and work is gonna get rough in a few years. I was kind of like her when I was 12, but I wasn't so into anime as I am now back then. I watched a lot of television and played tons of video games, but I still studied to keep up and get B-averages. There's two things that's going to happen to her when she gets older: she's gonna drop out of school and end up watching anime/reading manga for the rest of her life locked in her room, or start to think about her future and make a few sacrifices.
Today I still play my games, some of which I played when I was 12, but I definitely know where the line is and when I should stop playing around and start studying/working hard. If she's going to grow up being productive, I think it's alright. There're lots of stuff that kids do these days that freak me out, but they're only 12, they have lots of time to think about their future, and before they know it, they either realize they took the wrong or right path.

It's not like some people who wholeheartedly believe that the character is real and that they will marry them, so I wouldn't classify it as wrong to hold those feelings. I admit to feeling the same way about Shaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura, although I don't go as far as some people have to where they get jealous if someone else feels the same way I do. I just feel that he is cute and brave and if he was real, he'd be someone I'd easily fall in love with.
She likes those qualities he has, and possibly since no one she knows has those qualities, she focuses on something that does. It's like having a dream guy/girl, just that you can see them in someway ^_^. You know you can't marry the character, but it's no different than dreaming of the person you think is right for you. It only gets serious if the person actually believes they can marry this character, as that is taking it a step too far.

The only problem that this can cause is that if she never outgrows her obsession.. It can easily destroy her life. But, seeing as she is still young, there's still a good chance that she'll be able to realize this, and change her ways for the better.
IMO, she behaves the way she does because her instincts are not intelligently and maturely controlled. We humans all behave predictably, because our instincts drive our actions, whether we like it or not. In this case, her love instinct has wired itself to fantasize about a fictional character, and refuses to let her rational mind to completely separate fact from fiction. It is because the instinctual brain is much stronger than the logical mind.

Er, I'm going to post from another side...(an obsessed girl that I am)
I'm 17 and I still have that kind of obsession with a fictional guy...(check my signature) And occasionally I write fan-fics too.
But, I'm can say truthfully that I'm still in control of my life, and I won't let my obsession get in the way while I'm doing something. The most 'harm', if you could call it that, from my obsession with Rutherford is that I spend a lot of money collecting the art books, pictures, posters etc which are associated with him. And I almost invariably compare every guy that I know with him, and I find those guys ridiculously inadequate in comparison.
Other than that, my results are pretty good and my parents do not lose any sleep over me. Besides, my life doesn't just revolve around anime and manga - I do a lot of other things that people my age do: shopping, watching movies, and I like playing music too.
In my opinion, my obsession over Rutherford actually brought more good than bad...thinking about him drives me to study harder. As a result, my grades are getting better~ And he plays the piano superbly, which in turn drives me to practise harder on my piano
I think he's like a role model, lover, everything I could need packed in one~ It's something like an imaginary friend that kids have when they are young, just that the feelings are more intense. Unlike HappyKari, I actually do get jealous when others share my feelings, but still I won't do anything stupid or harmful to that person~
Maybe I will grow out of it one day, but I intend to savour and enjoy every moment when I'm loving him until I do~
On the other hand, Mojo is a little bit too young to be obsessed, because 12-year-olds are not very matured despite what they might have experienced and seen. If she treats Sasuke like a role model and works towards the better, that is fine. But if she behaves like him...that would be a little worrisome because Sasuke is quite violent and emo, and her poor parents might have to face a little girl who throws tantrums and kunai everywhere

Actually this isn't that bad, she's at a young enough age where she can do things like that, hell if I were the parent I would make her go over her fan fictions and improve them with proper grammar or more descriptive words. Plus think how many of us have obsessed over something for a bit, and I even wrote some losely based fan fics back in the day.
Frankly I want to know how well she hid manga in her text books.. I did she cut the pages in the text book? or did she take the pages of the manga out? or did she just hold her book up so the instructor couldn't see? I'm thinking the last one, but I could be wrong.

*chuckles* It actually sounds pretty normal to me. In my eyes, it's not so much different as cases we hear of, where girls claim to be "in love" with this or that movie star. The actors may be real people, but the obsession we're talking about seems to be more or less the same. :) Like, um, just about everyone else has said, it's nothing harmful or terrible if the obsessed person can tell the difference between reality and fantasy and actually set them apart from his or her life. I guess these days it's alright to be fixated with fictional characters - provided, of course, that you don't forget that they are only fictional.
As a sort-of aside, it kind of reminds me of something I read...I honestly can't remember where or who wrote it - I think it was on the Internet, too - but the writer in question said something like, "Fictional 'relationships' are more convenient. You can make them go any way you want, and if you want to stop them because you've found someone else or gotten bored, there are no phone calls, explanations, etc. involved." XD

It's not something that can't be cured.
It'll go on for awhile.
I remember, that I had a crush on Tea fromthe Yugioh tv series back when I was 13.
It faded eventually, mainly because I found anime/manga girls way hotter and cooler than her!
Anyway, I started realizing that my obsessions for anime and games were holding me back from my studies.
Eventually, I learned to control my fetishes and base more of my School time on...School.
Today at the age of 20, nothings changed, except I have more control over myself and am doing a better job than my early days.
So self control is a virtue here.
Hope Mojo can learn to control herself in the future, or else it's going to look pretty grim for her.

I dont find t a big deal, I mean shes just 12. Maybe she'll grow up and begin to love another characters, more mature ones... Maybe she'll get worse and turn into a fat yaoi girl...
Any way, everyone has the right to live their life as they want.

Doesn't seem all that bad; I mean, didn't most people have something that they were obsessed with when they were younger (or still do)?
She'll probably outgrow it as she gets older, or just wean down the fangirlism.
And it is indeed quite funny that the parent knows whats going on, and is just like, "Meh, oh well."

Lets just say she's still just a little girl.
Hopefully she'll grow theright way.And thats all there is to it.

I agree with Longbow, either she will continue to become more obsessed or realize how much more important her future is. It happened almost the same thing with my brother, he got a friend at school and started to hang out with him and also liked to play extremely much! he left his school work, didn't care about anything, stopped listening to everybody and lived in his dream world ^ ^. He continued being obsessed despite the fact that everybody around him tried to talk to him some senses and yet after so many years, he is 21 and still at home playing. He is not like before, he has realized that he has to change his life somehow and that is good, I just hope that he really means it and that it is not only crap:P
Actually, I think I am obsessed as well. In another way perhaps lol, in a nicer way. I used to play a lot, not pay so much attention at school, but I still never let any of my homework undone. Lately though, I have become obsessed, really obsessed, by final fantasy. I listen to soundtracks, search for wallpapers, icons, videos and everything you can imagine. I have bought 3 big figures, a pillow, a keychain, cards and I constantly search for more things! Let's say, my dream is to travel to Japan and buy everything that involves final fantasy ^ ^. Not to mention that I have a huge interest in learning japanese --- pretty badly! A friend of mine bought me a book with the japanese alphabet.

Obsession with a celebrity or a fictional character or just a thing is something most, if not all of us go through in our teenage years. So I say it's pretty normal for her to be so obsessed with Sasuke, although I don't see why. If she can still distinguish between fantasy and reality, then I say that it's pretty normal. Over time, as she gets older, she'll find something else to obsess over, so let the girl enjoy her current obsession while it lasts.
Yeah, but I have seen examples where it does destroy a person, imagine.
1. A person who goes up and says he wants to marry who who.jpg
2. This person is a thirty year old guy
3. Obsession becomes a limitless time and money consuming thing, the person spends every last cent on the person.
Celebrities are also a problem, go to youtube, and you see people trying to be like Shakira.
Anyone watched MTV's I wanna have a famous face?
Look at those pathetic examples of insecurity and people calling themselves persons of individual personality!
You change the very face your parents gave you, go through extensive surgery to become someone else, and you know what? THAT PERSON doesn't even know you exist.
I find it possible that one day it becomes like that.
Which is why, obsession small or large, keep it small and controlled, some however, being young like this girl, I find it kinda sad to know mom knows she spends all her money on Sasuke and does nothing.
Money can be spent elsewhere.
even I don't spend all my cash on manga when I had the chance back when I was 13 or so.
