HARDEST GAMES EVER
Now i have played TONS of video games in my life and i have triumphed over many difficult games , but the two games opinion in which ridiculously hard are ninja gaiden for the crummy ol' xbox and devil may cry 3 on the ps2. Ninja Gaiden was unforgiving , and devil may cry 3 was a little forgiving unless you played on either dante must die or the heaven or hell modes in which the 1st level is utterly impossible to beat because no matter what you die in one hit. Now i must admit i have lost a controller because of this. Ninja gaiden got me angry up to the point that i decided xbox was dumb and i sold the console and game all together. Now i do think games should be challenging to get my money's worth but when it gets me up to the point where i get huge headaches and break my controller thats when the game is a lil too hard.. Especially when the easy mode is just as hard as normal. typing this is getting me angry , i need something easy to play right now( hmmm:: looks at gamecube and copy of super mario sunshine::)
When I first played megaman X I got so mad because of the mole boss I threw my controler at the TV and started to cry (I was three)

devil may cry is hard on the modes you mentioned. i also broke a controller on that game. the chocobo race mini game in FFX is annoying too.

LOL thats funny to hear that you lost a controller over it =P but even though devil may cry 3 is hard, its still a fun game i think. But you're right, on the harder modes..its just not possible to beat, its just always death lol. but devil mode makes it easier at least =)
If you find DMC3 hard, just replay the first mission over and over again. That gives you red orbs and for every replay, it just gets easier.
I would have to say that the hardest game i ever played was Armore Core 2 for the PS2 simply because my AC was so week that i couldn't get through one of the bosses for more than a week. I bought weapon after weapon and i just couldn't beat him. I was almost about to give up when i decided i would give it one last shot. I manage to win with extremely heavy armor and just by the slightest margin.
I would have to say that the hardest game is the original Devil May Cry even the normal mode is challenging for most players. Then the legendary dark knight mode gets progressively harder but anything beyond that is just impossible to beat unless you acquire all the power-ups and items in your first time through the game. I'd have to say if anyone actually got through all levels of DMC they would have to be the ultimate gamer, and have extreme patience.
I would have to agree with the armored core games to because if you don't have a well built AC in those games, any enemy raven you try to face will wipe the floor with you. And most of the time you don't even know the advantages they have like speed or firepower so if you build a heavy AC and they are highly mobile you are probably finished. It’s a hard game but it is supposed to employ the use of extreme strategy to win.

The hardest game ever?
well thats FF VII dirge of cerberus ( well can you aim well when the monsters are in front of you and u're still fixing your camera? believe that's mean instant death...)
n forbidden siren (a scariest game that i have ever played...)because the puzzle is very very....hard to deal it...

When I think about it, I have no idea how I beat NES games years ago. Whenever I play the games again, I start thinking, "I beat this before?" Anyway, the early Megamans were infuriating until you memorized the moving platforms and bosses. Contra is still as hard as it ever was, even with the Konami code in play. And then there's Super Ghouls and Ghosts for the SNES, which is clearly at the top of my list of difficult games.
Super Mario Bros 3, as of today i found it very hard to cross over world 7 without using the magic wistle (cheater!)

Lets see my hardest game to play was Diablo II on nightmare. once you die your screwed, the only problem i had with that game was not rushing through it. i mean i rush through a lot of games like crazy, because i like to feel the joy of finsihing something. so i would get to like half of the story through diablo, then i would forget to buy better equipment then i get screwed. yea that was my biggest problem oh and cant forget i always forget to restock on potions so its like im committing suicide in diablo II.
My... it seems people here didn't experiment the torture from old school games. Not saying that stuff like Ninja Gaiden Black isn't hard, but there are other pain in the asses, in the story of videogames:
-Contra: Yes, all the Contras are probably the hardest shooting action games EVER. Just trying to remember how much I suffered trying to beat Contra i: The Alien Wars in the Hard difficult grade brings me back awesomely disturbing memories (the final boss, if you don't know its patterns, is IMPOSSIBLE). Oh, and the first Contra for PS2 seems to follow the same "ways". I haven't played it, but I'll do it when I can.
-Ninja Gaiden: No, I'm not contradicting myself, because I'm referring to the old NES games. Seriously, have you tried beating them? If someone can do it without losing his/her mind, please tell me. Only NG game I was able to beat without using continues was Ninja Gaiden i (the easiest of them, though it's still broken as hell), Ninja Gaiden I was hard just because of its weird controls, and Ninja Gaiden II... I wanna cry.
I'll add more later ^^
