This is a great effort for a first wall.
Some comment:
1. the scan is a little too blurry, and I can still some jagged edges (particularly on the left). Take not that the logo also needs better extracting (I can see white unclean bits)
2. the idea is not bad, but there are way too many feathers.
3. This is personal, but I don't really like the font used.
Keep working on it =D I really like this picture of Hughes ^^

Hey there A.L.,
:)
I love the series, and this is a pretty neat idea for a wall. I do tend to agree about the too many feathers. As to the font, it would be so cool if you had the same font as that in title (admittedly I have no idea where to get it) with a bit of slant to it. Also, Have you considered playing around with applying a soft blur to parts of the image? Possibly using different layers in setting it up?
My two bits, anywho have fun and keep up the good work.

So do people think I should take out the feathers altogether or just reduce the number of them? Also I would appreciate any tips on extraction techniques and clean up and on how to remedy the problem with it being blurry.
Thanks

Hey there A.L.,
Just cut down on the number of feathers by oh 20-30%. There are some tutorials on extractions out there. No urls come to mind at the moment. (Gomen Nasaii! *Grovel grovel*) One thing I use, that I don't remember who I picked it up from, is to makea new layer and flood fill it with a garish neon-bright color, and move it behind the layer you're working with. The promoted background/layer that is. That way you can see what ya have and what ya don't. Hmmm sounds like a quote or a paraphrase there.
Anywho, starting to ramble. So have fun and enjoy.

Thanks for the great advice, I'll try it out and hopefully make an even better wall.
I often just zoom in +++ and erase it bit by bit. Another method you can try is entering quick mask (the button under where you choose your colours, just in case you don't know) and then select the bits you want to cut out. The making new layer and move it behind the layer you're working with is a great idea too, although I wouldn't use neon-bright color because it might kill your eyes XD.
I'm looking forward to seeing an updated version ^^

The scan is of terrible quality >_<
It'll be hard to fix if you don't know how to vector, so I suggest you get a better one. The extraction is very bad too... by the way...
As for the feathers, it's not a matter of number, the feathers look all the same, like a pattern. If you want to make an effect like the feathers are flying, scattered everywhere, you'll have to use your imagination a little more.
Also, I don't know what's in the background... >_> Wings? The sparkles are weird, I don't know, and those clouds, are they clouds? The colors don't quite match.
I hope that helps, good luck
