alot of people are saying she could have been a key character but how? O_o i really do not see that at all... maybe a character lulu cares deeply about but as for big in his plot i cannot see it... she cannot pilot knightmares like kallen... she doesn't have any special abilities like C.C... shes so simpleminded shes not looking at the bigger picture at all O_O
Yeah I agree with you on the fact that Shirley is an annoying useless character. The main reason for her existence isnt because she a great person. Its because Lelouch cares about her. And her death is another major step to the evolution of Lelouch and Zero. Shes a pawn in the greater matter of things. Therefore, she was kinda a vital character in a way. I guess its Lelouch's karma hitting him over and over. Euphy died, Nunally is a pawn of the other side, Kallen is kidnapped, and Shirley is dead. Every girl he cares about ends up leaving him because its his karma coming back for killing so many people.
Its all coming back to the first episode of season 1 when lulu made the contact with C.C that he will live a very very lonely life at the price of the geass ><

I've gotten over the fact that Shirley died (even though it was HUGE shock).. And yes she was more the kind of character that was there more for filler episodes and such and mostly because Lulu cares about her..

Wuwuw.....Shirley...why want to let her died...i feel not worth to her...i like her,may her rest in peace and hope Lelouch can find out the murderer as soon as possible and take revenge for her!

It was a surprise when she got shot, but there might have been some foreshadowing of a return with her last words. Only time will tell.

Lelouch is probably going to kill Rolo in the next few episodes.
Villetta noted how he seems like a loose cannon in the fact that he'll kill people even when she tells him not to. Lelouch somewhat brought him under control with his influence, but now that Jeremiah can cancel out Geass powers, he can stop Rolo from using his Geass to kill more people. i think the way they killed of Shirley was terrible. She loved Lelouch regardless of whether she knew he was Zero or not, and they had "officially" become a couple.
The interesting thing is to see if Lelouch can keep his cool or will he be blinded by rage and make a mistake like he did at the end of season 1. That mistake cost him Nunally. Perhaps this one could cost him Kallen if he's not smart about what he does now. I hope Jeremiah gets a knightmare to pilot because that would be sweet. Also an interesting plot twist is that Cornelia has found out about the Geass. So it will be interesting to see what she will do in the future.

Poor Lulu! I felt for him, I really did.
I still feel bad for Lelouch :(, but at the same time he's in a war. People suffer casualties in war, many people lost loved ones, Suzaku lost Euphie, etc etc. So although he feels terrible about Shirley's death, hopefully he realizes that this is going to be part of what he is going to have to go through if he is to take down Britania. I don't want to see Lelouch get a Light Yagami ending :X, but at the same time I don't want it to be an anime where he wins and everything is all happy with no strings attached.

Well I suppose some of have watched ep 14, and this thing g0dchild said has something to do with this episode. AND OMG! if Kallen switch side, this is going to get more sad and messy.
Now Susaku has a full corrupted heart, with anger and ambicious for the change just like Lelouch.
Shirley's dead was one of the few things I just didnt expected to come...

Shirley's death was unexpected for sure, but it'll be useful if you think that it means Rolos death as well... i can't stand the kid ¬¬
on the other side the idea of nunnaly dying is making me feel that now we can't have a "nice" ending... unless she's not dead, it's hard to believe but i think that's still possible, and somehow expected, her death would be the destruction of all hope for lelouch... the good thing about it would be the unexpected development of the series... XD

I must admit, Shirley's death is one of the most touching scenes in Code Geass. She might not have been the most important character in the show, but she played a vital part for Lelouch himself.
Shirley was truly, irrevocably in love with Lelouch. No matter what he did or said, she'd forgive him because that's how much she loved him. Some might find it quite dumb that she forgave Lelouch that quickly for her father's death, but I find it touching. Even when her memories were erased, she was in love with him. I adored how she would always find a way to love him at the end of the day, and their relationship was cute, even though it was a little one-sided. Shirley never gave up on Lelouch either.
What I found the saddest was when Lelouch kept trying to use the live geass on Shirley. This death definitely touched him more than any previous death did.
