I have heard that the name of the weapon is retrieved from mythology of Europe. However, there is another opinion that the name spoken in the animation is an abbreviation describing the behaviour of the weapon. Therefore, I want to ask for some explanation for the name of Nina's destructive weapon.
Well I believe the official acronym i think is F.L.E.I.A in translation in romanized japanese it becomes FU-RE-YA = may also translate to Freia or Freya the goddess of love in norse mythology. Basically it's like a nuclear atomic bomb, but in the geass world, it is composed of the highly dangerous material, Sakuradite.

As the above post mentioned, Freya was the goddess of "fertility" (not love) in norse mythology. Code geass has also touched on many aspects of norse mythology. 'Akasha', a sword...; the 'Valkyrie' squad, valkyrie refers to the battle maiden who takes the souls of the dead to fight for the gods; and 'Ragnarok' the final battle between the gods of Aesir and Vanir, suprisingly the final battle in which the gods were to be destroyed (like code Geass).
Back to topic, the irony here is Freya is the goddess of fertility, yet the weapon destroys life... isnt that beautiful.

Uhhh i beg your pardon, but Freya/Freyja/Freia IS considered as the goddess of Love and beauty as well as fertility. She is considered as a counterpart to the Greek's Aphrodite and Roman's Venus. Please do not confuse her with Frey who is the principal god for fertility and agriculture. Also in Norse mythology, Frigg is considered as the main goddess of fertility and is the one often called to help and assist with childbirth.
Code Geass obviously makes references to not only norse mythology but to celtic folklore as well.
Anyway lemme correct myself, just took a look over that episode and apparently the actual spelling is F.L.E.I.J.A but the acronym however stands for Field Limitary Effective Implosion Armament. Hmmm weird.
