Maple story, as a word of caution, is filled with hackers, botters, bad mannered children, and any combination of the above words. Im not saying that everyone is, but a vast majority of the population is, or at least used to. There is also number of free mmo's with better graphics and a better community that are also 2d scrollers.
edit: Not trying to hijack your thread, i used to play in the beta, and after trying to get back into it after a few years, i was spammed with, GIMME MESO!!, or GIMME ITEMS!, and even more botters then there used to be. Major turn off, for me at least.

Terrible game. Horrible graphics, attrocious gameplay, hackers, kill stealers, item hoggers, there isn't anything Maple Story did right. Rappelz or Flyff maybe, idk I play Rappelz, but MS *shutter* I picked that game up for an hour and had to un-install it after that. What a poor poor game.

LOL! The only fun in MS is making a new char and getting it to like level 20... after that it's major grind for life. I have, super sadly, a level 43 Ice Wiz and omg it would take me all day playing to get to fricken 50% through my level. That's if I didn't die. Dying takes away a big chunk of exp and since you never get ANY exp lol it sucks so much to die. Yes the MS community is chock full of h4x0rz and rude children. Not a great community at all. No one is willing to help you and KSing is the worst. You have to find a spot to grind then some people come in and steal your spot and you just wanna PK them (which you cant) or kill yourself (in real life lol). There is a bunch of other, better, more in depth, free MMORPGs (and non RPGs) out there that you can waste time on. Please do. I know from experiance. MS was my first MMORPG so I was in love, then I tried other things and they are so much better. If you are curious about other ones just let me know, I can give some advice, or at least try.
I play! I'm a level 72 Dragon Knight, however saying they're missing out on something great might not always be true. Even the most faithful players limits were stretched a few months back with sudden influxes of hackers (script kiddies) but some versions of maplestory have mature communities, not everyone is a 7 year old immature kid but the game is inself very addicting :)
I use to play maple, and i enjoy it a few months then i was stuck in some level and then kill creeps do boring, but i can say that is a fun game and the performance of the characters are nice.
And have a Anime Version named Maple Story ,now are on the episode 2 =D

I playing maplesea a lvl 55 cleric
it seem like there is no where to train

I used to play, got to L23 and gave up, just became too hard to level up... Theres other games out there, wait for Dragonball Online when it comes out in 2008 :D

I agree with most of the people in this game by calling Maple Story a sucky game. Anyone who supports it is just a fanboy/fangirl, since this game is so horrid and boring. The "anime" graphics aren't even that good, the idea of a scroller RPG is kind of good, but poorly executed, the grinding is excessive, and the lack of original quests gives this the finishing blow. Point is, stay away from the game, there are better options nowadays.

Yeah, all you do is grind, grind, and grind. It is actually fun until you get to about lvl 50 (max lvl is 200) then you really have nothing to do, as leveling from there takes up to 6 hours. I had a lvl 51 hunter and finally gave up. Play Hellgate: London instead ^^.
