Voice Acting In Games
With games becoming more and more fashionable, coupled with the massive industry that it is and the technological improvemnets being made, what have you made of the various voice acting in games over the years? Does it add anything to a game to hear a well known voice, or even lesser known, to the characters portrayed in the game? In what games, and instances, has voice acting worked, or not? Would you prefer a hark back to older games with the text being said, just on the screen and voiceless?
As with english dubbed anime, I'm not too fond of english dubbed games. I love playing a game and hearing the original seiyuu for that game, and then recognizing them from elsewhere (ie Solid Snake is same seiyuu as Batou from GitS). So I do like games with voice acting, but I prefer to hear it in it's original language of Japanese. With game disc capacity getting bigger soon (with Blu-Ray and maybe HD-games), I'd like to see more games with dual language options. Game dubbing isn't quite so bad as anime dubbing though, and it's not expected to be quite as good either, so there's some leniency there. Overall though, I don't mind games with voice acting. While most (english) voice acting in games is kind of cheesey, it's the gems (like Working Designs) that more than make up for it.
Voice sure brings another feeling, or to say kind of movement, to players.
I love seiyuus' works, but also thinks the English voice actors did quite well in some games - like in KH, MGS2, Resident Evil series, etc.

Game dubbing isn't all that bad (compared to some anime english-dubbed shows out there. Everytime I hear one, especially Naruto on Cartoon Network, I kinda want to smash the tv).
Anyway, back to the topic, I really don't have too much of a problem of voice acting in video games. They actually do a pretty decent job portraying emotion in their voice and making it feel like pretty realistic in the situation they are in.
As for who should voice act, I think they should keep it as it is and not get popular voices (aka celebrities) to do the voice acting. Let's just say the video game industry will just then slowly turn into another pitiful market for celebrities.

I don't really mind voices in video games, I think it makes it easier on you, since you don't have to read the text on the screen, and just listen to them, while enjoying the awesome graphics in the game. But, if the voices suck, then that's going to be a problem, it's hard to enjoy a game when the voices of certain characters are so annoying, somebody like Tidus from Final Fantasy X is a good example, his voice was quite annoying to hear, or some voice that sounds like they are just reading off the script and not really putting any emotion into it, that is annoying as well.
To put it simply, I don't mind voice acting in video games, but if it's going to suck, just leave it out of the game.

I love it.

I think voice acting is pretty good gives you a feel of how the character might be and tells you more about them a little.. however in my opinion english voiced acted games suck >_> they have like no emotion to what they're saying in most of the games, its like a robot on speech.. yet the jap ones have like much more emphasis and stuff if any of you realized it
Voice Acting is definitely the way to go. The worst I've seen was Baten Kaitos yet, I would much rather have it than walls of text.
And speaking of VA's, the new zelda should have Link talking (real talk not grunts). It would be awesome fanservice on Nintendo's part.

I didn't mind the SO3 voices that much, though some of the voices were horrible.
love it.
it amps up the game
Ditto. Just try playing GTA: San Andreas with and without speech. Really adds to the atmosphere when well done. Of course, badly done voice-acting is the same as 'muted game.' :D
Voice acting in VG, in this generation, improved greatly.
Just see the case of the guy that dubs Sam Fischer in Splinter Cell or the entire cast that made the voices of the Metal Gear Solid series.
Probably the voices weren't that good before, because this industry wasn't seen very seriously. Now, even those kind of details have to be taken in consideration.
