This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

I don't know if I am a hardcore otaku, I mean, I spend a great deal of every day watching anime. Have watched a ton of anime, download about a gig a night or more of new and old animes; and engulf myself in it in every way that I can except reading tons upon tons of manga. Don't get me wrong, I love manga, but I watch too much anime to have time to read much of it. I have a lot of it downloaded, but getting to reading it is another matter. Constantly, well every 2 months at most, I have to buy another 500gig hard drive. lol, proly too much, but oh well, it is necessary to archive all of my anime without burning it to DVD, since I am waiting for Blue-Ray to get cheaper over here in the States.

I don't go buy anime figures, read tons of manga, or cosplay though. So, if that makes me non-otaku, then w00t, if I am still otaku due to my crazy-mad watching/downloading of anime, then that is all right as well. I enjoy Japan, and anime equally though; and do not only like Japan because of anime. There are many, many things I like about Nihon, so much so in fact that I spend about as much time watching anime as I do dreaming about moving there. rofl, oh well, that is life. I do plan to go there someday though ^^ Proly live there if I like it enough, which is a possibility.

I think people here in the States are too 'open' about calling themselves an otaku, like someone prior said, "don't go to Japan and start telling people you are an otaku. You'll just get people looking at you as someone who is weird."

That is very true.

I try to find a good balance as well, and it can be done using anime as well. For example, if you watch an anime where the people in it drink a lot of tea, and you become interested in tea culture of the east. You can look into it and find a ton of new info that you may have not know existed; thus finding a new area of intrest/study. Or if you look into seiza, you can find out a lot about that subject as well, which in turn leads to other interesting subjects. There are many ways to utilize watching anime, and making even more hobbies out of it. There is so much more in anime that is not ever really looked up by anyone, except the fan-subbing people mostly. You can feel like you are getting closer to your wanted anime/Japan lifestyle; and be learning some interesting things at the same time. Keep you eye out for these types of things in anime. It'll also help you learn more about Japan, and be able to discern what real Japan is like, and what is simply just placed in anime for enjoyment. I personally, have learned a lot this way, however, it is not the only way to go about it of course. It's all in what you wanna do.

Can't say that I'm an otaku, I do like watching anime though, but it didn't become the sense of my life. I prefer watching only good anime. And by this I mean anime aeries that do not contradict common sense, as I understand it. All the other ones do not give me any pleasure from watching them, on the contrary I can't stand all that dullness that can easily spoil anime of any plot and graphics quality. But I don't see anything bad in being an otaku. It just means that a person has smth valuable in his/her life. One just should know the limits for their obsession. If it, for example, makes them spend ALL the money on anime related stuff then it becomes dangerous, and psychological help is needed. Think at least that if you buy smth to eat then soon you will be completely indifferent to anime and everything else, you won't even be, so to say.

Otaku is who love anime and manga...

"Main Entry: otaku
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: an avid collector or enthusiast, esp. one who is obsessed anime, video games, or computer and rarely leaves home"
-Dictionary.com

It is especially labled as someone who is into anime/videogames/or the computer. It is not ONLY an individual who enjoys anime/manga ;)

Good I do not consider myself to be an otaku it is not for the meaning of the word, if not that am I like mas the images of these series but I do not see so much encourage as others .An otaku is known out of Japan as a fanatic by taste marked enough for encourage or sleeve. In his country of origin, the meaning is nearer to the definition of friki, person who withdraws on yes same and a singer lives only for an interest, as the computers, cars or models to scale. This Japanese term(end) has gone on to West with the meaning of " made keen to the manga ". In Japan the term generally is contemptuous, though recently, in the same way as geek, some Japanese use it proudly. In West it can have so much negative as positive connotations, depending on the community where it is in use.One of the major representatives of this movement in Latin-American countries like Chile is Captures Iturriera, young man(woman) who has the major collection of movies of encourage.
