Of Cars, Beer and Women
First of all, this is not an advertising thread --> Some might be led to think so by the description of the topic ^.^
It's something I have often wondered about, but I couldn't find a definite answer to it. Every time I see a new car model being introduced on the television/news and other media, most of the producers tend to hire beautiful/sexy models to help advertise the car. It's the same case with beers (I see many posters with beautiful ladies on them).
Why is it that I rarely see male models being the ones to publicize the products mentioned above? Is it because the male population are generally the ones who spend more money on cars and beers, or is it because of another reason? I would like to hear your thoughts on this~
P.S: Don't start a flaming war between genders in here *.*

Obviously
I've seen some commercials with males, but cars and beer are mainly for men, so the dudes who make those commercials use females to attract males
only natural that it'll cause more notice. I mean, what male wouldn't notice a beautiful girl

Agreed, that would seems to be the cause why beer and cars(dunno about cars) use women for advertisement. As males are more interested in them females(again, not all)

Agree with the others. They are narrowing their targets to male consumers, which are more likely to spend money on cars and beer.
I absolutely hate it when the media try to pit girls with cars together to make cars look better. Not that I'm saying girls shouldn't drive cars, but to try to spruce things up, show off, look better, or even advertise sickens me the same way people install useless, huge stereos in their car that only weigh their cars down and waste the car's power. To me, to do stuff like that is just showing off and to me doesn't make it feel as if the car's fulfilling what it was designed to do.

Well they gotta make some cash, it's business.

Sex sells, end of discussion.

The audience that the company aim it product for is probably for males. they have to put something in the commercial to capture something of interest to their target. what can be more appealing than a beautiful chic. plus, a beautiful chic and a car and beer...that is bonus.
Sex sells, as Spudsy said...I realised that before I posted this topic. What I want to know is why ? Do you think that the cars will sell as good if they used male models instead of females?
I personally think if you put a butt-naked girl in a Honda Civic TV ad it's not going to improve anything, at least as far as I'm concerned. All it does is it tries to give the car a new image, one of which could be the advertisers are trying to say "girls like this car" or "this car looks like a girl so it goes well with one" or something along the lines of that.
I just think using women as a marketing tool is kind of abusing it a little, don't ya think? I mean, I'm sure you wouldn't use men to sell make-up, or use women to sell mens shorts or something, but in those cases it's used in the right context; but when the thing being sold is an "in-between sexes" kind of thing, like cars, I don't think ads should do that.
Plus, if people are lured in by sex appeal, how intelligent of beings are we? If a crappy car manufacturer used women to sell cars and sales went up because of that ad, I'd start to question the IQ level of the people who bought them - they're just getting tricked. It's like buying instant noodles advertised by anime; those foods or nothing but cholesterol; people are just getting tricked once again. After writing this, I start to wonder how many of the things I've bought were bought because I got tricked...

I do see men in publicity directed to male audience, but they're usually not some random guy, maybe a sport figure or an actor, or even male models for perfume advertisements. There are some advertisements directed at the beer-cars-and-women type of men and others may have a woman in it 'cause they look good.
Personally I don't care about cars, I prefer cider and only care for one woman, cursed though I am for doing so... but if I had to guess I'd say it depends on the car being sold, if it's a big meaty one that testosterone filled blokes will want then women it is, if it's a more effeminate car or more unisex then it may include both man and women or just the one.

Actually when you put a scantily clad woman in an expensive car they usually have leather seats and I think how that's going to feel getting up after a while.
Anyways, you mentioned that males are not often used, and to that my theory is that males are still paid more than women, in America atleat, I dunno about the economics of other countries. So the thought process is males have more money to spend than females, so try to advertise to the male demographic, and as for why sex sells... well maybe they see the attractive person and think hay attractive people use this and I want to be attractive, or it could be that they think they will be able to have relations with someone as attractive if they get that product.

'Cause women are objects of pleasure in society.

Excellent point ^^ the fact is adverts aimed at men feature sexy women, on the idea that men will see a sexy girl on top of a beer/car and think "Hey if I switch to that brand/model I'm gonna be surrounded by loadsa hot chicks!" Which is worrying... It also stimulates their senses and helps them to take notice, men are less frequently used presumably because they don't have quite the same effect on women... not sure about that though... just my opinion

bye bro!
