Haze

Oh wow, first time I've made a topic here at AP.
Alright, Haze. It's a first-person shooter from Free Radical, the fun loving people who brought us Time Splitters, that is going to be set in a very serious tone. Haze is going to feature an online co-op, which is something I think more games should do. If anyone would like to learn more about the game, they can visit here.
That aside, they just released the demo of it on the PS3 market. I played it and I absolutely loved it, but I'm curious as to what other people think about this soon to be released game. Keep in mind that I would prefer to keep this to people who have played the demo and are not basing this off of screenshots/videos, but anyone is welcome.

Roll on Tuesday. Looking quite forward to playing this game now and the official theme song KoRn have written for this game has really grown on me too.
At first, I had my doubts to whether a company which seemed to only excel in humour could actually pull off something as serious as this game sounded like it was going to be. I knew they had the skills to pull off a high-quality FPS but a serious thought-invoking one? Raised a couple of eyebrows over here. But after giving Second Sight a quick playthrough and reading up on that, I think I'm more interested in this game. Then again the huge delay before this really dampened my hype. =P

Well I thought it was interesting but it seemed like you had to use the nectar to see anything at all, which kind of irritated me, the other thing I wanted to try/see was using the nectar to cause other soldiers to go berserk, instead of watching my ally go nuts and shoot me.
Other than that the graphics were very nice, guns felt nice with a recoil but not enough of a recoil to where I'm aiming, fire, oh great where am I now? recoil.
A.I. on your allies is not too bad since they do seem to kill things but they also don't seem to care if you run out with a target on your back.
Overall it could be a fun game with some interesting points, so to me it looks like it could be interesting but if not done right, could just get old fast.

I agree as well. Considering the environment that the demo took place it and the distance of the enemies, it was rather difficult to spot them. I was playing split-screen too, but it seemed that they sure as hell had no issues finding me. I still can't stress enough how cool the use of online co-op is and I'm glad they kept an offline co-op as well. Was a bit scared when I couldn't find it at first, but thankfully after a bit of fooling around it was located.
So far, I'm liking the story, or rather what little is introduced. Controls aren't too shabby either. Not fond of the concept of stealing nectar from other players for yourself, mainly cause I could see someone who didn't know what they were doing just taking it from me without asking. Overall, I think the game has a great deal of potential and I am definitely getting it for the PS3 now. It'd have to do a lot to flop, in my mind.

I played the demo and I wasn't that impressed. Pass.
Now I've played the demo, I can give out a fair detailed review on it.
First all, let's pick on the positives. Nectar is a great idea, at first I thought it was some cheap tacked-on gimmick but after a couple of minutes you begin to really rely on it and I thought it was a clever idea seeing as it's meant to reflect that on the storyline too. Guns were fairly balanced but that was to be expected of Free Radical, the Lobo would have to be my personal favorite so far due to the firepower you can feel behind it. To sum it up really (as I'm too lazy to think of more), the game was fun.
But to be nit-picky, these are my problems.
#1 - Main character is weak. I didn't feel like he was 'powerful' enough for a FPS main character. Personally, not sure about everyone else, when you play a FPS you want your character to be a badass. Not a guy who has an orgasm over military upgrades in the midst of battle.
#2 - First person cutscenes are corny. It just feels like they're trying to hard to put you in his shoes when they do it. It works for Half-Life 2 because Gordon doesn't speak so you have your own reactions and you're fully able to 'become' Gordon if you wish. When you have a character with a personality and his own mind then FP-viewing in cutscene just feels like "Eh? What the heck?"
#3 - Graphically not amazing. It just felt very dull. Like Yahztee said, most next-gen games seem to feel like they're gun-metal gray or sh*t brown. Most of the time it feels like a mixture of both which is somewhat depressing. Though I have been told this demo is from last year's build so I'm hoping for a change for the final version.
Otherwise that's my thoughts on it so far.

Would you mind evaluating a bit more of what you weren't impressed about? It's fine that you didn't like it, but I'm more of curious as to what you didn't like about the game.

Would make sense why some things functioned the way that they did. Indeed, there was quite a bit of corn with the dialogue. It is very difficult to get into a character that already has a set personality, rather than the player forming one. Judging by what they've released, I assume that they'll be sticking with it unless they decide to take a complete 180. Still, I can get behind a certain character, sometimes..
Haze is scheduled to hit stores here pretty soon! As soon I pick up the full version, I'll be sure to let you all know what I think without spoiling the game.

Well, if he develops more of a macho-personality at least a quarter of the way through the game then I can probably get behind him. Just seems a bit girly at the moment, I can't get behind a character when I'm thinking in the back of my mind "I bet he gets a kick off this every time I use Nectar >_>". I'm curious to see what the final build is like either way.
Now we party Korn style.

Yeah, for some reason i wanna say that i didnt like the demo. i just didnt feel hooked on to it. i had a hard time seeing people in the game and i didnt fully understand the full mechanics of the nectar. but i did play it at like 2am right before going to bed, so maybe my review isnt valid. ill try it out again.
btw, if anyone buys the full game, let us know how the real game is

I was never that big of a fan of shooters, I have played some like Gears Of War, Halo and such.
Haze seemed very generic and really didn't seem to add anything really new. The people were very hard to see unless you were juiced up. I'm probably just biased.

Man, seeing all of these reviews makes me a bit worried. I was actually excited about Haze, and although I'm a huge Halo fan, I was hoping this was another shooter that I could get into.

Well, after playing the demo and noticing that all the faults I disliked the game for are the major elements the critics picked on as well has put me off purchasing this game. I may rent it later on down the line for multiplayer reasons but otherwise I'm really not going to shell out 40 bucks for this. Which is a shame because I wasn't expecting Free Radical to mess up as they did here.

I have the game the graphics seem to be average for a PS3 game but the story was well written in my opinion and the Multi-player is different. For example the Team Objectives is one of my Favorites because you have to work as a team to solve the problem at had but that is only my two cents
