E3 2008
5 months 3 weeks ago
I noticed that E3 has ended, and I find it funny that there isn't a topic to discuss it, so here it is a topic to discuss E3. Talk about games, press conferences, and new add-ons.
Personally I'm very excited about the new games that are coming out. One of the my favorites is Fallout 3. The graphics and controls look like they are going to be really good and the VATS system adds some strategy to the game. Although what I'm really looking forward to is how you'll affect the story, as that is definitely one of the more important parts of a game like Fallout 3.
Another game that's coming out that I'm really interested in is Fable 2. The first Fable while good left a lot to be desired, in my personal opinion. The new combat system seems like it will be fun and the co-op option is definitely going to be interesting(Although I guess I should let you know that if you find me your world won't be such a happy place.
)
Spore has also got me interested. I haven't really tried out the creature creator but it does seem interesting, and having it be made by Will Wright is also a plus.
I'm also interested in Street fighter 4. It has been a while since I've played a new street fighter game and this one definitely looks like it's going to be fun.
And then there's infamous and Resident Evil 5 which are definitely looking good. infamous seems like it will be something new while Resident Evil 5 seems like it's set to continue with the awesome revamp of a classic series.
And then there's one that really gets me going, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It seems like it'll be awesome, and for all of the Star Wars fans we'll be able to see what the force is really capable of.
As for press conferences I guess the one that made the biggest impact on me was Microsoft's. They are really playing hard ball to beat the PS3 and Wii. They've now got square-enix on there side and are quickly taking away all of the PS3's exclusives. The avatar update for Xbox live looks like it will be nice to.
Any way all in all, I thought it was an ok E3, not as big as the others but still quite nice, though I hope next years E3 will be even better.

E3 was massively disappointing. It only helped prove to me how bad economy wise the industry is right now. There is absolutely not a single title worth my money at that E3, and theme of "more series-based games" only helped to prove to me the all time low the game industry is at right now. Nothing original is coming out and nothing worth waiting for has been announced. The 2008-2009 Fiscal Year is going to be probably the worst the industry will have ever faced, and it is going to be painfully slow, annoying, and boring.

Yeah, I haven't been following video games too closely recently. Something to do with not having much money and no system really "doing" it for me (I'd jump at a KH3+FFXi combo though!). <It seems to not like my shorthand for "final fantasy 13">
The only reason I even have cared about E3 at all recently (read: today) is the large number of webcomics (read: CAD and VGcats) devoted to complaining about Nintendo. What exactly did Nintendo do at E3 that are getting people worked up?

Lolzz i am also waiting for Fable 2.Seemed like a great game and i really wanna play ahead.
Alrgiht heres what happened at E3 for those who dont know
Microsoft
Microsoft released demos for Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Fable II, and Resident Evil 5, among other games. Though not all demos are for download on Xbox Marketplace, new trailers for them have been added. Also, an Xbox 360 dashboard update scheduled for fall 2008, with a new user interface and avatar system, was previewed. Additional television and movie content from NBC Universal and other providers was announced for Xbox Live, including support for Netflix instant-watch titles. A television-style gaming feature known as Primetime was shown with a game based on the game show 1 vs. 100 shown as an example, there were also hints at a "Big Brother" type game and also a "Deal or no Deal" one. Final Fantasy Xi was also announced to be released for Xbox 360.
Nintendo
Wii MotionPlus was announced by Nintendo on July 14, 2008. It connects with the expansion port at the bottom of the Wii Remote to boost its precision, and can render every movement in the wrist or arm to allow for a real-time response in gameplay when used in conjunction with the Sensor Bar and the Wii Remote's built-in functionality.[3][4] A demo for Wii Music was unveiled on July 15, revealing support for the Wii Balance Board, as well as the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The WiiSpeak peripheral was also introduced, a microphone device that will allow remote communication between players that will debut with one of the announced games, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and be compatible with The Conduit, both games for the Wii.[5] Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was announced alongside Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades and details on Spore Creatures, all games for the Nintendo DS. A sequel for Wii Sports, titled Wii Sports Resort, was revealed to be in development and to be released next spring. At a private roundtable conference, development of a new Pikmin game was confirmed.
Sony
Sony started its E3 presentation with a demo of Resistance 2. Details about an updated PlayStation Network were also released. These included Life With PlayStation and a new video download service which allows users to buy or rent movies from a large selection of movie publishers including Sony Pictures, Lionsgate, Warner Bros, Fox Home Entertainment, Disney, and MGM. Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest For Booty was trailed, the sequel to Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and a downloadable title from PSN. Brief trailers of God of War i and other games were shown for the system. Sony announced the restart of the "Greatest Hits" list of games, releasing titles with high sales performances such as Assassin's Creed, Fight Night, Resistance: Fall of Man and more for $30 U.S. Other new titles were revealed including Resistance: Retribution for the PSP and Massive Action Game for the PS3. Sony also revealed they will be releasing a PSP bundle pack that will include an Ice Silver PSP Slim and Lite, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, National Treasure 2 on UMD, a voucher for Echochrome, and a 1GB Memory Stick Duo. Sony also announced an 80GB version of the PlayStation 3 is to be released for PAL and NTSC regions in August 2008, for the same price as the current 40GB model.
-From Wikipedia knew it myself too but too lazy to write it all down :P

IMHO this yrs E3 did have some quite a few awesome things such as Fable 2,Resistance Fall of Man and well the 80 GB Pw3 for PAL and NTSC regions. The nintendo was just normal and the Microsoft section was quite amazing too.But still i wish they hadnt made E3 so "classified" to the normal people. It was just a journalist go invitations >_< it would have been more fun and more info if all the people were invited.

I though this year E3 was pretty impressive.

The best thing about this year E3 surprised me was Microsoft Xbox 360 because the announcement of Final Fantasy Xi made me shocked when i thought this was only come out on Playstation 3 only.

In terms of games and things released yes.In terms of more pics and fun NO as it was only for journalist's who were invited

Agreed.Even i didnt think that they would make a PS exclusive for the 360.Atleast they got some sense. Now their sales are gonna boost like double or so i think.A good strategy i would say

The micorsoft press conference was excellent because the new xbox 360 dashboard will look even better and get access more features and that game called Lips looks really similar to Singstar on Playstation 3.

E3 was horrible. I'm genuinely surprised anyone here actually enjoyed it. It was the worst one they've ever held. Microsoft's conference was an embarassment, Nintendo's somehow topped that and Sony's was the most disappointing thing I've ever seen.
As for the ongoing PS3 vs 360 'war', they're both pretty much the same console what with all the multiplatform games now. 360 has Halo and Gears of War whilst PS3 has Resistance, God of War and Killzone. A few exclusives split the two but that's about it, just a matter of what exclusives interest you more and how much money you have to spend.

E3 really disappointed me for one main reason. I watched it only to see what the new game from Bungie (the creators of Halo) was gonna be but Microsoft stopped them from announcing it because it is rumored that it might out shine GOW2. That sucks.
It doesnt matter, cause they also announced that there would be a special event for the Halo annoucement.Thats even better =D

There is no new game of bof series (bof6). Why Capcom Why? T T
The biggest disappointment to me is the fact that HL2: Episode 3 wasn't announced or talked about. I know the release is a ways off, but at least give us something to let us know that it is in fact in the works (other than Valve just saying that they are working on it). Ohh well, maybe this time next year.

bye bro!
