This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

Resident Evil 5 kicks off ten years later from the original Resident Evil and has infamous Resident Evil hero, Chris Redfield taking the helm as main character once more. This time around, Chris Redfield has joined a unit called B.S.A.A. (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) and has been sent to Africa to investigate the origins of the deadly T-Virus outbreak caused by Umbrella. Though Chris Redfield will not be fighting the infected hordes by himself, he will find a new partner in a woman called Sheva Alomar who is also an agent of B.S.A.A.'s West African branch but not only this, we have been told she plays an important role to the story as a mysterious incident in her past ties her strongly to the plot and the virus's beginnings.

Resident Evil 5 has been slated as a true sequel to the series unlike Resident Evil 4 which began the transition of change in the series. What does this mean? Well, expect events the return of Umbrella and hints to past games, past characters and some old faces. Also confirmed are playable flashbacks from past RE games and nifty new features like the power of light, for example if Chris spends too much time in the dark and steps outside, the camera will take a while to transition and adjust to the light just like your eyes realistically would. Producer Jun Takeuchi has also stated recently that with Chris Redfield returning to the main character position that an important part of the story will come to a close and one of the series's greatest mysteries will be solved. What does this mean? Is this the conclusion to everything Umbrella related? Is Albert Wesker finally going to meet his end?

What are your thoughts on the next true Resident Evil game? Are you excited by it all? Are you disappointed by its similarity to Resident Evil 4? What do you think is going to happen in terms of story? Discuss!
Honestly, I thought the series was dead after 4, and when I first saw a trailer for 5 I thought it was going to be the same as the previous one but with better graphics. It wasn't until I found out that it is linked to the story of the first ones that my hopes for this games increased, then after a few more trailers I'm already convinced that this is going to be great. I always had a problem with that tendency of the girl who doesn't have to get hurt and always gets in your way (RE4, SH2 & 4) but in this case she seems to actually be useful and have an important story. It looks highly entertaining with an interesting plot and nice action sequences. The gameplay of RE4 was fun and apparently it stays that way (with some improvements I expect) and the other thing I think will stay as in RE4 (unfortunately) is the puzzles, which weren't very elaborated (not elaborated at all to be more precise).

Yes, yes! The pre-rendered backgrounds were the best IMO! I mean just look what the Gamecube did with pre-rendered backgrounds for the Resident Evil remake! That game was simply as gorgeous as you could get IMO.

And I LOVED, LOVED Parasite Eve 1 and 2, and if there were more games in the series it would definitely be my favorite series of all time! I just loved the quasi RPG feel to the action.

Then there was Dino-Crisis, which IMO was really underrated! The part where you had to go underwater was so cool IMO.

And then there was Fear Effect 1 and 2, which was a whole lot of fun (if not a little hard due to the complex puzzles).

And then of course Onimusha 1 and 2, which was wonderful change of pace from all the gunplay in the RE series. And I think Onimushi 2 was the last time Capcom did an action game with pre-rendered backgrounds.

Now all my favorite series (including Final Fantasy) have moved on to the realm of the 3D. *tear* LOL. LONG LIVE THE PRE-RENDERED BACKGROUNDS! LOL.

Fair enough I do hope that Wii edition will come to light in a few years. Mind you I am looking forward to the Mercenaries minigame on RE5, I do hope HUNK makes a return appearence along with Wesker, and they'll have to have Chris and Sheva as well. The invertory system as well makes me think the Resident Outbreak invertory system. What has made me ponder as well is will there be female enemies like the Isabel and Maria Villagers of RE4, because they have been shown in the initial trailers but since then no female enemies have been seen in the trailers.

Every video that I have seen of RE5 looks amazing. I like the idea of having the ablility to switch characters on the fly. I however, who have loved it even more if it was Jill and not Shiva. If they are going to tie up a lot of loose ends about Chris' story, I at least hoped that Jill would have been a playable character. Hopefully what we have seen is just a small sample and Chris would be able to go to different places and be able to team up with different characters like Jill, Claire, and Rebecca.

They better do, I mean I only played Mercenaries for HUNK and Krauser in the last game and as I won't be getting any bow action this time then I would at least hope for my badass gas-masked man to make an appearance.

As for female enemies, I'm sure they'll be some. Even the Isabel and Maria enemies weren't shown in RE4 trailers, they're probably going to leave it hidden as a surprise kind of thing.

I would of preferred Jill as well but what with Umbrella Chronicles doing the Chris and Jill team-up they couldn't really do that tag-team again because it would feel very lazy. Past RE characters may make cameos but I don't think they'd be playable (that's not including the Mercenaries mode).

You are right about the female enemies, although Isabel and Maria made their first appearence in one of the trailers that you can see on the RE4 game itself and also on the Wii trailer in Japan. Infact Isabel is the only one who didn't make any appearences either in the RE4 cutscenes!

Even though I am going off the subject at hand I was disappointed with the Umbrella Chronicles as well as they didn't have RE2 or RE4 in the game.

HUNK was impressive in RE4 with his kicking move and neck breaker, so I guess that if he does come back Capcom will use them moves again.

There's new information regarding Resident Evil 5. Jun Takechi has said that the control system shown to the public at E3 will be given a drastic rehaul, such a drastic rehaul that it won't feel similar to RE4 at all. So for those who are fretting about RE5 feeling like RE4, well that should all be different by the time TGS rolls by hopefully.

Well, there's a rumour going around that Capcom are working on a RE2 remake for the Wii which shall play like RE4. As for HUNK, I would expect so. I don't see them putting much effort into revising moves.

I forgot to mention that in my first post I believe but yes, RE5 does indeed have online co-op and a cover system. My only worry is that it won't become another Gears of War copy. That game was fun and all but everything that includes guns seems to need to copy the cover system.

There's going to be a fifth one?!

Well, I think Capcom should take this opportunity to impress the pants off everyone. It's one of video game's most well-known series, so they should definitely try to step it up.

I wouldn't go quite that far. They haven't got the real need to impress anyone. The whole world was vastly impressed with Resident Evil 4 which is why there's a strong hype about Resident Evil 5. More of a case of that they need to keep in line with RE4's successes and strong points and correcting the weaknesses.

New information

- Jun Takeuchi has confirmed that the infamous Resident Evil contigent, the typewriter has officially been taken out of the game.

"Actually, I really like typewriters; they're really typical of the Resident Evil series. But this time, the save system will be a combination of checkpoints and chapters." - Jun Takeuchi

- Also we have one new official character announced and her relevance to the storyline outlined. Also one character we all knew was coming back. The new character is Excella Gione, who was seen briefly in the E3 trailer, a relative of the TriCell pharmaceutical founder and president of the Africa branch office. As for the not so new character, why it's of course the great Albert Wesker making his return. A screenshot of both characters can be found in the links below.

Thanks to Kotaku.com for the news!

Screenshots here.

Also more glorious gameplay screenshots here.

Yes, all us true Resident Evil fans will now bow our head and mourn the loss of such a beautiful machine. God bless the typewriter, you may be gone but you'll never be forgotten. ;_;

Wow, just wow. Fresh off the pan and straight from the kick off of the Tokyo Game Show (TGS to dweebs like me and you) we have a new and official story trailer for Resident Evil 5. All in English and showing quite a lot about the story for Resident Evil 5.

Who can we expect from this trailer? A Jill reference, a possible Spencer appearance, more Excella, more showings of the relationship between Sheva and Chris, information about Umbrella and last but certainly not least, a whole lotta of Wesker. Enjoy folks.

Amazing video here.
