The word "weeaboo"
I've been seeing this word a lot lately on other forums ( namely GameFAQs ) around some of the anime/anime-themed video game boards ( like BlazBlue ). And a poster commented on how his friend won't get BlazBlue because it's too "anime themed". Not only that, one of the posters managed to post this video.

And I gotta say, the majority of GameFAQ's loves to put down and hate on weeaboos, especially the one in this thread. So, fellow AP users, what are your opinions on the term "weeaboo" and a person that is one? In my opinion, I don't really mind them much since they do what they love to do, but at times I just hate it when they give anime a bad look and a bad name through their over-enthusiasm and over-exaggeration of their affection towards Japan and anime. So what're your thoughts? ( And no, I don't wish to start any flaming and whatnot ).

It's their life, their money and their time. People should respect others that are not making any harm with their preferences. However, exaggeration, as in any other hobby, makes you hit bottom with time (making anime a way to live isn't even logic, less healthy).
Fanaticism is a widespread phenomena. Not only to anime, but also to almost everything in the world (religions, book characters, role play games, and so forth). Modern society allow freedom of belief, so even the most exaggerated preferences towards a single topic shall be respected, no mater how extreme they are.
It's sad when a hobby becomes a lifetime 24:7 obsession, like the boy in the video (it's a boy, right?). However, putting it in a simplistic way, if he is happy being like that, there's nothing wrong with it. I believe it's sadder to see how intolerant people can be, focusing their energy in making efforts to make others life miserable, speaking with offensive words like the one you have mentioned.
Hate is an obsession of the same kind, and works in a much noxious way. Violence we see on Internet is only the tip of the iceberg, and if society don't change their mind and increase tolerance we'll see gangs hunting and punching "weaboos", emos or any other person that is different.

HAHAHAHAHA! That kid was made of serious otaku win!
Seriously, I love people like that, I think innocent, childish enthusiasm is a beautiful thing. There are many fake people in the world trying to impress and fit in with the societal norms, so you can very rarely get more sincere and honest than with these kids who latch onto our somewhat deviant subculture. People who have a problem with this sort of enthusiasm, I usually find, are at heart very insecure about themselves and their own image.
Of course, I can understand being a little annoyed at over-enthusiasm, it can be a bit grating sometimes hehehe... random glomps, badly spoken japanese, etc. But overall it's harmless fun with no ill intent, so it's cool, definitely different and more interesting than the status quo. It's the spice that makes life more interesting
!
The person in the vid is a girl and she's trolling. She wanted to create polemic about the otaku life style. Well, she demonstrated how awful people can be with others that are more care-free.
Dooohhhhhh
Hahaha is that so, huh, that's goofy! Strangely, her depiction isn't too far from the truth though, given some of the people I know from the various anime clubs and manga groups I've been involved with over the years. Looking again I guess I can sorta see the sarcasm in it...? Though I think it's strange anyone would buy all that merchandise and learn all those lyrics just to troll... unless she's just a generic anime fan making fun of the more over-enthusiastic kids out there.

I was shown that video a while back and I remember, I was frantically trying to hit Ctrl + W in Firefox. I did that again just now. Hate those people.
Well sorry to do that, Longbow. I was only curious to see what are other AP user's opinion on this D:
Woohoo, another GameFAQ-er.
As for the term itself, it depends really. There are some cases where I can understand the use of the word and can even say it myself like, for example, the girl in that video. She is just... urgh. But in most cases in which I see the word thrown around, especially on GameFAQ's, is when someone simply states that they love anime or they know a few words in Japanese. In those cases, I find the term somewhat ridiculous as they merely having a passing interest in Japanese culture possibly through anime or other means.
Now hardcore devotions to acting, talking and even LOOKING Japanese then yeah, definitely, the term is perfect. That is somewhat irritating to put it mildly, no need to try so hard to be something you're really not.

Oh? A fellow GameFAQs user? What's your username, dude? XD
Why did anyone believe this? Troll was obvious the moment I saw her watching anime on the TV. The audio was in english so there's no way someone who watches anime in english would have knowledge of the japanese words that she butchered the pronunciation of. Even a retard knows that chopsticks are to be held with one hand. It's still pretty funny though.

I died a little bit watching that video.
She makes us look bad. >_>
I'll take her shirt, though.

Well, I didn't saw the whole video (would be a torture), but given the fact it's a troll (and it's a girl
) I'd believe it could be offensive for real-life Otakus.
However, parodies should not be taken seriously, or more hate will rise from this. As RedZeshin said, people is free to be enthusiastic about a topic and express it freely (without interfering with others freedom). Of course it can be annoying, but in such cases is better to ignore rather than hate.

Well, you guys have some interesting opinions on this and remember, I didn't say I'm hating on anybody. I was only stating my own opinion on what I think about them is all lol. This thread must go on!!
Blazblue is a badass fighting game and you're friends lack of interest in it because of the 'anime theme', proves to me his lack of fighting spirit. I went to Evo this year in Las Vegas and watched some top players fight each other and I carried one thing away from watching that. That game is complex fighting and completely badass.

........M-My sayings...they're GONE!! Oh..H-hi, M-Masta...
