I got tired of carefully avoiding spoilers when replying in DN threads...so I opened one which WELCOMEs spoilers XD there was an original one, but I don't want to dig up old threads...

Sitll, when writing about most recent stuff (for instance, the latest chapter 88...), it will be a good idea to tell people those are major spoilers, just in case.

So, for those who have read the latest chapter 88...

O_O OMG. OMG. That's my reaction. I have always thought after L dies, the story is dragging on and on...but this chapter somewhat revives my passion for DN a bit. Never liked Takada and Mikami much, but after this chapter...I like Takada even less, and like Mikami a bit more. Takada...how could she...

EnDS ch.88 spoilers

Mikami looks like L more and more. Is it because the author miss him too? I don't know...but of course, Mikami is not like L at all in his actions. Maybe it's his hair. Or may be I miss L too much. Anyway, what do you think? If the author intentionally make Mikami looks more like L...should I interpret that as pitting Mikami vs. Light someday??...his submission to Kira is disgusting, by the way -_-

SPOILERS~!
Yatta!!

~Chapter 88~
When I finished reading this chapter, I was so excited. It feels like the plot is finally returning, and the chapters won't seem to drag on forever anymore. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who found it hard to concentrate while reading the chapters after *SPOIL(-- oops.. don't need to mention the word 'spoiler' anymore : D) L-san's death. That was the worst part of the manga in my opinion. It was obviously not planned in advance. New characters probably should not be introduced after such a main, and terrible, event. So anyway, in chapter 88, we see once again the arts of manipulation and persuation demonstrated by the great Raito-san (I still refuse to call him Light.. ><").

A little bit about Mikami-san. I don't really see him resembling L-san. I think that his face resembles Raito's and that his hair is pretty much the only thing that resembles L. No funny habbits, no incredible ideas or theories.. just someone who's supposedly following Kira's orders and helping to form a new world. I think that because of his acts and acquiesce to Raito's plans, we are supposed to get the impression that he's on Kira's side, without objecting or going against his rule in anyway. He's only trying to help reform the world. Right? Well, not necessarily. I think that there is a possibility that later on there will be some sort of power struggle between the two. Mikami seems to have his mind set on removing certain types of people, whom he sees as criminals from the world, although Raito feels that it is too soon to act in such a manner. I think that Raito feels that he must convince society that his way is the right way, and gradually judge people in a harsher manner. I wonder if we're supposed to forget about this "minor disagreement" until after Raito deals with Near and Mello.

*Piles sugar cubes on top of each other*. Spoilers are fun. Especially when discussing this manga.. because almost everything you want to comment about can be seen as a potential spoiler to other people.

*putting sugar cubes into the tea cup, one after another and another and another...*

>_<...my heart grieves still when I think of L's death...I have said this many, many times, and i will say it again so long as L remains dead: HOW COULD YOU...YOU CRUEL, BRUTAL AUTHOR!! AHHH! L's last moments...OMG...his last moments keep repeating in my head. I can't read DN without thinking that L is DEAD. And then his close eyes will flash before my eyes!! ahhhh!! T_T

but L's death IS planned in advance. L vs. Light can only be resolved when one side is completely defeated (i.e. death). And Light can't die, so poor L has to...if only they could meet in normal circ.! I want to see them become the best of friends and companion...

Meh. Ch.88 is fine, it at least didn't make me go "you suck after L's death, you suck," while the others make me want to redraw them all for L to come back...somehow (if I can DRAW at all ^^'') I never was very attached to Light, I only pay attention to him because, well, he is afterall the protagonist, and he was a twin to L, until he KILLED him! (waaaaa...make it stop, make it stop! I can't bear to remember L's death scene anymore!)

Yeah...may be I just miss L too much. I know, I know, only Mikami's HAIR has the most resemblence to L ^^'' and his face is intended to be like Light's...um, to encourge the...uh...YAOI people to continue yaoi stuff about DN. I have nothing against yaoi (although I think shounen-ai is much cuter ^^"), but I have always abhorred the notion of L + Light yaoi >_< they just...don't go together, can't go together...they should just stay as twins, opposite yet mirrored twins.

anyway. So Mikami...I think I've said this in another thread, but whatever...I do think the ending to DN will ultimately be L Vs. Mikami, unless the author introduces new characters again. Look at the story as stages:
1. L vs. Light. This is like...good vs. evil, no matter which way you put L/Light on. World is against Kira (evil). Colour is white and black.

2. Light vs. Near + Mello. Well, I have nth to say to this. They're replacements of L, simple as that...and very poor replacements if I may add. World = confused, divided. Begin to see Kira-dominance. colour is grey...growing darker

3. Light vs. Mikami. It has to go to this direction, or the manga can't end. We've already seen much divergence b/t Light and Mikami, and as much as Mikami WORSHIPPS Kira, he has a mind of his own indeed; and don't forget he is fully aware that besides Light being the original Kira, he himself also have "the power of the Gods."
MIKAMI, not, Light, has more "the power of the Gods" since he has the Eye as well. Unless, of course, either Takada or Misa sacrifices for Light to obtain the Eye. Thw world is bound to be thrown into darkness, colour is all black; and what can come of a fight between the devils? A chance for the "justice" to strike again when both devils are worn out. So I think Near and Mello will probably lay low for a while, when Light is occupied with Mikami and Takada...and will probably conclude the story, unless the author kills them like what she did with L >_< *sigh*

wow, sorry for the long reply again. Seriously if my job is to analyze DN, I would love to write these all day~

Wa~just read 89.........

I couldn't believe it. I didn't think Near would actually go ahead and challenges Kira head-on. Somehow I think this chapter is done for the benefit of confused readers so far...it explains plainly what is happening and what the conditions of the war are now. I think they have rather overdone it though, it sounds more like for the benefit of the readers more than the characters actually talking according to their character. Interesting how they return to the theme of 1 vs. 1 war between L and Kira -- i want to cry when I see that pic of L -- finally. May be the author have finally resolved her confusion and decide to focus the storyline once more. if this is so then I'm glad...although of course Near is NO WHERE near as good L was.

XD LOL. I totally LOL when I read that part when Near asked someone to accompany him to fly to Japan, b/c he has never been on a plane before XD that totally reminds us that he is, afterall, a child (of 14/15?) who has never left the country before ^^"' but still he doesn't grow on me as L did...*sigh*

There's something that I REALLY don't get about the series. Why after a few years, when they've all sort of keep a little distance and secrets from their own family... why do they still let Misa follow them, know their secret headquarters and basically know what they're doing? Like, Misa even came with them all the way to LA, I don't get it, you don't see Yagami senior bringing his wife along when he went to bring the notebook over. You don't see the other guys bringing their wives, girlfriends or fiances along when they momentarily went to LA. So why is Misa a special case and why does she get to come along? Like, no duh they'd still suspect her and yes, I know she's Light's fiancee but still, work is separate from personal life...

Simple answer to that is...she is LIGHT'S fiancee, i.e. Kira's tool if she should be useful again. Before anyone else appear (i.e. before Mikami and Takada come into the picture), Misa is Kira's only reliable tool to use for his schemes, and for that purpose Light has to keep Misa by his side ALWAYS, in case she blunt out sth stupid/she's needed in emergencies (Kira's emergencies of course, not the police's). Misa may be not your smartest girl, but she's absolutely loyal to Light and will do practically anything for him, that's why Light keeps her for this long...I was actually amazed that Misa didn't get killed sooner. Well since she has to be by Light's side, he brings her to LA with the excuse of Misa having a shooting done in LA, and she being Light's fiancee etc. (Light has to pretend to be in love with Misa, or he won't have an excuse to keep her)...

Besides, Misa has been involved in the investigation since a little before L dies, not as a suspect but as a spy. Remember the Yoshiba company insidents? She helps to get...that guy out of danger. And now she is going into NHN as a spy for the police (and Kira of course).

I just can't figure out how Light is suppose to keep Misa as a fiancee when he's busy trying to court Takada O_O even knowing Light = Kira, wouldn't Takada get jealous? Or if Misa knows about this...wouldn't she get jealous and screw things up??

I know Light's need for Misa to be always at his side before but I'm really surprised the other guys in the investigation would allow her to be there for such a long time and to be around their investigation. I'm surprised the new guys who joined the team didn't wonder if Misa was ever a suspect since.. (was it Ide?) didn't know that both Light and Misa were under suspicion prior to his joining the team. Looks like no one ever told him anything.

Well, Misa retired so the media won't go into her personal life so much so I don't know if Takada knows that she's his fiancee. But then, that's why I wondered why Misa is in on the investigation so much. If she didn't know the inside details of the investigation then Light can juggle both her and Takada at the same time without either knowing, since Takada is so heavily guarded.

By the way, who's paying for all the heavy guards, phone blocks etc that Takada has? I don't think the TV station could afford that for a long time and if its the government then who's funding L's investigation team?

I read chapter 89 yesterday.. (Shirahime-san, how do you get the translated chapters so fast?! @.@")

Anyway...
RAITO vs. NEAR!
When I read this chapter.. I was like... O.O
I like Near a LOT more after this chapter. I mean, the way he was cutting the paper into little pieces.. *swoons*.. lol. And it was pretty funny when he asked that guy to fly with him to Japan XD

Overall, I thought that the chapter was brilliant. There haven't been too many chapters this good in a while, even though the plot is slowly building back up to what it once was. The best part of the chapter, in my opinion, was the phone call between Raito and Near. It was amazing. On the surface it appeared to be a regular conversation, the two sides "sharing" information and potential plans. But that's only what the people present in the room with Raito thought. It was on a total different level, which amazed me. The purpose of the call was not to share information; it was a challange, and a psychological battle. Both Near and Raito completely understood each other's intentions, and they kept analyzing what the other person was saying, and finding the real meaning behind it. I just love that kind of stuff. It's deceiving everyone else that was listening to the conversation. No one else was able to see beyond what it appeared to be, and understand exactly what Near and L, "Light" Yagami, rather, Kira really knew.

So the chapter was really great... except for that scene at the end.. that picture of L-san.. it really hurt me when I saw it. I hate the fact that L died. I don't know if I should be troubled because of being so attached to a fictional character.. but I really do admire L.

By the way, Yuki-Fuuchouin, I haven't heard anything about an anime. I know that they included some people who looked like Death Note characters in one episode of Fullmetal Panic.. That's all.. ^^'

To tearle,

Um, interesting questions. I never thought about the other guys in Light's team. But even if all of them knew Misa was suspected along with Light, it still won't matter: nothing has ever proven that Light and Misa are Kiras. Even though Light is still the prime suspect, Misa is pretty cleared I think. As for the other guys not complaining about Misa tagging along to LA...for one, Kira...pardon me, Light is the leader of their investigation team, so I don't think people mind too much...and another reason is, they knew Misa just comes along because she absolutely refuses to be seperated with Light, and since she has a shooting to be done, she tags along. As for coming and going to their investigation headquaters...well they need to keep an eye on Misa still, under the former (!! >_< !!) L's instructions. Misa isn't informed of anything important--at least that the other guys' impressions. Then after a short whole, Misa looses her memory regarding the Death Note (b/c she gives up her possion over it), so she can't know any new info anymore. Does that make sense?

As for Takada, she KNEW Misa is still with Light, proven by Light's first phone conversation with her in the airport. That isn't a problem anymore, since Takada is convinced that Light has left Misa. But I meant Misa knowing about Takada + Light...although I guess the other guys will tell her that's just for the purpose of investigation. Still, she won't like it, and she may screw things up ^^''

haha financial problem...well for one, Takada is practically a goddess now, she will gladly have accepted any generous donations and sponsors from the mass Kira supporters. Of course the tv station will pay her as well. The government i know definitely isn't involved--they can't be, since they're unwilling to openly admit that they support Kira...they're only NOT making an effort in catching him, there's a difference b/t that and supporting Kira. As for Light's (please call him Light, he can NEVER be L...) team, well the government isn't helping any more, and before L dies (!! T_T) HE is the lone funder. I think after that Near and Mello take over L's funds, so either Light manages to get his hands on some of L's fortune, or...I really don't know.

To Neum-san,

^_^ ***COUGH*BT*COUGH**** is how I get my translated scans. I read the Chinese ones now, b/c they're faster; usually available on the next day the original came out. Near sure seems cute in this chapter...but as I've said, he just doesn't grow on me like L did. I just feel like patting his head and giving him a candy (and receive a rather cold response XD). Yeah...I re-read the chapter right after I finished the first time. It totally AMAZED me how NORMAL their conversation seems. Yet we all know it's a declaration of open war.

I think it's perfectly ok to grieve deeply for L...and getting attached to a fictional character. I know bringing him back to life will probably ruin the story (unless some miracle happens and the author finds a way to compromise). I know DN will make more sense if L remains...*sigh*...dead. T_T but I can't stop but to hope that L comes back, in the expense of ruining the story. I just want him back so badly. The author should never have let him died THAT easily. May be she can bring L back right at the very end, and laugh in the face of Light for his failure (for of course Kira has to fail in order to end the story). Or may be she can let Light meets L in hell (uh, the Shinigami place) when Light dies, and then they can, I don't know, be friends? XD

I can't read the Chinese translations... :[
I want to read chapter 90!
After everything that went on in chapter 89, I can just tell that something really big is going to happen. I'm really curious about how everything's going to turn out.

I really wish that L didn't die. I know that he had to die in order for the plot to progress (even though it didn't go anywhere for the longest time). I just.. wish it didn't have to turn out that way. When I go back and read previous chapters in which L was still alive, I see him, and it makes me feel kinda happy.. yet I'm constantly reminded of his death, and that terrible scene in chapter 58. At least L found out that Raito is Kira. But even knowing that minor fact, it doesn't make the situation any better.
I think that it really would ruin the story though, if L were to return. Although the idea of Raito and L meeting after Raito's death, sounds kinda nice. I always thought they looked like they could be great friends. It was great, earlier in the story, when they were at college together. Naturally, they competed against each other in various ways, but it was still nice to see them together. And then there's L, who thought of Raito as his friend. That just kills me.. It makes me feel so depressed that the one person L considered a friend, had gone and killed him.

I want to read chapter 90!! :Z

Well, think of it this way. L was totally different compared to everyone else except Raito, that's how he found companionship in Raito and garnered a sort of respect/friendship. I mean, at least L was killed by a friend, someone he could respect, instead of by a random stranger.

>_< BUT...BUT...killed by your ONLY friend?! That's just CRUEL to the point of...extermeness...and nobody COULD kill L besides Light anyway, L hid himself so well. >_< but it's so sad that in life, he couldn't risk to show himself to anyone because he had made so many enemies even before Kira, then Kira forced him to show himself, and he found a friend, his only friend...and then he KILLED him, after making L known that he is indeed Kira, the one L has worked so hard to catch. >_< just...that's just plain cruel of Light...but maybe it can be interpreted as a mercy to let L knows that he was right all along, and died proud >_<. In any case, L just...shouldn't die so early...

I know, Neum-san, I love it when L and Light are actually friends...you know, when they had that tennis match, and when Light wipes his memory of DN-related things, and working with L as a completely innocent Light. I was SO happy to see them working together like that...those are still my favourite parts...L only gives his cell phone number to Light...they fight fierecely in Misa's room....oh, remembering those moments and then L's death! Kills me to think of them...

and you're right about ch.90. Something REALLY big did happen. hehe but i'll refrain from saying anything else at this point...

Thanks for avoiding the spoilers.. =P

You forgot to mention the most important thing that happened in Misamisa's room, though! The time when Raito, L, and Misa were all dancing together.. When I read that, I seriously thought I was going to fall off my chair. It was so funny.. even though I'd been expecting it to happen, because someone decided that he'd spoil it for me and tell me exactly what they'll do, when I was about four chapters away from actually reading it :Z

By the way, Arefei-san, I don't think that it's better to be killed by a friend than a stranger. I mean, I know that L didn't trust Raito, until the very end.. but they were still friends, and I don't think that it makes the situation better that he was killed by Raito. I agree with Shirahime-san, L was killed by his only friend. The fact the Raito was his first and only friend really makes it sad. Because L didn't normally befriend people. He iscolated himself, and then finally, when he meets someone worthy of his friendship, and a worthy opponent to him, the guy ends up killing him. L's death could not have been helped, as I said before, and in a way it was done by a stranger.. it just looked like Raito was the one killing him. Rem was actually the one who killed L, Raito only arranged for it to happen. I guess that either way you look at it, both Raito and Rem are responsible for L's death.
