This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

Paper Costs for Old Scans

I have just ceased to be a teenager yesterday, so my memory may be failing me, but...

I think I remember the paper costs for old scans to be 20 instead of the 25 that I see now.

I tried looking for an explanation for this odd possible self-confusion that I've recently ran into around the forums, but I couldn't find anything.

Sorry if this has either been addressed before, or not at all because such a price increase never happened, that the minimum scan price has always been 25 papers, and I'm just going out of my mind.

Thanks for your kind patience and understanding.

No you are absolutely right; the minimum price was at once 20 papers. I'm not sure why they would increase it now though. All the older scans before the new version were locked in at 20 papers regardless of size. So maybe they raised it to account for that. At this point your guess is as good as mine, explanation staff?

I actually wondered how much time people would take to notice this

Scan price did went up, before when a scan was uploaded would cost 40 papers, then passed to 42, and now its 50
as for the old ones its the same thing, they went up from 20 to 25
based on what the FAQ says, you might mention that promoted members have discount and i dont have motive to complain, however that discount disappeared since the rise of scan costs.

seems the rise of prices on real life affects the paper system too xD
dont sweat about it, probably a bug, even if it isnt, start getting used to it

Scan prices are calculated. Popularity is a factor. As such scan prices may inflate. I'm not aware of a baseline rise however Bantam is the only person who'd know if this were the case.

Well that's a relief. At least I know now that I haven't gone insane.

Thanks for the acknowledgements, bwilhelm, Danalm.

I think most members are aware of the effect that popularity has on a scan price, hatesyou-sama. I suppose that there is another explanation for this phenomenon as you suspect, because if there isn't, the only improbable reason is that everybody's consistently downloading all the old scans.

Now we just need to wait for Bantam-sama or somebody who's aware of the situation's root cause to come and shed light on it.

The code for paper calculation hasn't changed for over a year, it would appear that scan cost calculations seem to be up on average though, more people are downloading than ever before, I'll have to take a look and adjust the prices soon. Bear with me.

I think there is a need to upgrade the cost of the old scans anyway because many of them are large in resolution. So I would venture to say that is why a lot of people are downloading them.

@ bwilhelm: Actually, many of them aren't. And, if that were the case, like I said, it'd mean that everybody's consistently downloading all the old scans, the big ones and the small ones, since all the old scans have had their prices raised. There's something else causing the baseline increase.

But you have an interesting point. Resolution could also be a valid factor to determine scan prices.

However, as a person who donates for paper to get scans, I'm biasedly against cost increases in general. In fact, I never download freshly uploaded scans. I merely keep them on my wishlist till the costs go down to the minimum.

@ Bantam: Thanks. Take your time. You've beared more with us than we've ever had to with you.

... Sorry for being naggy.

Is the problem being looked at? An approximate as to when it will be solved would be nice.

Currently Bantam is busy with the development of version 6 of Animepaper in addition to real-life work and commitments. Everything you see here in AP is the accumulation of deference of other activities which could have been done in our spare time. As such, it'd be best to let things get sorted out in due course when Bantam has the time to look into it.

I am very much aware of the fact that time is a hard thing to find for developers of such great sites like this, because it's also highly likely that you people have lives offline.

I know this from experience. Therefore, it's a painful dilemma for me to decide to ask for favors like this. I'm sorry if this ticked you off in any way, I didn't mean to. I'm realize that I'm going back on my words, "take your time." Regret is something I'd rather live without.

It's been two weeks since I've shed light on the problem, and, initially, I thought it was one of rather high priority, as in, more of a "financial" issue than a site bug. I suppose I can only know how important an issue it actually is until it gets solved.
