why are people more concerned about sexual content than anything else?
Well as the topic title says, why are people more concerned about sexual content than anything else?(by "people" i mean the FCC, politicians, Bill O' Reily, etc.) for example, christian groups are labeling Jessica Simpson a slut because of her new music video "these boots were made for walkin' " because she dances on a bar, washes a car in a bikini, blah blah you get the idea. But why aren't they concerned about the racist flag on the car?(ok, i may be overeacting on the flag part) they say that she should be a better influence since her dad is a pastor, but we all know Joe Simpson says some things that are creepy as hell. please give your thoughts on this subject.
Here's my take, not like anyone cares...sex sells, dont you agree? if you disagree with this, look at the past hundred years of any kind of advertising...sex has had to do with about 50% of marketing strategy for as long any anyone has been alive...increasingly in recent times, however...
most of the "religious right" sees sexual indecency as a more serious problem than racist remarks or symbols...and the "atheistic left" sees Viagra as more important to old people than a cure for cancer...it doesnt look like anyone is level-headed here...
besides, if someone saw a problem with the "racist flag" in the video, i'm the ACLU would say that it's just a symbol, nothing more...yeah..and the swastika was just a "symbol" of nazi germany...
my point in all this rambling is that so long as man is a sexual being, and is not perfect, there will be problems...so most of us just gotta get used to the idea of living in an imperfect world.....that's my two and a half cents...

I agree definetly with the sex sells part, have you SEEN the "justify my love" music video? After that, everyone bought madonna's sex book(called "sex", simple and too the point, dont you think?) anyway yeah, sex sells.

Stars'n'stripes phenomenon mostly, but even here in Europe the politicians are making amends to the "parental societies." If you compare this to Asia, nudity isn't such a big issue. It's pretty common to see bare skin in anime, for example. It's rather silly in any case and only makes purchasing entertainment more difficult, although the idea behind it is "noble"; make customers hop through a few loops, prevent kids from "suffering", and -incidentally- ease the job of the parents by moving their responsibilities on the shoulders of the entertainment industry.
Its because people arent thinking how sex will affect young kids. . . they only care about the older people and their money
and what flag was the "racist flag" featured in that video?

I find it strange that in most critics of entertainment freak out over sex or nudity but are more lax about violence.
I mean, kids can stumble into Dark Water (PG-13) and get scared, but they can't go see something like The Royal Tenenbaums (R) because of some curse words and a scene with Gwenyth Paltrow kissing a woman.
They can watch Law & Order Special Victim's Unit on NBC, but Janet Jackson flashes a boobie with a sun-shaped nipple clamp on it for a second and there's an uproar.
I mean, really...

Thats because violence in movies is fake, nudity is not
It sometimes irks me how our society 'seems' so protective and frowns upon sex, but sex is actually sth as natural as eating to us.
If so many people frown upon sex and nudity, who's funding the booming billion dollar porn industry?

Sometime the violence isn't fake, as in documentaries, Bumfights, etc. Regardless, it looks real, and the only people we're trying to protect are children who can't tell it's fake.
Plus there is "fake" nudity too, like body doubles and prosthetics. I mean really, what did a boob every do to hurt somebody... other than that guy who got whiplash in Florida when a stripper smacked him with her bazongas :D.

Well, firstly, sexual content is actually more real than anything else and there are many minors out there watching and disturbing their little minds. I saw Jessica's video, yeah dancing her ass off.... but then again, we live in a free country and they can do whatever they hell they want.

I just watched a mini-special on like cnn about this exact topic and they used jessica S. a example... i'm not a father, i'm 19, however if i was a dad with a young kid i would be blocking some channels on tv. parents need to stop complaining about what's on tv and in the media and take the long road and block some things or talk to your kids.
thats because violence in movies is fake, nudity is not
I agree on that. Also sexual content seems to attract more people so it may be more troublesome.
Well I agree on the "sex sell"... because it really does... our generation nowadays mostly are like that. If you don't see any skin, you'll likely not get interested. People are more sexually attracted and active if we would compare to people's life before us...
Nothing in this world is offensive in itself. Only we make it offensive.
Saying the word "bathroom" used to be a very offensive thing to say. Violence for entertainment (movies, tv, games, etc) used to be a lot less tolerated than it is now. We become desensitized to something, so it becomes less offensive to us. We allow things to offend us. And if you think that a child being exposed to sexuality(sex, innuendo, nudity) is worse than violence (every other show on tv, the news, movies, games) then you seriously need to get raped by a large, grisly black male.

Just because there's nudity in anime, it doesn't mean that it isn't a big issue in other parts of Asia. Asians, being a more conservative lot, tend to frown more on the excessive showing of skin. Even seeing youngsters wearing low-slung jeans (the ones where it clings below your waistline ala Britney Spears style) makes me think that there's something wrong with the youngsters today.
Anyway, I can accept some non-sexual nudity in mainstream anime but I will never tolerate hentai with their out-of-this-world sexual activities.
On the Jessica Simpson video, I have yet to see it (I rarely watch MTV or Channel V) but my guess is that people think that it has suggestive sexual meaning behind it.

bye bro!
