Taken from AnidbBased on Nagaru Tanigawa`s "Suzumiya Haruhi" series of novels.
A far from ordinary school story starts here!
This is a story of Suzumiya Haruhi, who upon enrollment at school announced "I have no interest in ordinary humans. If there are any aliens, beings from the future, or super-humans, come see me. That is all!"
Naturally, any normal person would think "What the...?", but Haruhi is dead serious. Things get crazy when everyone realizes just how serious she is about it all and establishes the "SOS Dan".
Suzumiya Haruhi is a good-looking high school girl who has a clear head, haughty personality and very egocentric thought. She has an unimaginably tremendous power to change the world, but she is totally unaware of her own power and so she is also unaware of the effect of her power on the outside world.
A delightfully strange, yet marvelously interesting story!
Well, 2 episodes in and I'm already head over heels. The animation is flawless. I havn't read any of the novels, but it seems this is a light-hearted, slice-of-life anime which I can guarantee will leave you vomiting due to extreme laughter.

You'll notice that the art is similar to Shakugan no Shana, as the character designer was Noiji Itoh. Already people are claiming this to be a favorite of the season over on the ASuki boards and 4chan, only 2 episodes in. Watch and and share your thoughts, as Haruhi is god.

I laughed so damn hard for the first episode. and the I watched the second just now and I LOL'ed like I have never done before. Made of God and Win, this will indeed go down as the top competing funniest animes of all time among the greats like Azumanga and School Rumble (particularly second season), I mean, just her attitude was funny, added with the extra spice of her thinking was really really explodingly funny.
Trust me on this, once you watched this, you will be hooked.

I haven't read the novels this anime originates from, but I did read around that this anime is not going to be a pure comedy but there's gonna be 'serious' parts as well. So you better be warned and not expect this serie to be a mindless display of hilarious situations.
That said, this is by far the best and I mean the best anime that I've seen so far among the ones that aired since 2006 started. It has godlike animation (Kyoto Animation just owns, PERIOD), second in just two episodes that aired so far they managed to portray such interesting characters and personalities that you immediately get to like them. Third the story-telling is original and entertaining (Kyon's monologues are fun, period). People might complain there's too much dialogue but that's what makes this anime different and enjoyable, hearing Kyon's monologue and cynical comments during each scene fits perfectly. Last but not least, best ending animation ever.
This anime so far is a win, I do hope it'll go on like this (wether it'll be fun or become serious) with this kind of narration, characters and animation. It's supposed to be a 14 episodes serie so I do hope KyoAni will manage to do a fair job at it. Expectations are high (for obvious reasons).

When I was watching the first episode I thought that there was something wrong with the source or the encode (16:9 but only 4:3 shown). After the ep was over I thought that it was a very original idea to do a whole episode like that. Yes the series is funny, but no where near Azumanga funny. I've laughed more watching Honey and Clover. All in all it seems like it will be an interesting series.

I had to rewatch ep 2. The way Mikuru kind of hiccups when

To be honest I was thinking on the 1st episode "What in the hell is this, it looks like a movie I made in high school." Ironically enough it was...and I got the "I feel retarded" look all over my face for a good day or so. As stated before the art work is done by Kyoto Animation which means its damn good. Voice acting is just superb once again. One of the voices is very familiar actually. The character Kyon (forgot his full name) if you take your time and think the person playing Kyon is the same person as playing the character of Tsuchimi Rin of Shuffle.
Anyways to sum it all up, I'm happy to say that this anime should be a hit in the near future, if not now. And everyone should pick this baby up.
Ps. I love the credits dance number...nice animation and kyon looks like he is being blackmailed to do it ^_^

Well, I watched the first episode, about 2 days ago, but damn that was funny!! At first during the opening song, I'm likeWhat the hell!!?? This anime sucks!! I was thinking of just stop watching, but I stayed watching my computer screen...
Anyways it was really funny, I am currently downloading the second ep. I can't wait to see it!!

Guys, I know some of you are obsessed with Shuffle and so on, but I'd rather remember Tomokazu Sugita as the guy who played Hideki from Chobits or Mayama from Honey and Clover rather than Rin, eh >_>; .

Glad I took a peep in this thread. Downloaded both episodes, watched them and loved it to death.
If you imagine Kyon as Rin, the whole narration and cynical/sarcastic comments somehow seems more hilarious (Rin was somewhat cynical/sarcastic). When I imagine Kyon as Hideki, the whole atmosphere somehow feels out of place.

The OP video had me wondering if I had downloaded the right file. The resolution size was small (I thought I zoomed the video too out), quality was low and the opening song was totally out of tune. (I didn't read the spoilers until halfway through the first episode and only then I realized that the whole setup was intentional. ROFL!)
And Kyon's comments definitely takes the cake here. I was constantly laughing at a lot of the comments.
