This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

Has anyone ever had a dream where they feel like they are awake with their eyes wide open? but cannot move or talk at all, and that your mind is telling you its a dream and you are frantically trying to wake yourself up?
i since the mind has captured the room before you slept (and maybe the eyes are still wide open) what you see is exactly what is there because when you wake up its like your eyes never opened or closed, only that you can move again.

i always find myself trying to talk but nothing comes out and when i do wake i sometimes get out a little yelp. not being able to move (paralysis) is soo creepy. and the strange thing is this dream is a dream that in my experience you can jump right back into it the seconds later after you pass out from waking up just seconds ago, and then the cycle of trying to wake up again starts. sometimes i turn on my tv and sleep on my side facing thinking it will stop the dream. for the most part it works but there were times when it still happened and i would see the tv flicker in my dream paralysis. i've found another way where i cover my eyes with my blanket (so that if i have a dream paralysis i wont see anything in front of me because that is what makes the dream so creepy... and it works pretty good)

i think i've read somewhere that this is a sleeping disorder, but not sure.
so has anyone experienced this before?

I myself have not but ive heard of many cases where the body shuts down completely except your eyes are still open and yoru brain still processes the pictures, its a DPA Dream Paralysis Action, meaning your mind is acting somethign out but your body cant execute the actions needed to commit to the function, its very uncommon but if you do expireince it, it is somethign to be remembered im sure

the only thing ithat resembles it but its nto true is in surgey, a woman's nerves kicked on during surgery and her eyes were open, she could feel the pain of the doctors cutting into her skin and feel the hands moving inside her but she couldnt moe at all

It's the matrix. No really I have had dreams that seem to so real, it is almost like I am living another life while I sleep. Much less for the ones you know aren't really but you can't shake it no matter what. You think ok just open your eyes but it's still there.

I saw an interesting documentary on TLC (I think) a while back that spent some time focusing on sleep paralysis. It's often linked with narcolepsy, but can occur in people with no signs of narcolepsy as well. It can take on different forms. Some people report the feeling of someone else being in the room with them and others report the feeling of a large weight on thier chest keeping them from breathing. Johan Heinrich Fussli's "The Night-Mare" (1781) depicts sleep paralysis as a demon sitting upon the chest of a sleeping woman, obviously in distress, with a large horse (presumably a mare) looking in from the rear of the room.

More information and a depiction of Fussli's painting can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis.

Never experienced sleep paralysis, but I remember during one particularly stressful period I slept fitfully while dreaming I was awake and trying to get to sleep, but unable to do so. That's no fun at all. You wake up unrefreshed, feeling just like you actually hadn't slept a wink.

I'ved experienced this. Basically, you're aware of the surroundings and when you try to move, feels like you can't. It's kinda annoying though, wanting to move, yet your body doesn't obey. Of course, when you realize that, you're obviously dreaming [or light dreaming].

Just relax, 'willing' yourself to wake up won't happen even if you wanted to.
Sooner or later, you're bound to wake up naturally.

Gosh... this just happened to me about an hour ago and it happens quite often. It's starting to get really scary. The feeling is so similar to the "The Night-mare" artwork, I feel as if something is sitting on top of me, and sometimes it seems as if I can feel it moving. Sometimes I'm able to open my eyes, but i can't see anything and I can't move. It feels so real, that I can't even distinguish whether it was a dream or not...

Yeah, sometimes. I know I'm dreaming, I can feel myself but I can't wake up. Other times I think I'm awake but I can't get up, I'm paralysed. Sometimes I do see weird s*** in my room, sometimes it looks normal, others it's slightly different but I still believe it's real.
Weird stuff that makes writting stories easier.

That has only ever happen to me once when I was having a really bad dream, I guess it's because I popped out of it so quickly. I ended up asking pretty much it same question and the answer I got was that brain shuts off control to the limbs and a few other body parts to prevent you from hurting yourself while youâ??re sleeping, because people normally can't tell when they're dreaming or not their brains stay really active, That's why so many people kick around, talk or fall out of bed in their sleep. The thing is sometimes you might wake up suddenly and your brain takes awhile to restore all the functions. Kinda like when youâ??re sitting for along time and then you have to stand quickly and your feet feel weak.

That kinda makes sense to me, how about you guys?

This is actually true. Your body releases a neurotransmitter when you sleep that causes your body to be paralyzed (or at least mostly paralyzed) so that while your body is thinking that it's actually running and moving around, you aren't actually running and moving around. Sleepwalking is an example of the body failing to do this process, and there are plenty of other things that can happen as well.

As for your particular case, you might very well have a sleeping disorder, and you might want to ask a doctor or psychiatrist about it. I've never experienced this kind of thing, but I have woken up with absolutely no feeling in my arm and it scared the living shit out of me so much when I was flinging my arm around and it acted as if it was completely dead. It was just asleep, but it still gave me a good scare.

Yup, this thing has happened to me before. I can't move and i can't speak. It lasted for approximately 30mins, i guess. I tried concentrating "Ala Kill Bill" mode. And started commanding my body to move bit by bit. After some time, i did move.

Ok here's my story... when i was about 7 or 9 years old... i had this freakin' nightmare... i know i was having a nightmare... i want to wake up but i can't i tried opening my eyes.. well guess what it didn't work... so i move my hands to my eyes and tried opening them but i can't... i don't know if i really moved my hands like that or if it was also part of my nightmare... so i struggled to wake up... after i think 5 to 10 mins. of that i suddenly woke up... when i sat down i was sweating like there's no tomorrow... the back of my shirt was soaking wet... and i wake my mom and told her what happened... then she told me to pray... i think i nearly died back then... :| emoticon

I've never personally experienced it. It is possible that it's a sleeping disorder. The question then is how often you have it. If it's frequent, then it's best to see a doctor. But there's also the possibility that you just woke up during REM sleep and was unable to distinguish between reality and dream. You enter the REM phase about 4 to 5 times a night, so there's a chance that you woke up during one of these times. You don't stay paralyzed for long, though, so you eventually come out of it.
