Resident Evil is a good series to try and so is Silent Hill 1 and 2. Haunting Ground was creepy and okay to play once, but has little or no replay value. Also if you're looking for more of a combat type game, then Haunting Ground is definitely not for you, because you mostly run and hide from the enemies. I played Fatal Frame 2, which was a very intense horror game. Eternal Darkness was also great because it constantly messed with your head. I hope this info was of some help.

Silent Hill is by far the scariest series of games made. Not just a shock factor either.

I'm kinda weird in the sense that I like horror games, but I don't like actually playing them! I love to watch someone else play them, but I'm just too big a wuss to play them myself. The only horror game I've played myself is Silent Hill 2, and despite having completed it several times, I still have a hard time playing it because I get so scared. So usually I just get my older sister to play them for me, while I sit on the couch and cower amongst blankets and pillows. x3 But she's not all that brave either; we got Project Zero/Fatal Frame, but she got so scared that she quit after getting killed at, like, the second ghost in the game and never touched the game again! My hero. :D

For me its Resident Evil 4. Games like Doom3 / Quake4 are scary but after a while you know when the monsters are coming.

Scary video games are the only games i can play anymore. mainly because they're so effective. Silent Hill 3 was amazing, and Resident Evil 4 was amazing as everyone says. But i think my favorite is Fatal Frame II. Also, FFi is good and Haunting ground [plus clocktower] all add unique elements to the genre. Horror video games are the best.

Well, most recent made-me-creep-out kinda game I played was F.E.A.R.
It was more of a psycological thing as opposed to things jumping out at you. As for scariest I've ever played, that would have to be System Shock 2.

I liked Resident Evil. I've just finished the 4... it's sometimes scary.
I tried to play Silent Hill 3 (just a demo version) but it was making a really high pressure on me, so I could not even go to the end of the demo... really scary...
