Greetings fellow forumites,

I've always wanted to discuss this somewhere.

Anybody here likes anime's, such as; Serial Experiment: Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Elfen Lied or any other sort of anime that mentally screws you up.

Don't get me wrong, i'm a big fan of Evangelion, the first time i saw it, after completing the whole series, especially after the movie. I was....how would i put this? Mentally scarred and somewhat shocked.
If anybody here has seen the anime's or something similar, they'll know what i'm on about. :)

Things have really changed, i enjoy streaming anime's over YouTube to explore different anime's. Unlike the past where such feature was limited, i was pretty much forced to purchase or rent tapes/DVD's just to see if i'm interested in the certain anime. Enough said. I streamed Lain just recently, being aware that the creators designed the series to 'mislead' the viewer, must i say, they did a damn good job. After watching it , i wasn't able to sleep for the whole night, not that i was scared, but there's a certain 'something' that was screwing with my thoughts and i can't get rid of it.

Elfen Lied wasn't as bad, but it's not really my taste seeing people's head blow up for no reason. On the other hand, Evangelion made much more sense to me, although there is still some unanswered questions, it really doesn't bother me THAT much nowadays. :D

Geeee....i just made myself sound like such a wuss. Question is; Do Any of you enjoy these sort of anime's?

I personally don't like them but the confussion and curiosity gets the better of me, ultimately making me view more episodes! :(

I really enjoyed Serial Experiment: Lain. They way they did the story starting with the end and ending with the start was mind blowing for me. I cant take a whole lot of "Dark" anime it hurts my head lol. One other I thought was really good is Gantz. That was was odd O.o Yeah 2G I would say the same about curiosity.

As i suspected, i typed too much once again. Nobody can be bothered reading it!

I want more replies, very interested in what you anime fans think. :(

Yeah..But I wouldn't say Elfen lied messed with my head. It just used excessive violence.

After End of Evangelion I felt kinda inexplicably depressed. But I prefered the last two episodes of the seires anyway.

Hmm..Does Paranoia agent count as dark? I dunno...

Hmm.. I've never felt that way even though I've seen all the animes listed above.. Though Lain kept me thinking for quite a while.

this kind of anime is very cool... I like when the history line make me stop and think...

Ergo Proxy and Death Note can be in the list [= very good animes

Yeah, the darker anime are kinda nice, I love animators who can use negative space to enhance a scene, so few people in both the animation industry and the movie industry can't do it well, elfin leid really wasn't dark, it was more like chobits but when you hit her on the head she turns into a homocidal killing machine... boogiepop phantom, ergo proxy, and SE:Lain were some really nice ones I do admit, they did a very good job in that "darker" sense, but it's like any genre, there's people who like it and those that dislike it...

I seriously love this kind of anime :) I liked both Gantz and Elfen Lied a lot. Same with Shingetsutan Tsukihime, Jigoku Shoujo and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Still need to see Death Note though, but I'm waiting for the full series to be available with subs.

Why I love them? Don't know :3 the darker the better in my eyes, but I do watch humorous anime, ofcourse. ^_^

Yeah, yeah... Authour, all animes that you noticed it's my favorite, esspecially Elfen Lied and NGE. But it should be mention that i like not only dark anime also i like dark characters who are the parts of other different anime like "Dio" from Last Exile, "Gilgamesh" from FSN...

Are people confusing "Dark" with "Gore?"

Well I depends on what type of Dark anime it is. I'm a little picky about my anime.

Ohhh my favorite genre in anime. By far my most favorite dark anime is Texhnolyze. It was sorta slow at the beginning but after episode 4 things get really moving. Then again on second thought any anime Yoshitoshi Abe puts his character designs in I just come to love a great deal (whether or not I understand the ending the 1st time or not XD )

I love this kind of anime that explores the psicological side of characters and make you got crazy with the anime *-* I love this sensation!

I've started with Evangelion... No, I lied... I've started with AKIRA and then EVA, and then I saw many others @_@ Actually I'm watching Death Note and Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori. The way that the autors explores their characters are really interesting and fully envolves you in the serie.

Now I want to see Ergo Proxy, I think it goes this way too...
