Is there real friendship between man an woman?

Shakespeare said that there is no real friendship between man and womam.
It is an old question and people have different ideas.
I agree with Shakespeare and what do you think?:D

Yes, I think there can be friendship between a man and a woman. Shakespear is not a good place to learn anything from...

Yes... I .. think... so.. hahahah.. I thought... otherwise, how'd they get along? Hhaha... and you have to realize, shakespeare lived in a different era. haha
Shakespeare came from a time when women were second-class citizens and were expected to be timid and unseen in the public. My best friend is a guy. What are you smoking? LOL ^^; I want some too...

Puppychow 16 got right, and sencondly: dont read it litaraly, he (or the analyset of the 20th century :) ) means that 2people from different place can't understand each other, and it will have confilcts... so even 2man (here i mean 1 100% guy, other a little girly) can have a fight each other... Shakespear is a filosofist freak with strange hystory, and dont forget, he's a sexist (for real, no kidding) he real says that women are a piece from the men, and he's 500% catholic :)
i'm a guy (yes 80% guy, 19% femal and 1% pork :) ) and i rather like to talk to women than to men, my best friend is a girl, my second friend is a girl, and third is a... kind of boy :)
Well Shakespeare really is a little out of date. But I do have to admit, he has a point. Sometimes it really happens, like getting too close to a certain someone, and friendship tightens too much and soo.. And it's really painful, I can assure you ^^" For both sides that is. But coping with this kinda stuff is part of a friendship as well, and overall there is no reason not to believe in friendship between males and females.
First of all shakespeare is a bad example after all
he married his cousin
but anyway alot of the time people wont
except anything from a man or woman but a serious
relationship
but like everyone else said hes a little outta date
times are changing
my best friend is a girl actualy
my only friends are girls
sometimes you just have to get
past your emotions

In the begining yes....but then...
As far as I know, I see a lot of men talking with a lot of women and going to parties and all without having sex with them.
And what about gay men and straight women? At least I heard a lot of straight women saying that the best friend they can have is a gay man.
My mom has and had a lot of male friends that weren't gay, she says men are better friends than women and she's not a slut, far from it.
The men were my age, her age, didn't matter.
So I say yes.
In my personnal experiences, I don't know and I don't care. I do have guy friends, but I barely speak with them. I barely speak with anyone. >>;

Shakepeare said that because he was horny and he wanted to justify himself. >_<
Herm i think Shaakespeare is pretty otudated :P
((especially considereing there are both gay and lesbian, who would only want friendship b/t the opposite sex)).. i think plenty of people can have "just friend" opposites and not have it go any farther! i think it's certaintly possibly and can actually stay like that for years... sometimes while you do get along with them, they're just "not your type". Or you already have a significant other. etcetc .. plenty of ways to just have friendships b/t a guy and girl!
of course there are the times that it becomes a "one-sided love" or end up being "compatible" even tho you started as friends or if you were intimate with that person and now it's kinda weird to not cross the "friendship" line...
it depends on both people, the situation, etc... but i do think there can be friendship b/t guy and girl! ((happens every day :P))

but, one question... what are we talking about? a friendship? or a deeper friendship (girl- and boyfriend)?
that's 2 big things apart!

Not realy, he's just a gay like Davincie (the true, no kidding) (how they know? dunno maybe from they art, boons containt AIDS..., dunno )
Where did Shakespeare ever say that?
The rather screwed up character of Mr. Duffy in James Joyce's A Painful Case said it. Specifically: "Love between man and man is impossible because there must not be sexual intercourse and friendship between man and woman is impossible because there must be sexual intercourse."
It's clear within the story that this is the viewpoint of a man who is fatally flawed, fearful of emotion, existing as a mere shell of a man, dead on the inside.
In Robert Louis Stevenson's Familiar Studies of Men and Books, he wrote "We love our mothers otherwise than we love our fathers; a sister is not as a brother to us; and friendship between man and woman, be it never so unalloyed and innocent, is not the same as friendship between man and man. Such friendship is not even possible for all."
Stevenson goes on to praise John Knox for his friendships with women.
Of course men and women can be friends without any reservations, ulterior motives, or secondary considerations. The relationship may differ from others, but every relationship is different from every other due to many, many factors. Gender is pretty low on the list of significant factors.
