Well in Bleach the Grand Fisher episode almost put me to tears...when Rukia left to Soul Society, The BIG fight with Renji and Ichigo, The story of how Ken-chan and Yachiru met ( it was SOOO cute...besides the blood and gore though), When Byakuya saved Rukia, when Kaien died( damn he looks alot like Ichigo, dont he!? Mind you Kaien has a mullet), and...thats about it. But none of it really made me cry...almost though, but still, twas sad!

I agree with mikageryuji. Even though AIR was sad in the end, kimi ga nozomu kept on moving me from the beginning till the end. There is also another one that i dont think anyone has mentioned (havent read all the pages in this thread) which is Iriya no sora. Oh WOW that one actually made a tear come out. For AIR and kimi ga nozomu it only made my eyes kinda watery, but for an actual tear to come out, thats gotta be good drama.

For me it was the final episodes of Wolf's rain

every time I see it I cry, and cry, and cry like you would not believe.

And Full Metal Alchemist

Wear Huges die and during his funeral. Also that one episode earlier
on in the series wear that cute little girl Nina and her dog Alexander
were turned into a chimera and killed afterwards by Scar.

In this anime, the characters basically gets built up and makes an attachment with the audience then suddenly dies off... Makoto turns out to be the spirit of a wounded fox wanting to repay Yuuichi for his kindness. She "dies" and disappears. Mai, haunted by her past memories, visualizes monsters, hunts them, and eventually loses it during her prom going beserk. Aya, Yuuichi's childhood friend turns out to be hospitalized for 8 years due to an incident Yuuichi caused. In her coma, her spirit hangs around Yuuichi trying to get him to remember their past. Nayuki, Yuuichi's distant cousin never got any attention from Yuuichi, her crush. All these add up, making this one of the most tear-jerking anime I've watched.

This one I'm also surprised no one mentioned. It may be because no one has watched it... but I doubt that.

Shuji and Chise, a couple who just fell in love are torn apart by the war. Chise, a clumsy, shy girl without much talent has been chosen by the military and was forced to become the Ultimate Weapon. Eventually, she turns into a killing machine while still holding on to her feelings for Shuji. A true tear-jerker.

Not as tear-jerking as the ones mentioned above but still worth mentioning.

Despite all the hardship Nemu and Jun'ichi endured, Nemu dying seemed unexpected. Sakura ending up sacrificing her love and her grandmother's memoto adds to the tragic plot.

Scrapped Princess

Nothing is as depressing as having the whole world hunting you down just because you're an innocent child who happened to be born on a bad day for the fundamental plot. The deaths of ex-assassin and cz adding to that creates a real tear-jerkers.

Ayashi no Ceres

Similar to Scrapped Princess, having your family turning against you is no fun. Many unexpected deaths and too emotional for me to put in words.

This is a J-Drama but is definitely worth watching if you like tear-jerking stories. It's based on a diary of a girl with Spinocerebellar Degeneration titled A Litre of Tears or A Diary of Tears. It is a true tear-jerker that's worth mentioning.

Saikano is really very sad, in the 9th episode...

when Shuji enters in Akemi's room and she declares her love, since he entered you know that she will die, but her screams in the end was so... sad, the whole episode was very depressing.

Other "tear-jerking" animes, Elfen Lied, Gunslinger Girl, Grave of Fireflies (this one is awesome), Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru, Suzuka.

IMO Full Metal Alchemist, Karekano, Furuba and others have some depressing scenes but they aren't a true "tear-jerking"

Wow, crying from Bleach... I must say I've never heard of that before Kindergoth (not that it's bad or anything...I just don't usually relate shonen-pop-type manga with tears...)
Erm, well, I don't cry from reading. I barely cry from movies, but I definitely don't cry if it's just on paper or in my imagination or whatever.

Elfen Lied was a sad anime. The Mariko thing was pretty darn cute (maybe that's the wrong word...). Lucy's ending in it more frustrated me than anything though, because:

1. I wasn't sure if her talk with Kouta was real or not and
2. Because of Yuka x Kouta. I really hated her. Hated Kouta, too, actually, but Lucy liked him so it would have been nice for her to be with him.

Wolf's Rain was pretty darn frustrating too...

Toboe's death was the only one they really managed to make sad, but it was really frustrating because it was such a preventable death, you know? Like the way Toboe's old granny died. Just frustrating because it could have been prevented.

I don't really watch a whole lot of sad anime.

I didn't find Evangelion sad though. I expected more deaths and stuff (cuz I read summaries before seeing the anime) but people lived, or atleast, they died in less sad ways then they could have died.
I was also kind of dissapointed the way Rei's character kind of crapped out...I thought she'd have been my favourite but they didn't develop her enough, and I ended up liking Asuka more. End of Evangelion's a whole 'nother crazy thing though. Not sad either, I must say.

Bah. It's probably just cuz I'm such a frigid b*tch.

Wolfwood. In the church. Pink light streaming in through the windows. The 'hallelujahs' in the background. His private Eden. And, worst of all... he never accepted his own death. He had just found redemption through living with Vash, and the minute he tried to do things right he was killed by the man who raised him. But mostly... the composition of the scene. It felt like such a fitting ending for such a fantastic character.

Legato's death was possibly even more soul destroying, looking back. The gunshot, and then... silence. I know he was a bad guy, but that scene was tear-jerking just for the effect it was going to have on Vash. Guess that's why the abruptness moves me so much in retrospect.

Air. Dear god. I just finished it about two hours ago. I'm still reeling.

...they build you up for the reunion between Eichi-kun and Mitsuki-chan so much, right down to that beautiful piece in the Rock'n'Roll Princess opening sequence where Full Moon becomes an angel to fly to the astronomer Eichi sitting on the full moon...

He was dead all along.

Oscar's revalation that she loved Andre came far too late. Proposing to him as he lay dying was the most futile and beautiful gesture I have ever seen in an anime. And he didn't get a beautiful send-off like the aforementioned Trigun character; Oscar didn't even realise he was dead for a minute, because he died with his eyes open.
"Alain?"
"Oui?"
"Can I please cry... just once more?"

Damn, now I'm depressed. >_>

Oh, I think I cried in Bleach too.

When I thought Kenpachi was going to die. I didn't like him as much then as I do now, but what would Yachiru-chan have done without him? Just the thought was enough to bring tears to my eyes. He's all she's ever known.

Bleach is a damned moving series actually. It's well worth your time.

The most recent depressing animes were DNAngel and Elfen Lied. Those shows are way too powerful, so full of strong emotions... Too bad those shows were so so short.

At the end - the last episode specifically. Harry and Brandon - the most impossible thing, Brandon couldn't bring himself to let Harry be hurt or to hurt him. After all that Harry had done to him and the years he spent trying to get revenge on him, Brandon would save him! The very last scene before the credits start when Harry says he's sorry and they shoot each other - not out of hatred or revenge, but so they can go back to the old days again...God, I was crying like nothing else.

Misuzu Kamio's death scene. OMG, when Misuzu knew she was going to die, so she used the last of her strength to get off, off her WHEELCHAIR and walk towards her mother. While walking towards her mother she was telling her how its okay for her to die and that she had a life time of happiness in one summer OMG. Because Misuzu was a decendent of a winged-being who was cursed never to love otherwise she would suffer immense pain and die. Thus, she had no friends and would live in solitude. Anyway, she finally reaches her mother and her last dying words were saying thank you to her mother (because it was her mother who was her friend from the beginning and took her away from a life of eternal loneliness and sadness, Yukito helped Misuzu out too but he was already gone sort of). Then she dies in her mother's arms. OMG, I must've watched this scene at least 100 times. After watching this series I was depressed for weeks.

The Air movie had the same sort of scene as the one described above but this one line Misuzu said really hurt. (The movie came out after the series, so we knew what was going to happen to Misuzu)

Misuzu was talking to Yukito saying how she buried some pictures of her real mother and that she was going to dig them up when she was 20. Then he asked why are you digging them up now. Then she replied, "Because things change." Meaning, she knew that she was going to die and never see the age of 20 (sniff).

The same I felt too. I think AIR is the most dramatic and sad anime I ever seen in all my life. But I also saw many times the "Windaria" long OAV. The sadness of the final scenes took me a lot, and I wasn't able to do anything than watching and watching the end again and again, hoping the next time something different could be happend... I will not add the spoiler, because I saw It in japanese with english subtitles, and I'm not sure the names of the characters are the original ones...
