Hello there!
I'm not trying to be mean, I'm seriously trying to figure out why people like this series. My friends are obsessed with it but I have suffered through every episode with them and find it to be completely boring.
I'm sure that I'm just missing a deeper meaning, If I could understand what others like about this series then I'm sure I can learn to appreciate it.
Thanks,
LL

It's a semi-epic fantasy with some of the best actual character development of any anime series you're likely to see. If you're not interested in character-driven plots (along with more intrigue than action) then it probably won't appeal to you. For those who prefer that type of show, though, it's a slice of fried gold.
If you don't have the mindset to get into that kind of show, you'll have a very hard time appreciating it as an enjoyable experience.

Some anime just isn't for everyone. I know a guy who could never get into Cowboy Bebop or Gundam Seed, despite both being widely loved. And he really couldn't explain why he couldn't get into it. Some things just aren't for you, and that's OK. It means you have a mind of your own, and your own tastes.
I watched the first episode, but that wasn't enough to pull me in and put the series on my watch list, so I feel the same way, wondering what I'm missing in the show that other people can see (characterisation and intrigue are both right up my street). I maybe needed to watch a little more, but I had other anime veying for my attention, so didn't really give it the time it maybe deserved/needed.
Twelve Kingdoms is an awesome series. The reason I feel that way is because there is large focus on character development as well as politics. It's a fine break from the typical titles that revolve around mech and harems. You probably just don't have a broad enough range of interests to like this one, that's all.
Yes i know what you mean because at first when i started watching it i was like what the hell these characters are annoying whiny idiots and by ep 4 i almost gave up on it. gave it another go and surprisingly enough i ended up liking the series purely because the characters do get better all thanks to development and the whole fantasy element plot became more and more intriguing and it also teaches a lot about humanity and morals. try watching it with no clear expectations of what it might be like and you maybe surprised....or you could just watch something else afterall different people different tastes.
Well, I like the series because of the fantasy setting and it's set within Asian mythology. I've been exposed to too much western fantasy so this is a refreshing change.
Admittedly the anime and novel start out a little slow... I was watching past 11 episodes and I was terribly annoyed with Yoko's character. Luckily enough her character developed as the series progressed and that got me hooked.
After Yoko finally earned her place within the world, I then got interested with the world she was in (the culture, people and their beliefs).
There's nothing wrong in not liking it. Different strokes for different folks.

I wish there will be a continuation of the anime.
Reading the novels, there's still so much more to offer.

I also stop watching at episode 4 because of the same reason! But my brother convince me to watch it until Youko met with "that rat" (my brother forgot his name at that time).. And I did. And I'm glad that I listed to my brother. The story got better after that. The character development is the biggest "point" in this series. I've never seen a series with almost EVERYONE had a character development. Usually, it's only one or two. Besides, the storyline itself is amazing. Honestly, Juuni Kokki is my all time favorite anime, beating all other great anime out there!
I like it showing the main character going through a lot, changing from being childish to mature. I found this anime quite deep. The anime got me hooked on, so I started reading the books as well.
This anime has been through a lot with me, I always rewatch my favorite episodes after staying up all night for revision.
