Well ipods are the common choice like when you ask someone what do you use to listen to as a general term they wont say an mp3 player they will say an ipod. It is not a social fashion but more of a culture. ipods are not bad in my opinion but there are better. I personally went with the ipod 80gb because last year a 24 hr batt life with music was unheard of on the players i have seen and looked for and it was over priced tho :( Oh well

Tell me where I can find a 1.5 inch, 160+GB harddrive for less than $200 bucks. I didn't know harddrives that size (physically, not capacity), were sold as units to consumers...

I think the ipods just a fashion statement.
and like leepatekar mentioned i hate apple' marketing campaigns.
i have a creative zen vision and its much much better than the ipod in terms of video format support and multiple audio format support.
its also got a reasonable battery life.. i just have to charge it once a week... hmm.. i'm not implying that it works continuosly for the whole week tho.

i dont like the ipod but i do like the mac desing but its just way too expensive and the mac os doesn't really have many titles when it comes to gaming.
i also hate how mac uses other competing products as a crux to market their products.
hmmmm... oh well.. time to get back to my assignment now... lol

It really doesn't matter if it's 1.5 inches or not, I mean my CD player fits in my pocket, and it easily can be slipped into a coat pocket of some sort. CD Player (that can read mp3s) = $30 + Black CDs = $10 + Nero = a few hours of download time = 400 songs to listen to on one CD on the go (aka your mp3 player).

Also:

Rio > Zune > iPod

I don't care as long as I can listen to my tons of music.

I myself am looking for an mp3 player to purchase and I am sure that it will be an IPod only because I have been wanting one of those for years now. But as far I can see the success of the IPod apparently is a very good thing for mp3 players alike , it brings unknown customers to their want and try their devices so that's a plus On the other hand apple has set the standards of competition so high that many mp3 player companies may not be able to compete in the market. But this is something that makers of mp3 players should be aware of and maybe just maybe this whole IPod craze will push mp3 companies alike to further heights and make them produce better products than apple in the future.
