This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Despite the fact that gangs are technically consistant of delinquents Definition they have a general purpose, protection, so why then dont geeks band together and form a gang? Simple, they would control everything. Think about it, geeks have connections in the right places, not mucsle but banks, and large companies, well if say Thug A decides to beat up Geek A, all Geek A has to do is inform a certain connection at Thug A's bank and have all of his accounts frozen indefinatley. Thug A dosent want that, so Geek A dosent get beaten up! The reason this does not hapen? Geeks realize that the balance must be maintained, and in most instances are more interested in learning something or making something useful then obtaining power.

Thats what I think, what do you guys think?

The reason that I think that this might not happen is because Geek A might be afraid that if he were to freeze all of Thug A's bank accounts..I mean, think about it...Thug A would come after Geek A, and then who knows what would happen?Thug A would probably beat up Geek A anyway, because he knows that Geek A can do that and that Geek A probably did do that. So, here would be the situation:
Thug A beats up Geek A.
Geek A freezes Thug A's bank accounts.
Thug A beats up Geek A again.
Thats what I think..

People create gangs for protection. The reason there can't be Geek Gangs is because geeks can't protect themselves physically. Have you ever heard of two gangs go against each by freezing each other's bank accounts? I don't think so. But you do hear gangs go against each other with knives and sometimes guns. Geeks may be smart but out in 'the streets', they can easily get beat up by thugs. Besides, what are the chances a thug is going have a bank account much less care about having his account frozen? He'll beat up the geek anyway, not just by himself, but he'll call his thug friends to beat up that geek too and soon enough, that geek will be forced to unfreeze the thug's bank account. This is why we don't have Geek Gangs.

All the facts already stated support the "no-geek-gang" theory, but you also need to think about the fact that many people are called "geeks" because they are anti-social, so it's kinda... ironic, to have a geek-gang if they are not very sociable persons, you just can't get them together... Geek clan is another thing, (thinks about all MMORPG groups out there :p)

A group of criminals or hoodlums who band together for mutual protection and profit.

hehehe i like that one

about that bank thing . . . would a thug even have a bank account?

anyone else keep hearing the media misuse the term "gangbang"?

hey, i may be considered a geek by alot of people, but give my any gun and i could use it; once you learn where the charging handle, safety/fire selector, takedown latch, magazine release, bolt catch (if applicable) is on one gun, they're easy to spot on other guns

This is interesting. i wonder if such gangs exist. but i think not. though they may group together, they will not form a gang IMHO. they wouldn't have a reason to anyway.

ROFLWT that concept made me laugh hard :hehe: that's a good one :)

EDIT:

adding to what's stated above, i'd rather not underestimate a geek. they may know stuff that we don't. they may also be good at fighting than we do... and sometimes, they can also be cooler than we are :)

Umm last I checked a gang was an identifiable group of people (highly organized or loosely structured) who form an alliance for a common purpose, which identifies with or claims territory in the community. Members engage either individually or collectively in antisocial or unlawful activity/activities and frequently create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. So given a territory could apply to say the Internet, yeah I could definitely see a geek gang being a force to rival with. With the advent of technology one can mask themselves and thus hide their identity making physical strength completely not admissible or even a factor.

Yeah... most people don't see gangs as a group of geeks. That bank freeze example was hilarious! The thing about not being able to protect yourself physically. A stereotypical geek could probably use a weapon like a gun or invent something. Being geek also doesnt' mean you're a skinny butt who can't do crap. I bet there are some people classified as geeks but have some muscle behind them. Bcmcgee has a good point about the term gangs.

When people form gangs, they dont usually think about "What is our common purpose? and how will forming a gang be of mutual benefit?". The just hang out because it passes the time i guess.
As for the reason of why there's no geek gangs - i guess its because normal gangs tend to just hang out doing nothing for ages, whereas "geeks" would rather to do "geeky" stuff...
I dunno...Its hard and unfair to generalise since not all "geeks" are physically weak, and not all gangs are dumb.

A Geek Gang would serve any purpose. For one they wouldn't be able to hold onto any power because the other gangs would have a major fighting advantage over them. A Geek Gang would just end turning into the gang that the other gangs pick on, kind of like what happens to the geek on his own. Also the geek also has the stereotypical image of nonviolent and peaceful mainly because they can't defend themselves. A Geek gang would be interesting though.

As I alluded to earlier who says a geek gang has to take a physical manifestation? Take the knights on the wired in SE: Lain. They were by the terms of a gang, such a group on the wired in that series. Much the same terror and fear is not a physical thing it is mental and any one is subject to it. If I could make you think, by fabrication of evidence, that I could pin a serial murder or rape case on you, would you not be scared to death? What difference is there in that and what say the Bloods or Crips do in a physical form?

Okay so the bank freezing example wasnt that great, but a geek gang would use information to gain and hold power over the typical gang, and Thug A has a bank account, who do you know that dosent have a bank account? (assume they have an income of some sort). Perhaps Thug A had his account frozen by Geek A, well Thug A dosent know that it was Geek A who froze it, so Geek A says he can unfreeze it, and it goes from there.. Even if Thug A knew that Geek A did it, why does Geek A have to go to Thug A in person? Geeks should be able to hide fairly well, cover their tracks and that sort, all electronically.. Thug A might never even see Geek A, but he is still his victim! See where I'm going here?
