The alternate to DDR. If you don't know what this is, go to www.pumpxtreme.net<br />Although it isn't the official site, it's got a good deal of information.I'm one of the few people who actually dances and breakdances on the pad. You don't see too many people doing that on DDR. If any of you are interested in seeing some videos, please PM me. They're quite hard to find online. If you can read Korean, go to www.sayyo.com to get the latest news and videos. And please, no biased, blind hatred towards DDR. It's kinda stupid to be doing that kind of stuff. The same goes for you pro-DDR guys.Who in here has heard of PIU? Ever seen anybody play it? How about actually dancing on it and looking good? It takes skill, I shit you not.

Sounds cool! I have absolutely no skill, but the whole flying thing actually gave me some coordination, enough to bust out DDR at a decent clip, not fast but i'm alright. It's a lot of fun, sometimes just to watch the people get crazy. I've never seen this one your talking about, but it sounds like a fun way to break your wrist, in style of course <!--emo&^_^--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='happy.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Pump it Up is a purely Korean attempt at the "DDR" ness.. While the Diagional arrows is strange since I've been playing DDR for a long time( up down left right) For starters it's very EYE CANDY! The visuals of the game really is on par to DDR, maybe better. (lots of animated girls) but the type of songs used (many of them korean songs, a couple of techno classics) Persaonlly, I would prefer DDR then PIU, only because the song selections are soo strange and it's mostly just korean stuff. DDR has all these titles I know of, and it's more "dancey" (XD I MADE AWORD!)

All valid points.I seriously think that the visuals used in PIU are better than DDR. For example, if you take a look at the ones used in Max 300 and compare it to another song (I forget which particular one), they both have the same metallic person doing Tai Chi or whatever it's doing. There are also the same metallic spheres with spikes all over, panning across still scenery to invoke a sense of movement, I could go on for quite a while. However, PIU offers a wide variety of visuals. I can't think of any 2 songs that have the same exact elements. Not one. Furthermore, many times the visuals are animated and move relatively smoothly. This indicates that some detail was taken in account for and people actually worked for this to happen. As for the music, it would make sense for PIU to have tons of KPop, KRap, etc in there. There's also tons of remixed classicals such as Canon-D and Dr. M.DDR music is also good, but the majority of it is dance/techno, and I'm not an avid listener of that genre. I do have a few favorites in DDR such as Starian (which is also in PIU), Candy by Kosaka Riyu, and others. But wait, this thread is about PIU. Whoops.I believe that PIU allows one to freestyle with more variety and ease due to its inherent nature. Diagonals that make contact when 2 pads are next to each other side by side makes for 4 steps total touching each other. This means that transitions from one pad to the other is relatively easier than only 2 steps that you see in DDR. Furthermore, because of the center step and the diagonals, you have more combinations and possibilities on steps. The body mechanics involved are complex, I'm sure, but just from playing it, it makes total sense to see how much easier have the PIU setup makes for dancing, or just stepping in general.
Bumping this thread, because I didn't want to create a new one.
So, doesn't anyone here play Pump? I do... or well, I used to (I still like it, but I don't play it as much as I used to), and I'll probably get my PIU Exceed for XB in a near future.
And if someone is interested:
www.pumpwarriors.com.mx <- It has Speed and Freestyle videos from the World Pump Festival. Damn, lots of those guys are crazy.

I play PIU mainly because my uncle owns a machine at his Kareoki music studio. If you think those guys are crazy.. you haven't seen anything yet since pumpwarrior's levels are about average in Korea standards. I thought I was good until I played in Korea 3 years ago. My cousins friends made fun of me for getting a B on crazy mode Turkey march and showed me off by getting a A on crazy mode Slam. x_x
I'm a lot better at ddr but piu is very fun and I consider it (exceed) a lot better.
In the Groove is better than both of them though.

The fact that people look awkward when playing DDR/ITG while hitting diagnol keys on PIU looks a bit more like dancing, I'd have to pick PIU over both. Freestyling on PIU actually looks like dancing while on DDR, just makes everything look like "C-walk"

Dude, I think you didnt' get it :P
The vids from PumpWarriors ARE from the WORLD TOURNEY of Pump it up at Korea. Koreans are still beasts in Speed (the guy that won this played DIGNITY in NIGHTMARE without using the bar), but Latinamericans are surely top tier in Freestyle now, leaded by Mexico and Brazil.
I bet to say that Latinamerica has, overall, surprassed Korea in lots of aspects. And why not? The machine is waaaaaay more popular around here.
I'd bet to say Latinamerica has imposed the standards ;P

Sorry to raise the dead but I wanted to share my video. It finally was up but was part of a huge file, 1 GB to be exact, and I had to edit it and whatnot. However, because I'm not so leet with video editing and converting, the file is about 30MB and is only under 2 minutes long. So yeah...

If you put it that way, I suppose you're right. I'm not really into freestyling so that's news to me.
Like you said, the machines are probably way more popular there than in Korea. I think it's mainly because the popularity level of PIU has been declining in Korea since 2003. I remember I was there during 2002 winter and I saw PIU machine almost everywhere I turned, even managed to find many outdoor machines in front of malls and such. However, majority who plays there are people who started when it was popular and not a lot of people are interested in "learning" to play.
The only freestyle I will always remember done is Korea is Hypnosis Double on 8x speed. Perfect rhythems, freestyling plus fast steps. MmmMmm.
