Rap Music
Well im just curious actually, i listen to rap and hip hop. but i understand that some people dont like that music cause of what the lyrics are about, but others like it.
for me as i said i listen to some rap music, but i can get to a point where songs about sex and drugs are just something i dont want to listen to.
so what does everyone else think? do you like rap music? do you not? why?

I listen to hip hop that tells about truth and the reality that goes on that we dont know is out there ... I dislike music about sex drugs or "gagnster rap" ... that is just completel garbage, in my opinion.
I dislike rap...why you ask...well im not really sure why X-D. Its just never caught my eye or in this case my ear =P. Id say alot of it that deals with drugs and sex IS garbage theres just no point in rapping about that kind of stuff when i big chunk of your fans are between the ages 7-11.
Rap... Is another form of musical art that encaptures the essence of the community it came from. You can take Jazz as an example.
Rap to me though is not very entertaining. I dislike vulgar words in my music, but some of it can be very good and very creatistic. I respect the people who give their creativity to display their "tude" of the generation.

I listen to the radio a lot these days and most of the times, there's a lot of rap. I would say that about 80-90 percent of it is about sex, money, night clubs, and sometimes drugs lol Sometimes i wonder why people write lyrics like that...maybe to make money lol  I dunno, but I do have to say that some songs have pretty good beats. The afterschool program that i use to go to had some really good rappers who were instructors. I miss those days, because I had a lot of fun back then. ^_^ lol

It has come to a point where rap is mostly about these negative subjects. However, I would only say 70% of the rap on radio today is negative. The only reason people think so lowly of rap is because the negative songs are on all of the time, overshadowing the positive ones. Radios don't play a big variety of songs. They only play the most requested and popular songs over and over again, thus giving the illusion that it's full of drugs, sex, money, hos, etc.
Like YAFam said, rap is one of the ways of expression from the culture it comes from, namely hip hop. Unfortunately, a lot of people who embrace the hip hop culture also grew up with a shady background. However, this is not to say that this is what hip hop is all about. In my humble opinion, the gangsta rap era was hip hop's downfall. All of the controversy, from the riots of LA to the East/West Coast beef, gave hip hop a tarnished image. Not too fair if you ask me.
Lastly, it's not fair for any of you to be judging music this critically without even doing some research on it beforehand. It would be equally ignorant of me to say, for example, that rock is the devil's music and is full of Satanic shit and lead to Emo and all people who listen to Emo slit their wrists while moping around all day long. Nor is it too fair for me to rag on electronic music, saying that it's full of the same loops that are made by extasy-popping raving freaks who have no job and too much free time on their hands, and try to make "DJing" their dayjob. It's too convinient and too ignorant. For those of you who think rap is full of negativity, please reconsider. If you are even the slightest interested in learning more, I can hook you up with what rap is all about.
Of course, if you're not even interested in learning and wish to continue being ignorant, fine. I hate your favorite music too, and it's full of stupid stuff that noone really cares about? (Even if that's not true)

I don't really listen to rap these days the people that are singing or "rapping" aren't any good. There aren't like the ones before, they just sing about complete crap sometimes and it is not from the heart it is just for the money. Much less for the video's it is so unreal and just.........I don't wanna say.
Sometimes I listen to Rap. The only singer I like to listen to Rap is Will Smith. I remember he said once on the TV that when you rap, you don't need to say bad words. I just love what he said. My favorite rap song "Just The Two of Us" by Will Smith.
Later on, Japan also has some Rap songs too. I like those hip hop songs in Bleach. It is so cool.

I am not a fan of Rap music, i don't don't like listening to them. I am a more slow moving type. Those slow music or peaceful music are my type.
Some of the Rap music i do like is Arigatou from bleach 2nd ending song. That song was really good. Very good meaning towards it.
I know Rap does show the reality of life, but it only show part of the reality. There are good part of life as well. For those who think of only the bad will think of only the bad, that is a bad problem. Think positive, the cup is half full. ^_^

Ahhhhhhh I love rap music, well not being "racist?" I think? I have both beastie boys album and also 3 enimem's album, I also like ill bill a lot too lol.
I'm not that big into gangster rap though all they can sing about is sex, money, drugs, guns, pimps, whores, and how much money they have. That's about it I think.
I do like a lot of rap remix and things like that though such as linkin park and jay-z and enmem's remix with aerosmith's "dream on"
Other than that I'm ok with rap music :)

You really can't judge an entire genre of music by just listening to a few songs. Like every other from of music rap has its good and bad sides. If you tried one flavor of ice-cream and didn't find it to your liking i'm sure you wouldn't say all ice-cream tasted bad then why do it with music?
Most people use rap to express what their feeling and some just rap about what sounds good or fun to them. You don't need to like all rap, just what you feel best works for you. Look at Eminem, his spilt personality style of rapping is a prefect example. You have Eminem who raps mostly about his problems, Slim Shady who's just nuts and all about fun or even Marshall Matters who was all about negativity to his mother. Most people might not like the negative lyrics but buy it anyway because it has a good beat to it.
The problem is most of the popular rappers nowadays, are just doing it for the money, they donâ??t care about the lyrics as long as it sounds good and they get paid, then theyâ??ll start rapping about how much money they make and their cars, shoes and ect.
And at the same time there are a lot for good rappers out there who might not be that well known so their stuff just gets overlooked.

I like some of Rap's artists.
Strange 50 years ago the rock isn't know to be the bad guys' music, it would be corrupt the young spirits of the American youth.
Well it likes to a circle every new "genre" of music born....

Hey, i think those ´bad´ Lyrics are a must for Raps and HipHop Tracks, because some Tracks are representing the Opinion of the Rapper or a Group, who wants to tell they´re feeling about a thing.

I agree with coolwar13 and all you other guys who said the same thing. The Rap and HipHop artists are just using their lyrics as a way to let other people know the kind of life they live and the kind of problems they've had and stuff like that. Although I may not listen to rap/hiphop music as much as others do, I actually like a lot of 'em. :D

The same can be said of any other genre. As long as you acknowledge this, that's cool.

bye bro!
