Being half-korean I may be a little bias <!--emo&:P--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo--> but just wondering what you think of manhwa in general? Do you see manhwa as a threat to the manga market? I've seen this question raised before, and I was reminded when I visited a local bookstore and noticed a huge influx of manhwa literally overnight. In most cases I've found that alot of people dislike it. and in all honesty I've been hard pressed to find a decent series. my alterior motive here is to see if there is any series worth checking out. <!--emo&--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='rolleyes.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I picked up <b>Sweet and Sensitive</b> by Park Eun-Ah on a whim. AKA it was half-off at a local comic store. I was a little wary since I'd only ever read clips of action-oriented manhwa and didn't enjoy it, but I was pleasently suprised. I'll be keeping up with that series.Haven't checked out any others, though, nothing has caught my eye.I don't see it as a huge threat to the manga market at the moment. (except in places where it seems to take over all the shelves ^^<!--emo&;)--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> The reason for so many licenses is probably because it's cheap and the popular thing to pick up. A benefit though that will help manwha, is that it reads like english books - as opposed to manga which is backwards to what most everyone is used to.

Only manwha I've read is Ragnarok. I like it, and would recommend it to anyone. Which is a lot coming from me, cos it's fantasy stuff and fantasy stuff really isn't my bag of kettles at all.

Manhwas are pushing mangas off the shelves here in Malaysia. I'm hard pressed to find a single decent manga on the racks at the normal convenience store / roadside comic stall / grocery store. The only mangas there are the ones like Doraemon, Detective Conan, Ranma (mandarin language) and H2. The whole racks are filled with manhwas instead. If I wanted good titles like Ranma 1/2 (non-chinese version), Rave, or Get Backers, I'll have to make a one hour trip to a manga specialty store in the city.I've never read manhwas but I most probably won't in the near future. And I'm used to reading mangas Japanese style (right to left). I totally got lost reading a Superman comic in a bookstore. I was like wondering which panel should I read.

Hip Hop is not bad. Aside of that I didn't find anything else that interests me.

I've only read two of them: Chonchu and Priest and i must admit that they kick ass <!--emo&:D--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->I think that manwhas are great and mangas too. In fact they are two different things and here in Belgium, manwha isn't really a threat for manga but in the other hand there are more and more of them in our bookshop ^^

I've read the ragnarok manwah and it's pretty cool to me... so different from the ragnarok animation... the characters are drawn well. especially fenris [the new look].

Same for me ... the only manhwa that i've really encountered is ragnarok. wait actually i think there is some manga called girls saurus (?) that i think was manhwa. anyway in general i like the drawing style of manga better than manhwa, but ragnarok looks amazing =) it's quite possible it could become a large competitor with manga though, imo.

I don't think there's a term for Chinese comics. It's just Chinese comics regardless of whether it is from Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, etc unlike manga or manhwas.
