Attempted Kimono girls ^^;

I know, I know, I can't draw modern kimono's for hell, but I tried ^^;; Anyway, 'tis a picsy of me and my darling goddesswife, Kari. The first one is the actual sketch and the second of the shaded one (am actually working on colouring it via PS, but I suck at that, so it's taking me a while <<;; ) I always laugh when I see the before-and-after ^^;; Sketch (before)Shaded (After)Anyway, the problem with this is I dunno what background to make... am rather tired of continuously drawing the dotted bubble ones (that soft feeling you're getting), and have no idea what to do... I was thinking of incorperating stars or something of the likes, because of the Star card I keep getting in my readings ^^;; Anyone have any other ideas?
The bodies are little stiff, but great shading and I like the floral patterns, nice job^^not sure about the background, but maybe a serene scene to reflect the mood.

...There's no such thing as a modern kimono, AFAIK.That's a qi pao (Mandarin), a *Chinese* dress.Don't know about BG either, but the head proportions are a bit strange.The neck is huge, the cheeks are out of proportion, and the head is oversized.
I don't know much about backgrounds, I suck at them. ^^" But here's what I think. Not sure if you are looking for constructive criticism, but here's my two cents. Their necks look too long, like ScarletWillow said, it's a madarin shirt. And in a mandarin shirt, the neck part length covers 1/2 to 3/4 of the wearer's neck, at least the ones I wore in the past. In your drawing, the neck part of the shirt is below the place where it should be, causing the two girls' necks to appear long. I have no problem with the width of the girls' necks though.From where I can see, the girl on the left, her hand partially shown at the bottom looks too small for her wrist. And their shoulders look stiff making their whole body look stiff. Other than that, your drawings looks good. The flower patterns are beautiful. Great shading!
I was absolutely terrified when I saw people replied (I know, am pathetic. -- ) But thankies! I was wondering what made them look so stiff, but I couldn't figure it out - I shalt fix it and repost with the final one. Thankies for the input ^^
Stiffness in a drawing comes in the same places as a normal human loltensness in the shoulders and the joints and stuff makes a drawing look stiff. also, the way line is used can make something look stiff. loose flowing lines will make something look looser than something with stiff rigid lines.hard to explain, easier to show lol.and like said, neck length is a lo weird. proportions in general are a ll a lil off, but that takes a LOT of time to learn. so i give you a lot of credit for doing pretty damn well <img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />i'd like to see it colored...but thats cause i'm a pain in the ass >.>
Heh, merci, Mlle. Kalico ^^;; Am not as good as M. Evol without the art classes, but I try. ^^;; Am actually working on a coloured version of it, but the thing is... I never coloured on PS.. am trying, though, so hopefully once I redo this (welp, fix it a bit), rescan, I shalt colour it. I hope I do it right though. ^^;

I thought they were supposed to wear kimono?wait. . . im a tad confused:if "kimono" is the jap word for clothing, then how come "kimono" has been symbolized by the robe-like dress?
I couldn't think of the name of the clothes (hence "attempted") to which I was told they were actually wearing Mandarin dresses/shirts.. >>;;; But in technicallity, yes, they are wearing "kimonos" (otherwise they'd have been naked ^^; )
