This was an assignment for my English class when we were learning about the Beat Generation writers. We read "Howl" by what's-his-face and was supposed to write our own version of "Howl" talking about our generation. And here's mine. It has really, really long verses. Critiques and comments are welcomed.
Lost Individuals
I saw the best minds of my generation engulfed in the poisons of youth as they question their existence while floating on the unerring space of uncertainty,
who once happily laid on Cloud 9 with the angels and harps floating along clouds of innocence until a strike of thunder brought them tumbling down into the real world,
who sat alone in the miserable darkness and dreamt of colorful rainbows, blue skies, and ice-cream during one of their most pleasture moments, which brought about pain once the feeling dissipated,
who fished for hopes and dreams in deep-blue rivers and lakes far too wide and deep along the shores of life, but only caught stinky boots and tattered trash,
who walked on wires along the hallways of high school feeling bare and faceless, receiving disconent and glaring eyes from strangers whose faces hide behind masks of deceit,
who ripped their hearts out with invisible knifes and daggers for a pint of understanding and kindness, yet gained nothing but a bloody, torn heart grasping for life as it laid on the ground,
who looked into a thousand mirrors searching for their identity but saw nothing but a withering carcass of tears, alcohol, and drugs,
who suffered a decade over a loss of a beloved friend on that fateful, so-called exciting night when assumptions won over common sense,
who allowed their minds to be but brain and tissue as they are devoured by others' way of thinking instead of their own,
who stood upon towers and mountains in the realm between life and death, ready to take a soothing, flightless fall into eternity.

I think whats-his-face was allen ginsberg lol.
I like the strong imagery in your poem. each verse seems to pack a punch of cynicism that hits close to home for alot of people. nice piece^^
