Well ..
Even though the widescreen fit well your concept, i still think the left part is a bit empty ...
Also, your mars stock you blend in the background looks too transparent ...
I think a space background well blended with planet Mars behind Rei will be great
But it is just my opinion ...
If you want to follow this idea : a "making a starfield" tutorial is there : Here
If you really want to make that abstract concept :
I'll suggest : some bruhes in the left part ... vector brushes for exemple ... , then make your planet a bit less transparent
PS : i noticed some limit of your fire brush :

I got an idea. wut if you put stars in the left side^^

I like the design of this one. Only thing I see is Mars and Luna don't seem attached to the background. Maybe some kind of shadow might work. I haven't gotten my GIMP to work yet, so, I don't really know to much about what any software can do but I do have a good eye. And to make this wall complete would be to make mars and luna connect to the background. Also, a little more flames couldn't hurt. It is Mar's here.. and she's more then just has a firey temper.

Despite the somewhat empty background, I think this one is great. I'm definitely hoping to see more of this one.

Well i'm, noob in this, but i understand something about the colors.. For me, it's much better the second image; because the dark it's good to background; but one thing. I think the image around the planet (i think it's mars) it's too strong,.. make it soft.. well i think .. but .. everything else it's really ok .. ^^

I think most people have gone over what needs to be done with your wallpaper, and I feel your second revision is good, so I'll just point out what thing that's been bugging me: on your text, the one that says "mars fire shining bright" and "animepaper.net", could you take away the inner shadow? It makes your it a little hard to read and I think white is fine, especially with the font you are using.
