Is Pokemon really Anime

Technically anything animated is anime... :ninja: I dunno. It's like saying lined paper isn't really paper just because you don't like paper with lines.
<!--QuoteBegin--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Pokemon is anime and anime is a cartoon.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Actually cartoon is vary from anime. Cartoon is like for young people but anime is different. Anime is for all ages and cartoon don't have those adult scene but anime does(hentai/ecchi). So, I think cartoon is not equal to anime.
Regard to the topic, Pokemon is actually an anime not a cartoon

A friend of mine says any anime rated TVPG or under 13 can be a saturday morning catoon.
And what if SpongeBob SquarePants was rated ® would it be anime?

Spongebob Squarepants is counted as an animation but NOT an anime, it's not from Japan firstly. Anime targetted at children can be called cartoons but here's what I always say...
"The elite call it anime, the others call it cartoon"
Go think about it  It's easy to determine as long as the drawing of the animations are a difference between Japan and America - or any other country for that matter. Korea, however, I don't know if their art can be considered anime. They've got lots of good art drawn anime-style but I haven't seen a series purely Korean drawn with Korean artistes doing the OP/ED.

I don't know if this is acyually correct. Someone can fee free to correct me if I'm wrong. I've been under the impression that "cartoons" are made in North America. I know that "anime" originally comes from Japan. Am I right?
Duh... I heard that in Japan, all animated series (japanese or from the US, whatever...) are called "anime"... duh... :bounce:

All animated series are called anime but there is a distinction. It's up to the individual to decide though. I personally feel that american series are still considered cartoons as they have called it that way for a long time and the japanese call their animations anime. Like X-men, a great series but it's still considered as cartoon cause americans call their animations cartoons. The japanese call their animation anime. That's what I think though :bounce:

Pokemon's anime alright...its just that the franchise has been milked out to a point where more mature audience has had enough of it. also, while most anime series follow a different storyline in each episode, its basically the same plot in pokemon; you present a problem, ash and his gang tries to fix it, team rocket comes, pikachu blows them away with thunder. (needless to say, i saw some episodes because the game was good) the repetitiveness can only last so long before the boundary between anime and cartoon becomes nonexistant.

If its of asian origin, its anime, if its not, its a cartoon. i stand by that, its alot more simple that way.
Anything that's a cartoon is an anime, since that's the term for anything animated in Japan.
It's been said, but that's how it really is. Also, I don't really see much of a difference between American cartoons and anime and those artsy European stuff. They're all animated.. No matter what storyline, same thing.. ^^

What...? i never thought any cartoon = anime. in fact, i thought the word "anime" first started as "japanimation" ... so japanese cartoons would = anime. and i don't know why people wouldn't consider pokemon an anime just because it might be dumb or for children; there are a lot of anime like that, except they weren't as explosive in america as pokemon was. and maybe there are no pokemon wallpapers because there are either no suitable images or no one really wants to have or make a pokemon wall '_'
don't get me wrong, i'm not defending pokemon as an anime because i like it, but i still think it's an anime ...

Right here and now, I'm going to stand up and defend the Pokémon series! I enjoyed watching it; it was fun, entertaining, dare I say even <i>witty</i> at parts, and I have to own up to chuckling at it on numerous occasions.
When I start walling again after my final unendorsed exam (not long now), don't be surprised if you see a Pokémon wall from me.
...mostly just to see if I can get away with it and maintain any semblance of credibility...
[edit]The films were an embarassment, though.

Pokemon is indeed an Anime in the sense that it's animated but to decide whether or not it's a cartoon is purely culture based. If you were raised in the states, it would consider it a cartoon because that's what you're used to. If you are one of the many like us or live in Japan, you will most likely call it Anime.
Sometimes I feel hatred to those who will blantely call masterpieces like Kiddy Grade or Cowboy Bebop simply 'cartoons' but then I just have that knowledge that they will never be able to think outside the box so I just let it go.
I think I'll have to side with Josh on this one in that I also enjoyed the series as a whole. Take away all the marketing and the games and the raped goat-ass they did on the series and look at it as just the episodes. It wasn't all that bad, more geared towards little children, but presented alot of strong messages to youngsters about doing things right and standing up for yourself and never giving up.
Sure, other series do this so but the message was just simplified for the younger viewers and come on, we all know that everyone has freely, at one point in time, watched it out of their own free will cause you know what, I think it's funny.
Those are my two cents
