For me, i guess as many others, appearance, girls super long hair, any color for the hair will do, short hair ones just dont seem as appealing and pretty. next big eyes of course lol, which makes every anime character look cute/koo for both guys and girls, as for personalties, i like it for the girls to be cheerful/happy and sometimes aggressive, which makes it quite comical lol.
