I, like kowweihao, am open about myself being a lolicon, I share it with all my friends, none of them are ones themselves, but they don't seem to mind me being one, it doesn't affect their judgment. But like that, I keep my interest in the fantasy world. I don't go about doing something...as unexplainable as stalking little girls O_o... In fact, I look at them with utter disgust. Well, I guess the correct answer is "It depends". Just because your a big fan of cute characters doesn't make you a pedophile. My wife loved Manabi Straight, and I don't care what age they say those characters are, they're drawn to look young. That obviously doesn't make my wife a pedophile.

Nor does liking two-dimensional representations of characters necessarily translate over into liking what real life entity they are representing, or visa versa. I'm sure you're all well aware that there are a bunch of fans here who are head over heels in love with this or that anime character, whilst another group of fans stands around in bewilderment over how someone could be in love with a drawing. Well, it cuts both ways, people!

Finally, being a pedophile doesn't make one a child-molesting criminal. People with this sort of unfortunate outlook should be pitied. What if the person you loved was doomed to be perpetually out of reach? Just because they desire a relationship they are forbidden to have doesn't mean they aren't people. It's only when they are willing to take that desire to the point of hurting another person that they should be judged as an anathema and (in my opinion) executed.

I think it's pretty hard to deny that there is a large amount of manga & anime drawn with a pedophilic bent, but really, what's wrong with that? It's just art, which is just people expressing themselves, which we all have a right to. If it keeps 'em off the street and away from our children, then so much the better then. Push them into a corner and it's all the more likely they'll attack a child.

In conclusion, as one of the above posters stated, the vast majority of Anime characters are underage from a Western perspective, and engaged in sexual activity. Seeking out sexual contact with girls this age in real life would land you in a state prison in the United States, but that doesn't stop the vast majority of us I'm sure from fantasizing about them. Why? Because it's harmless fantasy. Try to keep that in perspective.
