Homework group

Alright so i was in my thinking space i thought of something that sounded like a good idea. i kinda see that quite a few people here still go to school which means that you probably have plenty of homework to do. If your enrolled in classes like mine you may have questions that you would like answered and can't find it in the book, or you have to write a paper and can't think of any ideas to write about, or you need some one to quizz you on some questions fo an upcoming test. So my question to all you out there is if there was a Homework group out there would you join? Or do you even think of it as a good idea maybe keep school matters off of here because this is were you come to relax?
well tell me what you think. thanks

Well, IMO a study group would be a good idea, though not everyone would be able to use it. For instance, I'm studying computer science (not sure if that's the actual name for it in english) and most of the things I have to do are best done using some chalk and a blackboard ^.^ But, there'd also be people in Psychology, Literature, Arts, Philosophy, and the likes that would do best asking for other peoples' input on the many papers they have to write. And well, that's just for college ppl, because I'm sure there are younger ones that would benefit from having older, more experienced ones helping them out. All in all I think this is something beneficial for our AP community.
Yup..^_^, for me is advantages is more than disadvantages, i had done this before..it really useful, can help each other who really dunno about it..but, sure you ask the rite person to join you the homework group or exam group..must co-operating well, and the disadvantages is sometimes will argue about the homework..saying tat not like tat answer and didnt got confidence to other members...

Well...i think a homework group does not have much positive impact on my studies...
i think it just depends on what kind of person you are, some people like to discuss together before doing..
however, for me, i just think that discussing about the homework is just too time-consuming and unuseful for me...i cannot concentrate with so many classmates doing the homework together.
Sometimes when we were doing homework in a group, discussing on the homework, we quickly gone off the original topic, moving to issues that are completely unrelated to the homework...and it is just a waste of time
however, i want to classify that there are really subjects that really need to work in a group, and do some discussion, and discussion can have a positive impact on these studies, for example, english literature, etc. Discussing on these subjects can enable us to think in different perspectives, and as more classmates are discussing, we can get more brilliant ideas and can understand the subject more~
therefore, homework group really depends on what kind of people you are, and what subject you are discussing about~ just my personal opinion...XD

I guess I'm different from you guys ^_^ I usually hate studying in groups for a lot of reasons that I've observed over the years. Heck, for me, any group work sucks.
I suck terribly at math, which is a course I'm taking right now in university, and it's such a pain to cover a chapter or even sometimes two everyday. We have 2 midterms in this course which makes it worse. I just hire a private tutor and go to him whenever I have trouble. If I can find my prof, I usually go in to see her for about 30 minutes, which usually resolves my problems. That's what I do for math, and I'm getting by quite well so far.
The reason I hate group work is to me, it never works. Whenever I try to get something done in the group, I get interrupted in a variety of ways from other people. If I'm reading, I can't concentrate when every one else in my group is talking. If I'm writing something and they talk to me, and then go back to continue writing the sentence, I usually forget how the rest of the sentence goes. Larger groups are more difficult to coordinate. In 90% of the groups I've worked in, I was the one always taking the initiative because everyone else was too lazy to do any work. If the group work was a project, I try to take the whole project for myself and finish it on my own. After that everyone would be impressed and say "we're done" and it's all over with. Then I'd split the score evenly among the group as if they had all helped make the project evenly.
I'll give you one example, last week I was put in a group of 6 other people and we were given a topic in class and we had to write a summary about it and use APA citations. 30 minutes passed, no one wrote anything, so I started writing one paragraph and I told another girl to write the other and then we'd put together a summary. Another 30 minutes passed and I was done the first paragraph with about 120 words. The other girl, at this point only had 30 words down. All her citations were wrong and she only had a few sentences. I told her to keep writing, while I wrote for the summary. In the end, we barely wrote the minimum number of words required. We got the paper back today, and we scored a 3.5/5, a B-.
I've got plenty of other examples but the thing is, group work never fits with me. It's always been like that since middle school, and so far, I'm yet to be in a group that we could all work together properly. Exams I always do by myself, unless I need help then I'd go for the private tutor.

Theyre kindof alright i guess
i dont usually do study groups much, just the occasional, before test study, since they tend to get out of hand. Especially when you're with your friends, one subject could lead to another, to another without even noticing until it's total chaos. But of course, with study groups you always get things done, you can split the work and get it done two or even three times as fast as it would alone.

Well I think it would depend on how you learn best. I think this is mostly a personal choice. I think if you are in a group of people who are fairly skilled and balanced it would work out well, but if in a group one student who normally performs better, will usually find that a study group slows down their progress. In situations like these, its only beneficial if everyone equally contributes and benefits from the situation. If you find you mooch a lot off of others, you should consider getting a tutor instead or perhaps seeing your teacher for after school assistance.
Thanks for all your input guys. I know that with some subjects and some people study groups don't work but for others it does. I guess I might have been usuing this thread for a poll in a sorts to see if there would be enough people that would use the group or not.
A few of you brought up some good points i didn't think of that with group study it can tend to get off subject real quick with out some one there to make sure people stay on task, which I guess would mean either I would have to be on alot to make sure people don't start spamming on the thread or flaming others for not knowing an answer or accidentally giving the wrong answer, or i would have to find several very competent people to be admins and mods with me that can spend the time on here that i can't.
well keep the good feed back coming I'm still listening. thanks =)

I choose to do my homework in group...because you can get many advantages from it besides the answer.....( []-[])

If I ever do homework I gotta do it myself. My trail of toughts and way of thinking prevents me from cooperating good with others. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, but that only applies to myself, so if even if I work with others, I end up doing everything myself.
