What is a good lie?
Or maybe you should just avoid making it obvious that you're gonna throw a surprise party! XD Lol but I dunno what's the relation of that to all this XD
Ahhh I can't answer that. I think it depends on the secret. Hmm well we were taught before that when the matter should be known by the person then you should tell him or her but if it has nothing to do with them then you shouldn't tell them. Or when you know something bad about someone, you should confront that person but if they don't do anything, that's when you talk to another person but it is just to seek a solution and not to expose that person's bad traits. So I think that if it was the case stated by thewarangel then it's okay not to tell them if they're terrorists or people who'll do bad things once they know about that.

minakomelWeren't good lies called "white lies"?
I think they help sometimes, I mean; truth can sometimes destroy more than a lie. But there is a difference between being honest and making white lies sometimes and of course, cheating and lying.
would you be able to tell your grandma that her cake tasted like feet when she took all morning to bake it just for you?
think about grandmaemoticon
True, like being "polite." Even though in truth you think the person you just met is wearing the most hideous dress ever, you have to be "polite" meaning lying that you think the dress is beautiful. Parents teach their kids about being polite to manners. Meaning, lie so you don't make the other person feel bad. I'm a type of person who can't tell the truth to people that I barely know about something because i don't want to sound rude. If it's someone I know very well, then I'll probably honestly say what I really think about something if they ask for my opinion. In a way I think there are such a thing as "good/white lies." Like parents always lie to you about something because they don't want to worry you.

If you lie when you know who your lying to knows your lying is it really lying?
Liars!
"I cannot lie", "lie is bad", "lies are dishonest" are all lies themselves.
A good lie eases your life, makes someone else smile, or even can save a life. The best lie is that is believed.

A lie that you don't get caught in =D
We all have lied in our lives, once, twice, all the time? Whether lies are good or not, it depends on the circumstances... I guess... well, we all know that mostly they don't offer anything good, besides pain, disappointment and who knows what other terrible consequences, But, not only that, lies can sometimes save us from the worst. We have different reasons for lying, right? Children don't understand what is right and wrong, even if they lie, they won't have a plan b on mind. When it comes to Adults, either you lie all the time to your asset or you tell the truth and are able to sleep well at night ^^.
I personally hate lies at all costs, it's much better to know the cold absolute truth, rather than finding out a kind lie. You will still get disappointed and sad eventually, because the truth always shows itself, whether now or in 20 years. It's okay if you lie once or twice about something small, but if it's something big, will you be able to trust that person again? If you keep on lying day after day, eventually you will be unable to stop lying, and nobody will trust you.
If you truly have to lie for some reason, it better be about something of great importance - the result justifies the deed -, because you will need a good explanation eventually. Even though, lies are needed sometimes, aren't they?

Most people agree that for saving a life lying is okay, and sometimes it is necessary. There are many different opinions on other situations, such as if the truth would hurt someone's feeling or insult them. Normally, I lie to avoid something bad that will hurt someone or make other people in trouble. ^^
I'd say a lie with which you can protect other people because these are the only lie's which are conceptional! It hate lying u.u

Sometimes I make good lie for double reason... like protecting myself plus prevent relationship-break... but sometimes I lie to keep their feel... but I lie for some egoist reason too... sigh...
What about a lie of omission? If someone asks 'How was your day?' you usually say 'Good'. You could actually had a bit of a crap day and you're feeling tired, you say good so you can get on with your life. That is a lie, but who isn't guilty of that one.
Besides don't we lie to ourselves everyday by feigning ignorance. We see people dying on the news, you see a homeless person. We say we care about people but we just avoid the icky situations.
Everybody lies (oh House, you philosopher you).

Well, I don't think it's a lie if the other person doesn't need to know about that (ex. if he's being sarcastic or trying to annoy you). lol XD But if there really was something wrong with you and it was your mom asking you because she wanted to help then maybe you need to tell her right? Since she needs to know that or she won't be able to help.
But I kinda think it's still a lie.. haa you confuse me lol XD

A good lie would be one done with good intententions.
Ever hear the saying "Good intentions paved the road to hell."?
I personally think that people cry out against lies out of some belief that the truth is by it's very nature rightious in some way. Information is a game, the more you have, the more power you have over the subject it pertains to, power to manipulate, destoy, or in some cases even create. Are we to trust such information to unsavoury people, people who would use that information for destructive purposes, simply because it is the truth and therefore must be shared. In an somewhat extreme case let us say you have a friend who has had some emotionally scarring experiences. You know because this information was given to you in trust that you would not abuse it. Someone asks you about this friend's past, why she acts in the ways that apply to these emotional scars. In the wrong hands this information will not be used to heal, but to destroy your friend mentally for whatever their purposes are, let's say they have a grudge and are just vindictive. Should this powerful truth be shared simply because it allows you to feel rightious for having shared it. Similarly, is a man sinful for lying about himself in an attempt to lessen the power others hold over him? A lie can heal just as easily as the truth can destoy, neither is inherantly good or evil, both hold enormous power for either purpose. Suppose a soldier is captured, tortured for information on the whereabouts of his unit, he lies and sends them on a wild goose chase that buys his unit the additional two weeks needed to accomplish their goal. Would that man not die a hero to his country, or would you condemn him for lying with his last breath? I sincerely hope we are all smarter than that.
