Is anime a lonely hobby?
You're a lonely anime
Yeah it is, a pretty lonely hobby, at least if you live in another country than Japan or in another country near Asia. I live in Europe so the fans of anime are pretty limited, I have found only a few, most of the fans I have found are through online and in such similar sites like animepaper. Almost all of my friends dislike anime, or don't pay attention to it, so when I do meet a friend with the same interest as me, we can talk about hours about our top games and anime videos, and it's great. It's good to know that there are people out there with the same interest, only a bit harder to find.

I've got one friend but he WILL NOT WATCH ANIME IN THE MORNING. How can you love anime and only choose to watch it at night? If you love anime, you'll watch it whenever you can, right?
There's another guy at work that loves anime as much as I do, but he just got married at 20, so there's no way we're going to hang out and watch anime. Although, if only I had a girlfriend that loved anime.......

I remember way back in elementary school when I used to have a friend that was obsessed with DBZ. He brought one of those character-books to school one day, and he was showing it to me. It was only through showing me that he realized I watched it too.
I think it's highly likely that a lot of people watch anime but don't talk about it. I know I've had a couple of friends who I've known for months before finding out that they're into anime/manga. But once you find out who's into what, it's easier to find more of them.
So for me, I don't think it's much of a lonely hobby. ^__^

by the way, hi!
I'd have to say no, I'm into Anime since the dawn of the 20th era and look at me I have a work, a social life, a GF and many hobbies. That includes anime in it. It is on the individual itself his/her character and the attitude towards the hobby. |

I think it can be sometimes, especially when you're up at midnight reading manga online because it isn't out in english yet. I have friends who have been to Anime Conventions and we talk about manga and what we think about certain animes so if you let it be a lonely hobby then it will be. Although I have to admit sometimes I do feel a little strange talking about it to people who don't understand it or think it's all just big guns and hot girls(slaps Mushishi down into their laps) All you really need is a few friends who understand it more than just what most Americans see it as, I'm not a Star Wars nerd(not that I don't like Star Wars) I don't spend all day on the computer and I definitely get up before 8 on most days. Remember any hobby can seem lonely, you want lonely, try knitting.

For me, I like to keep my anime hobby to myself so I guess it is lonely for me in a way but I prefer it that way. I'm not ashamed of it, but I just don't really like talking about anime with other people. Sometimes I get offended really easily if my friend has a different opinion - it happened with Code Geass. Afterwards, I got really mad. When I think about it now, it was kind of silly... but I take anime kind of seriously.
It's not terribly lonely for me...a few of my friends are fans, so it's not too bad. Although I also think I know what you mean, because it wasn't always that way.
I would say yea because no really likes to watch it but there are tons of people who enjoy anime
Whether or not anime is a lonely hobby depends on you. You can find other people who already share the same interest, or share your interest with others, look for clubs, or start your own.
There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. To be alone is a physical choice... to be lonely is a mental choice. Though it can sometimes be difficult to believe, both are in your control.
Just reach out, be active, and don't get convinced that it's one way or another. Like life, it's ultimately what you make of it.

Anime a lonely hobby? I think it hurt my feelings as an anime fan. Well i have friends that likes anime...So i think it is not a lonely hobby except if you collect stamps everyday as your hobby THAT would be a lonely hobby. lol.

Actually, yes. I'd agree with the half that says it is. I have friends, but I don't talk to them about anime...because, well lets face it, anime isn't exactly the most coolest thing to society (atleast where I'm from anyway). So yes, anime is kind of lonely. But luckily, there is internet, and there are millions of other people out there who like anime ^^
